Science & Sikhism

Sikh teachings do not disagree with science, as it does not conflict with Sikh Scriptures or
beliefs. In fact scientists are just now discovering the concepts that were written in Sikh
scriptures centuries ago. Sikh Gurus told Sikhs not to smoke, do drugs or drink alcohol
centuries ago. Scientists confirm that drinking alcohol, smoking and consuming drugs have
harmful effects on the body.
Sikh beliefs have not been disproved by science in any form. Scientific facts support the
teachings of Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Guru Granth Sahib Ji states, "here are planets, solar
systems and gala!ies. If one speaks of them, there is no limit, no end. here are worlds upon
worlds of "is creation. #s "e commands, so they e!ist. "e watches over all, and
contemplating the creation, "e rejoices. $anak says, it is really hard to describe" %Guru Granth
Sahib Ji, &'. In addition, it is stated that God created the entire (niverse including the )arth.
"*ou *ourself created the )arth and the two lamps+ the Sun and the ,oon" %Guru Granth
Sahib Ji, &-'. .urthermore, "here are billions of regions and planets. here are billions of
moons, suns and stars" %Guru Granth Sahib Ji, /01'.
2larification+ he reference to Sun and the ,oon as lamp is figurative not literal. 3oth give us
light, Sun during the day and ,oon during the night. 3ut in no way Guru Granth Sahib Ji is
saying that ,oon makes or generates its own light.

Granth Sahib Ji, 1&6'. ",any millions are the fields of creation and gala!ies. ,any millions are
the skies and solar systems. ,any millions are divine incarnations. "e has unfolded "imself in
so many ways. "e has e!panded "is e!pansion of creation many times. .orever and ever, "e
is the 7ne, the 7ne (niversal 2reator. ,any millions are created in various forms. .rom God
they emanate, and into God they merge once again. "is limits are not known to anyone. 7

.urthermore, ""e established the )arth, the sky and the air, the water of the oceans, fire and
food. "e created the ,oon, the stars and the Sun, night and day and mountains4 "e blessed
the trees with flowers and fruits. "e created the demigods, human beings and the seven
oceans4 "e established the three worlds %life in water, on land and in the air'" %Guru Granth
Sahib Ji, 9-::'. God created the gases and everything came from God;s creation. .or
e!ample, water %"/7' came from the gases. 5hen two hydrogen atoms and one o!ygen atom
combine, they form water. <ife in the ocean, on land and in the air is based on water. 5ithin all
life, "e has infused "is <ight, the soul, which is a part of God. God created the entire (niverse
including the )arth and life on the )arth.
Sikhism states that God created this (niverse billions of years ago. he (niverse including the
)arth has been evolving since. .urthermore, this is not the first time God created this
(niverse, "e has done so many times. he life not only e!its on )arth alone but many other
planets.
Scientists have found that there are billions of gala!ies, each gala!y containing billions of
starts and millions of planets revolving around those stars with millions of moons revolving
around those planets. 7ur gala!y, the ,ilky 5ay, has appro!imately /66 billions stars and
millions of planets from which few are known. here are billions of gala!ies like ours in the
universe and this is just now being reali=ed by modern science, where as Sikh Scripture
mentioned it long before its discovery.
Scientists are slowly attempting to unravel the creation of God but the whole creation is so
vast that currently it is beyond what humans can e!plore. Scientists study the creation of God
and try to comprehend the mysteries of "is creation. he more they learn, the more they are
ama=ed. Some spend their entire life studying God;s creation and yet they are unable to find
"is limits. "owever, when one meditates on God, God "imself unfolds the mysteries and
reveals the gala!ies, the stars, and all of "is creation.
