Lesson 12


Murakkab Naaqis - phrase

We have learnt that

is of two types:
1.

-Murakkab Taam- complete (sentence).


2.

-Murakkab Naaqis- incomplete (phrase).


In this lesson we are going to learn

.
- phrase is a combination of from which no
information is understood. It is an incomplete statement, e.g.
a good man; a mans book.

- phrase is of several types. To understand Quran we
just need to learn four s and they are:


possessive phrase

(descriptive phrase)
The descriptive phrase is a combination of two nouns wherein
the second noun describes the first. In such cases the second
noun will be an adjective. e.g. (

) a pious man.
The first part of is called (Mawsoof) while the
second part is called the (Sifat). In the above example, the
word (

) is and the word (

) is .
will be in full agreement with in terms of:

: definite () and indefinite ().


If the is a definite noun then the will also be definite.
Similarly if the is an indefinite noun then the will also
be indefinite.

: masculine and feminine.


If the is masculine then the will also be masculine and
vice versa.
: singular, dual and plural.
If the is singular then the will also be singular. Similarly
is the case for dual and plural.

If the is in , or case, the will also be in the ,
or case respectively.

In construction if the is plural non-human

- noun then the will be singular feminine but plural


feminine can also come.
When you want to make from English to Arabic, first
find out whether the construction is definite () or
indefinite ().
If the phrase starts with a, an, few or some the phrase is
.
a pious man is indefinite () construction.
an ugly man is indefinite () construction.
some pious men is indefinite () construction.
few tall men is indefinite () construction.

If the phrase starts with the the phrase is .
the pious man is definite () construction.
the ugly man is definite () construction.
the tall men is definite () construction.
In English the ( ) comes first and then () e.g. a pious man.
To make a pious man in Arabic follow the steps
below;
1. Remove the a or the.
2. Start from the right, write down the Arabic nouns like this;

case of the Ism).
