GUIDE CARD

Plants reproduce their own kind as animals do. Lets find out
how do plants reproduce? Around ninety percent of plants produce
flowers which contains parts that enable them to reproduce. Flowers
are the reproductive structures of these plants.

Reproduction is the process by which animals and plants produce young
ones of their own kind.

Plants are living things. Like animals, they reproduce their own kind.

You will understand how a plant reproduce if you know the parts of a
flower.

A flower has a reproductive system that enables the plant to reproduce
its own kind.

The reproductive parts of a flower are the stamen and pistil.

Flowers that have stamens but lack of pistil are called staminate flowers.

Flowers that have pistils but lack of stamens are known as pistillate
flowers.

Flowers that have both stamens and pistils are called perfect flowers or
complete flowers.

Flowers that lack one of the reproductive parts are called imperfect
flowers or incomplete flowers.

Here are the Parts of a Flower
1. Pistil is the female reproductive organ of a flower. It consists of the stigma, style,
ovule and ovary.
a. Stigma it has a sticky surface.
b. Style it is the long narrow tube like part that supports the stigma.
c. Ovule - becomes the seed w/c is found inside the ovary.
d. Ovary it holds the ovule w/c becomes the fruit.

2. Stamen is the male reproductive organ of a flower. It consists of the anther, pollen
grains and filament.
a. Anther supports the pollen grains.
b. Filament supports the anther.
c. Pollen grains is found inside the anther and they are powdery materials.

3. Petal the most attractive part of a flower. When all the petals are put together they
make up corolla.

4. Sepal is the green leaf like structures at the base of the flower. It protects the
flower while it is still bud. All the sepals taken together form the Calyx.

5. Receptacle forms the base which supports the flower.
