The stator winding is one of the most stressed parts during generator operation. Conventional generator protection systems are not designed to detect insulation problems at an early stage. ALSPA(r) Care Partial Discharge allows the early detection of problems within the generator winding system and along the bus bar.

Conventional generator protection systems are not designed to detect insulation problems at an early stage. But insulation aging is a self-reinforcing process that, if unchecked, can result in expensive unplanned outages. Leveraging decades of experience in generator monitoring & diagnostics, Alstoms ALSPA Care Partial Discharge addresses this problem by allowing the early detection of problems within the stator winding system and along the bus bar long before a failure appears. MONITOR THE ENTIRE WINDING ALSPA Care Partial Discharge monitors the entire stator winding. Furthermore, it offers an approach that allows a differentiated analysis of the partial discharge (PD). APPLICATION
All types of medium and large generators
Compliant with IEC 60270 / 60034-27-2 SCOPE Hardware and software module for ALSPA Care system REQUIRES
Alstom high capacitance PD sensors (or compatible)
ALSPA Care Box
Optionally ALSPA Care Centre server for long term data storage SUPERIOR FEATURES FOR MORE RELIABLE DIAGNOSTICS With sensors installed on the three phases and the neutral point, the ALSPA Care Partial Discharge system acquires the PD signal originating from pulse current sources no matter where they occur in the winding. ALSPA Care Partial Discharge is a function of the ALSPA Care Generator solutions for condition monitoring. By monitoring partial discharges in the generator, problems related to insulation aging in the stator winding system can be identifed at an early stage to allow cost-effective mitigation. ALSPA

www.alstom.com POWER AUTOMATION AND CONTROLS ALSPA CARE PARTIAL DISCHARGE HIGH CAPACITANCE SENSORS During propagation of PD signals from source to sensor, the high-frequency components are more attenuated than the low-frequencies. In order to detect PD sources throughout the entire stator winding, Alstom offers high capacitance sensors tuned to the low frequency signal component. HIGH MEASUREMENT FLEXIBILITY & ACCURACY Thanks to advanced fully digital fltering technology, the detection frequency band is freely adjustable to suit the specifc generator and site conditions. This ensures higher accuracy. SENSOR FLEXIBILITY Thanks to the extraordinary dynamic range and high signal-to-noise ratio, ALSPA Care Partial Discharge is able to support a wide variety of sensors with different capacitances. HIGH RESOLUTION PATTERNS DISPLAY Traditionally, PD systems offer low resolution displays and pulse counting systems, which do not provide accurate insights about the actual PD sources. ALPSA Care Partial Discharge provides high resolution phase-resolved PD pat- terns for visual analysis. The assessor can thus rapidly distinguish between noise and different types of valid PD signals. OVERALL INDICATION OF STATOR WINDING CONDITION The Assessed Condition Trending System employed provides users with an overall indication of the stator winding health and the deviations over time. A superior wideband partial discharge monitoring solution Following the recommendation of IEC 60270, instead of measuring the signal peak (Volt), ALSPA Care Partial Discharge measures the apparent charge (Coulomb) as this measure is less affected by propagation effects. ABOUT PARTIAL DISCHARGES Partial discharges (PD) are localised electrical discharges that only partially bridge the insulation between conductors in high-voltage insulation systems. They are an indicator of insulation aging processes. Partial discharges types:
