TPE #3: Interpretation and use of assessments

Teaching candidates understand and use a variety of informal and formal assessments as well as

formative and summative assessments to determine students' progress and in order to plan instruction.

Candidates understand how to familiarize students with the format of standardized tests and know

when to make adaptations for students with special needs.

Abstract:

This article is a unit exam that was given to students at the end of learning each of the sections.

Each section was given to students before the teaching of the material to test prior knowledge, and at

the end of learning the material as a quiz.

Rationale:

This exam demonstrates the formative as each section was used as a quiz, and summative as a

summation of the individual units that were learned. Informal assessment was done during the

instructional period in a way through the quizzes. Depending on the scores of the quizzes, information

was re-taught or the class moved on to a new concept. The formal assessment was done during the unit

exam.
