audio etc. I7ve done t4is in an e55ort to try to prevent people searc4in&6 or as8in& t4e same 9uestions
over and over a&ain :it7s really 1ecause I7m suc4 a nice person ;p<. +4e document s4ould 1e pretty

you will 4ave to crissBcross t4e wires.

-ne ot4er t4in&6 t4e pin num1ers used may not matc4 up to your 4ardware. I 4ad no way to 8now w4ic4 pin was 1 so I Cust started at w4at I t4ou&4t
mi&4t 1e it. .ll t4e pins still matc4 up correctly6 Cust 1e sure you 8now i5 you need to rotate your N-./ 1$( de&rees 5or it to matc4 up.
+4is is 4ow t4e data appears on t4e Super Joy 3. 0ou mi&4t notice t4ere are some missin& parts 5rom t4e 1oard. +4at7s 1ecause at t4e time I too8 t4e
picture I 4ad desoldered t4em and moved t4em underneat4 t4e 1oard to ma8e it 5it in a new case.

0our Super Coy 3 most li8ely came wit4 a player 2 controller. 0ou can wire it to wor8 wit4 a normal N2S6 or cut it up and use it 5or somet4in& else :suc4
as a N2S Porta1le >< +4e resistor on t4e ri&4t is not needed. +4e controller 5unctions 5ine wit4out it6 so I would remove it. 0ou can leave it i5 you want6 it

Player 2 player controller in t4e 5a8ey 3enesis s4ell<6 I presume one is used 5or latc4 and one 5or &round. Iowever6 as I tore up my 2 player controller
5or t4e &lop top6 I do not 8now w4ic4 one is w4ic4.

. new revision o5 t4e Super Joy III6 w4ic4 I received 5rom www.4t5r.com6 t4is di55ers to t4e Power
Player version in several ways. ,irstly6 t4ere is no second player controller or li&4t &un in t4e
pac8a&in&. It also comes wit4out an ./ adaptor6 and t4e .! ca1le ends in a S/.R+ connector6
presuma1ly as it is a 2urpoean version. -n my version6 t4e words JSuper Joystic87 were painted on6
w4ereas t4ey are en&raved on raised plastic on t4e Power Player version. ,inally6 t4e / 1utton 4oles
are lined up on t4is version6 w4ereas t4ey are out o5 line on t4e Power Player version.
.s I am t4e only one to 4ave seen t4is version t4at I 8now o56 I 4ave only mana&ed to mar8 out a
rou&4 pinout. Please not t4at t4is 4as not 1een tested6 as I dama&ed t4e 1oard w4en tryin& to
remove t4e ,amicom connector.

+4e power is setup a little odd on t4e connector. !:2< comes 5rom t4e #$( on t4e N-./ mo1o6 and
!:1< powers t4e N-./ itsel5 and t4e controllers6 so to power t4e unit you need to ma8e a
connection 5rom !:2< to !:1< or Cust input ! into t4e !:1< pin. +o reset you Cust connect reset to
&round6 on t4e P/) t4ey also 4ave a small capacitor lin8ed wit4 t4e switc4.

+4e c4eap manu5acturers included an ./! out connector6 1ut it was not connected internally6
so it only outputted an R, si&nal6 wit4 t4e worse 9uality I7ve ever seen. Eeird6 since t4ere was
space on t4e P/) 5or a transistor and 2 resistors6 1ut t4ey did not put t4em in. ,i=ed t4at too6
1ut instead o5 usin& a 2N44(1 I put in a )/1#2). It wor8s6 1ut t4ere is a lot o5 dot crawl6 and I
mi&4t try a&ain wit4 a 2N44(1 to see i5 t4e ima&e 9uality improves.

I5 you want to re1uild a N2S controller usin& tact switc4es6 you will need t4e a1ove 4(21 s4i5t
re&ister6 and $ 4#L -4m resistors6 w4ic4 5unction as pullBdown resistors. E4en a 1utton is
pressed6 t4e volts &oin& to t4at particular pin on t4e s4i5t re&ister is &rounded out6 or Jpulled
low7. E4en t4e s4i5t re&ister detects a pin 1ein& pulled low6 it considers t4at 1utton or direction
pressed.
+4e w4ite wire on t4e N2S controller always connects to a C47 source6 and t4e 1rown wire
connects to Ground. +4e ot4er coloured wires connect to t4eir correspondin& la1elled points
on t4e N-./.
+o use t4e 4#L -4m resistors6 you need to connect one end o5 t4e resistor to t4e E4ite pin on
t4e s4i5t re&ister6 and connect t4e ot4er end o5 t4e resistor to t4e relevant pin on t4e s4i5t
re&ister. +4e 1utton line comin& 5rom t4e tact switc4 connects in 1etween t4e resistor and t4e
s4i5t re&ister pin. +4e ot4er end o5 t4e tact switc4 connects to &round :1rown<. +4e dia&ram

.lternatively6 i5 you 4ave space to 8eep t4e ori&inal N2S controller 1oard intact6 1ut still want to
use tact switc4es on a 1read1oard6 t4en scrape some o5 t4e &reen coverin& o55 t4e traces
eit4er side o5 t4e 1utton pad6 and solder leads 5rom your tact switc4 to t4ese points. +4e
dia&ram 1elow illustrates t4is.

%ost N-./s are run on 4=.. 1atteries6 w4ic4 provides "! o5 power. N-./s are 5airly tolerant
i.e. you can put "! o5 power into t4e D! pin o5 t4e N-./6 and it will run 5ine.
%ost N-./s also come wit4 a wall adaptor6 w4ic4 outputs M '! D/. +4is runs into a #$(6
w4ic4 8noc8s down t4e '! to ! 5or t4e N-./ to run
I5 you want to use more t4an "! to power t4e N-./ e.&. i5 you are usin& a #.2! 1attery pac8
in conCunction wit4 a PS-ne screen6 you will need to use a #$( volta&e re&ulator to provide
! 5or t4e N-./. Don7t 5or&et to use a 4eatsin8 5or t4e #$(@
Audio
.ll N-./s output mono audio only6 as t4e N2S was a mono system in t4e 5irst place. It is not
possi1le to split t4e si&nals comin& 5rom a N-./6 and even i5 you could6 it would sound
terri1le6 as N-./s are &enerally poor emulators o5 t4e N2S sound c4ip.
%ost N-./ audio si&nals are relatively wea86 and usually re9uire an audio amp to 1oost
t4em.
7ideo
%ost N-./s seem to output composite video. I don7t 8now i5 any are a1le to output R3)6
alt4ou&4 I dou1t it would 1e possi1le. 3enerally6 t4e video si&nal is stron& enou&4 to 1e
playa1le. Iowever6 i5 you do want to ampli5y it6 you will need to construct a 1ooster circuit
usin& t4e dia&ram 1elow :ori&inal dia&ram 1y 1ionicle1ert6 edited and cleaned up 1y me<.
Cartrid.e Conne$tor
%any N-./s come wit4 a "( pin cartrid&e connector6 w4ic4 can 1e used to play N+S/
,amicom &ames. -ne nota1le e=ception is t4e 0o1o6 w4ic4 comes wit4 a #2 pin connector
w4ic4 can play GS &ames. I5 you want to play GS/GL &ames on a "( pin N-./6 you eit4er
need to 1uy a ,amily /onverter6 or wire your own adaptor. I5 you own a Power Player Super
Joy III6 you can c4ec8 t4e pinouts in t4e Power Player Super Joy III section in t4is document. .

%ost N-./s 4ave a reset pin w4ic4 reverts 1ac8 to t4e main menu6 i5 t4ere are 1uilt in &ames6
or resets t4e cart6 i5 you7re usin& t4at 5unction. +o ma8e a reset switc46 use a pus4BtoBma8e
switc46 and connect one side to t4e reset pin6 and one side to &round. +4e system is reset
w4en t4e reset pin is connected to &round momentarily.
