A new location reflects the growth of the
Manufacturing and Career Expo that is being organized
by the chambers in Menomonee Falls, Germantown and
Sussex.
The expo is a manufacturing trade show that is
designed to make students aware of the career opportu-
nities in manufacturing. This years event will be held Oct.
8-9 at the Washington County Fairgrounds, 3000
Pleasant Valley Road, in West Bend. The Manufacturing
and Career Expo (MCE) will include times set aside for
students in the Germantown, Menomonee Falls and
Hamilton districts to view displays by local companies
and ask questions. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 3
p.m. Oct. 8 and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 9.
Toni Gumina Yates, executive director of the
Menomonee Falls Community Chamber, said approxi-
mately 700 students are expected to attend this years
event. Besides students from the Menomonee Falls,
Germantown and Hamilton districts, Yates said this year
the Expo will welcome students from Brown Deer,
Milwaukee, Richfield, West Bend, GPS for Education, and
the homeschool community.
Based on previous years the MCE committee knows
that number will increase by 150 to 200 visitors that will
attend as individuals, Yates said. The MCE is free to
attend and we certainly encourage and welcome all
school districts from Waukesha, Washington and
Milwaukee Counties as well as the surrounding areas to

Having a manufacturing workforce is
critical for Wisconsin, as the state is tied
with Indiana for the highest percent of the
workforce (16.3) in the manufacturing sec-
tor, according to information from the
National Association of Manufacturers.
Also, according to 2013 figures from the
same organization there are approximately
458,400 people in manufacturing employ-
ment in the state. Information from the same
source states that average annual compen-
sation in manufacturing as of 2012 was
$65,917.
Since the Expo was started, Yates said
she has heard from companies who were
contacted by students who first learned
about career options at their business
through the Expo.
This is always very encouraging feed-
back. It is proof that we are accomplishing
our mission to bring awareness to students
of the career opportunities within the manu-
facturing industry, Yates said.
Yates said the move of the event from
Davians Banquet and Conference Center
to the Washington County Fair Park reflects
the current and future growth of the event.
Davians was a wonderful location and
the DS/Davians team were always great to
work with. However, by year five the Expo
had grown to the point that exhibitor space
was fully occupied, Yates said. So, to
allow for future growth of the Expo the
MCE committee made the decision to relo-
cate to a larger venue.

Fall Into...
Forty years after the last service was held
at Immanuel Kirchhayn Church in the town of
Jackson, a new book documents the history
of the pioneer church.
Pioneer Church Records Speak:
Immanuel Kirchhayn Church, Jackson,
Wisconsin, 1847-1974 was written was
edited by Royal Natzke, who has a family
connection to the church.
My special interest in Immanuel began
when my uncle, Rev. Paul Natzke, was serv-
ing Immanuel (1956-1960) and discovered
that our ancestors were among the charter
members of Immanuel in 1847 and farmed
in the Jackson area for 15 years before mov-
ing to Wayside in Brown County, Royal
Natzke explained in a recent email. In
1974 the remaining eight members of
Immanuel asked me to preach for the closing
service on Nov. 10th of that year. Ever since
then I have felt that the story of Immanuel
needed to be told.
The church building is now the center of
the Jackson Historical Society grounds,
where the book was available for sale dur-
ing the Raspberry Festival on Sept. 7. To
make the book possible, Royal Natzke spent
the past 10 years researching, translating,
gathering photographs of staff and build-
ings, coordinating the skills of volunteers,
and writing the book. His son Peter Natzke
entered the English translation of church
records into a computer, Martha Clapham
designed the covers and several maps for
the book while Steve Barlau translated min-
utes of voters meetings into English.
Besides the church records, Natzke said the
book also contains the narrative of the growth of
the church as it gathered mainly German
Lutheran immigrants into its membership.
A major theme of the life of Immanuel
(and of this book) is the role that zeal for the
Christian faith played in the growth and

Work is progressing on a duplex being
constructed in the village of Jackson by
Habitat for Humanity of Washington and
Dodge Counties.
Morgan Pfaff, buildsite and family plan-
ning coordinator for Habitat of Humanity for
Washington and Dodge Counties, explained
that Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical
Christian housing ministry, building and
maintaining homes in partnership with the
community and those in need. We have
been serving families in Washington County
since 1998, and have expanded to include
Dodge County in the past year. We offer
both new home construction and existing
home repair services to veterans, low-income
families, elderly and disabled residents of
Washington and Dodge Counties, as well as
offering three ReStore locations throughout
the two counties to serve the public.
Pfaff stated that in order to qualify for a
home build (or home repair), families must
meet three criteria: demonstrate a need,
demonstrate an ability to pay, and be willing
to partner with Habitat (i.e., perform sweat
equity). For these programs, we build the
homes using as much donated material and
labor as possible. Because of this, we are
able to offer our approved Partner Families a
no-interest mortgage based on the actual
cost to build the home, or the cost of materi-
als to perform the repair. We are then able
to arrange affordable monthly payments that
do not exceed 30 percent of the familys
monthly gross income. In this way we are
able to realize our vision of a world where
everyone has a decent and affordable place
to live.
The groundbreaking for the project was
in June. According to information from Pfaff,
the Jackson site is in the process of framing
and raising the walls and installing the roof
trusses over the past week. She stated the
intention is to complete the eastern half of the
duplex by Dec. 3, in order to qualify for a
$50,000 grant from Thrivent Financial. The
project will focus on completing the interior
finish work on the western portion of the
duplex in the continuing months, with the
intention of breaking ground for the next
home build in Jackson next spring.
According to Pfaff, there has been
approximately 4,385 volunteers hours on
the home build so far. Many of those hours
have been performed by the generous
efforts of individual volunteers alongside the
group volunteer dates. Groups that have
been part of the home build so far have

For anyone who ever wanted to run a 5K
race at a time other than the early morning,
the Energy 5K that will be held in Jackson at
6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 is your race to run.
The race will begin at the village of
Jackson Fire Station, W204 N16722
Jackson Drive, and follow a route that will
end at the Jackson Area Community Center.
Registration is $25 for individuals age 15
and older and $15 for individuals under age
15. Registration includes a T-shire and glo
gear such as necklace and bracelets, along
with other items for children. Also, there is no
charge for the After Glo party.
According to Susan Krueger, a member
of the Energy Glo committee, the committee
is a group of Local Herbalife Independent
Distributors and members that wanted to do
some thing to give back to the community of
Jackson.
A 5k Glo Run and After Glo DJ Party, is
just the event that would be a lot of fun, and
promote a healthy active lifestyle, Krueger
said in an email.
Funds raised from the event and a silent
auction and mini bar afterward will go
toward the Friends of Jackson Joint Park
and Rec and The Jackson Fire Fighters
Association Scholarship Fund.
The Energy Glo committee wanted to
do a fund raiser for a group or groups that
would be sure to directly benefit the commu-
nity, Krueger said. The Fire Fighters
Association are always looking for innova-
tive ways to raise money for scholarship
funds for the area kids looking to get into the
health industry, EMT, Nurses, Fire Fighters,
etc. we presented this to them and they were
on board.
She added that the park friends group
is a newer organization just getting started,
their goals are to be able to raise funds for
the park and rec department which, if your
ever around at 3:15 p.m. you'll see how
many kids from the community use the
Community Center services. The Village of
Jackson parks get a tremendous amount of
use too. Both organizations are very excit-
ed about the event.
Anyone interested can register online at
www.VillageOfJackson.com and going into
the Park and Recreation tab. Registrations will
also be taken in person at the Jackson Area
Community Center and Energy Express.

was moving and unable to take care of
her. She is good with dogs with a slow
introduction. Aspen can be picky with her dog friends, and
does not at all like cats. She would do best with children age
6 and older. Aspen is a friendly girl who knows sit, down,
come and shake. Come in today and meet this sweet girl.

Tip of the Week: When introducing a new cat or dog into a household with a resident animal, patience is
key. Start by letting the animals exist in separate rooms as they acclimate to the scent of a new companion
in the home. Next, let them meet through a baby gate, screen door, or crate so they can see but not touch
each other. The final step is short, monitored visits in the same room. Once they no longer display
aggressive body language, they can begin to interact and cohabitate.

VILLAGE OF GERMANTOWN
For your convenience the Village Public Works Department is
scheduling a Fall brush pick-up starting the second Monday in October
(October 13, 2014). Although this process will take approximately 2
weeks to complete, we will not be extending the pick-up, or picking up
brush that is put out after Sunday, October 12, 2014.
Limbs shall be no more than 6 foot in length and placed at the curb with
the trunk facing the street for easier handling. Please tie branches 2 or
smaller into bundles no larger than 2 feet in diameter using twine or light
rope. Your cooperation with this will greatly increase the efficiency at
which we can pick up the brush. Brush in containers WILL NOT be
picked up as too often there is yardwaste in the bottom of the
container. Yardwaste and leaves are not included in
the pick-up. We encourage you to take your
yardwaste to the Recycling Center.
Please be aware that raking leaves into the
street area is against Village Ordinance and
the Village of Germantown WILL NOT pick
up such leaves. Again, we encourage you to
take your leaves to the Recycling Center.

Girls volleyball: Falls 11th at
Sprawl, Germantown 19th
A fast start in the first and third quarters
was enough for Germantown against
Grafton, as the Warhawks topped the
Blackhawks Sept. 26, 51-14, toward the
end of the Warhawks homecoming week.
"They did a really good job of focusing
this week," Germantown Coach Jake Davis
said afterward.
Germantown finished its opening drive
with a 1-yard run by Joe Lemerond at the
6:03 mark of the first quarter. Grafton's first
drive ended with a missed field goal, and
Germantown responded with an eight-play
drive that ended with a 34-yard pass play
from Dwayne Lawhorn Jr. to Carter Schmitz
with 54 seconds left in the first quarter.
Germantown then recovered a Grafton
fumble at the Blackhawks 25-yard line.
Lemerond scored two plays later to give
Germantown a 21-0 lead after the first
quarter. The teams would trade touchdowns
in the second quarter, with Grafton failing
to convert the point after touchdown.
Germantown took a 35-6 lead by the 7:21
mark of the third quarter on a 20-yard pass
play from Lawhorn to Schmitz, which com-
pleted an 80-yard drive. Spencer Pethan
scored for Germantown at the 5:40 mark
on a 6-yard run while Lawhorn and Connor
Edmonds teamed up on a 60-yard pass
play at the 2:37 mark.
Schmitz finished the scoring for
Germantown with a 43-yard field goal at
the 11:54 mark while Romeo Wood scored
on a 3-yard run for Grafton with 4:09
remain. Grafton then converted the two-
point attempt.
Lawhorn completed 13 of 18 passes for
226 yards and three touchdowns while
Lemerond ran for 88 yards and three
touchdowns on 12 carries.
Germantown will add to its winning
streak without taking the field this weekend,
due to Nicolet forfeiting its season. With the
Nicolet forfeit included, Germantown now
has a 5-0 conference record and a 7-0
overall mark. Davis said the weekend will
allow the team to heal up and correct sev-
eral things before their next game.
Menomonee Falls 39,
Wauwatosa East 22: Menomonee Falls
improved its record to 3-1 in the Greater
Metro Conference and 4-2 overall follow-
ing the win over the Red Raiders.
Menomonee Falls entered halftime with a
21-14 lead and added onto the lead in the
fourth quarter as Bryce McMurtry finished
a drive with a 3-yard run at the 11:56 mark
while Quintin Handy scored on a 46-yard
run at the 8:04 mark of the fourth quarter to
make the score 36-14. McMurtry led
Menomonee Falls with 186 rushing yards
and three touchdowns on 23 carries.
Marquette 47, Hamilton 7: The
Hilltoppers dominated the passing game,
completing 19 of 26 passes for 205 yards
and four touchdowns. Hamilton completed
7 of 11 passes for 34 yards.

More than 400 volunteers gathered at Washington
County Fair Park Sept. 24 to take action against hunger in
Washington County for the county United Ways annual
Day of Action. Families, individuals, and company teams
packaged 66,096 meals for distribution to five local food
pantries, including Full Shelf, Hartford, and Jackson Food
Pantry. Not only did volunteers exceed last years record of
61,000 meals, but they also worked faster, finishing in
under two hours.
It was a rewarding evening, said Ted Neitzke,
Superintendent of West Bend School District and 2014
United Way Campaign Chair. It was incredible to see
what happens when people from all around Washington
County unite for a common goal: putting others first.
Kristin Brandner, executive director of United Way of
Washington County, said many people are not aware that
hunger is an issue.
A lot of us dont realize that people in our community
struggle with hunger every day, she said. We wanted to
not only build awareness of this issue, but also use our Day
of Action to make an impact for those in need.
The Day of Action is a community kickoff for the United
Ways annual fundraising campaign, which runs through
Dec. 31. Other volunteer projects that were completed
throughout the day included trail building at Girl Scouts
Camp Silverbrook, assisting with a craft fair at The
Threshold, and distributing recruitment material for Big
Brothers Big Sisters.
United Way of Washington County encourages the
community to Give, Advocate, and Volunteer all year long.
Funds raised during the campaign will support 20 programs
aligned under the pillars of Education, Income, and Health.
Additionally, the campaign will help support new root-
cause initiatives and three strategic partners. To learn how
your donations to United Way support those in need, and
to make a donation online, go to
www.UnitedWayOfWashingtonCounty.org.

Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter
Dear Dr. Winter, I just had a full mouth makeover in
Costa Rica and am unhappy. They built up my teeth too
much and they look like horse teeth. Can you adjust them
for me and how much will it cost?
Dear J. I am sorry you are unhappy and am also sorry
you felt the need to go out of the United States to have
your work done. Since I have had the opportunity to see
you and your restorations I can only comment that there
were cement lines between your crowns and your teeth
and these will eventually dissolve and you will notice
gaps between your teeth and crowns. This will lead to
decay and discomfort. While not all tourist dentistry is
bad, patients need to realize that if dentistry is cheaper it
may not be comparable to what you would have received
here. If a patient is not satisfied it is up to the patient to
return to the dentist that did the work for follow-up care.
Adentist cannot take responsibility for altering another
dentists porcelain crowns. Adjusting crowns can lead to
chipping, porcelain fracture or exposure of the tooth
preparation. So when you are considering medical
tourism please realize that you may need to go back to that
country several times for adjustments, replacements or
further treatment and you should allocate funds for that up
front. Dentists in the United States use materials that have
been accepted by the American Dental Association and
most stand behind their work. One red flag is that you
were unhappy with your temporary crowns. If a dentist is
conscientious they will use the temporary crowns as a
blue print to help establish the proper esthetics for a full
mouth makeover. To simply shave the teeth down
because they are too big may lead to unaesthetic crowns
that do not have the proper shape. Then they may need to
be started from scratch.
Dear Dr. Winter, I have bulimia and am ready to have
my teeth fixed. They are chipped and sensitive and ugly
and I really am afraid they will keep breaking down
without some serious help. How much will this cost. I am
still purging but have really cut down on this habit.
Dear Jane, I would need you to be in remission to help
you with definitive crowns. That being said there are
temporary solutions such as bonding and night guards that
may help you in the short term while you continue to
battle this illness. Working with a psychologist and
perhaps a psychiatrist can help tremendously in working
on strategies for success.
Dr. Winter my 82 year old mom needs help with her
denture! She takes it out to eat and puts it on the table
because she has so much pain while wearing them.
Dear Ann, we would be happy to see your mother to
discuss options. Perhaps a silicone liner could help her to
have less discomfort or mini-implants could be
evaluated to help hold her dentures in while she eats.
We would be happy to perform a second opinion or
comprehensive examination and x-ray visit for our
readers! Please call us at 414-464-9021 to schedule your
visit. We invite you to visit our new website at
www.hamptondentalassociates.com
For photos and videos of our dentistry and
information about implants and cosmetics.
We look forward to meeting you!
