The first item has a bestseller rank of >1?,/:1. #t7s estimated that it7s selling at a rate of about %
units per day, which would mean that it7s grossing around 9%@ a day.

The second product, on the other hand, has a best sellers rank of >11). ,o, it7s estimated that

Dou7ve probably heard lots of people talk about Ama'on and the opportunities that eAist there.
Dou can really create a crushing business on Ama'on. (ne of the maEor opportunities that you
can take advantage of is sourcing products to sell on Ama'on. Dou can add these products to
Ama'on7s inventory and to Ama'on7s website. Dou can even use Ama'on7s delivery pipeline,
which is known as ;A, to deliver you product to the customer.
A few eAamples of the types of product you can sell are shown above, and you can sell out of

pretty much any product that is currently being sold, and you can buy that product for a
wholesale price.

Let7s eAamine this for a moment. Dou may notice that there is a minimum order Kuantity on
this listing of 2,@@@ pieces. Dou7ll also notice that you can buy these for 91F9% apiece. This is
the ;( price. ;( basically means that you pay for the shipping. Right off the bat you need to
know that you7re going to pay the shipping to get the product to Ama'on. Dou also need to
understand that there are other suppliers on Alibaba that have the same product for a little
more or a little less. This seller, however, is selling them for 91 to 9% apiece. That7s the price
that this case study is going to be based on.
0nowing what you will pay for the product is the first piece of the pu''le. !ere7s the second
piece which # call my $ro!it (ra&e because it shows me how much money # can make on a
particular product4
Ama'on has a calculator that allows you to figure out what your costs are going to be when
selling any particular product on Ama'on. ,o, you find a product that is similar to what you
want to sell on Ama'on and grab its A,#5 from its product listing. A product7s A,#5 is uniKue to
every product. Then, you type the price that you7re going to sell the product for into the L#tem
Price7 field on the Ama'on ;ulfillment area of the calculator. #n this case, it would be 9:.::,
which is what the item is currently selling for. 5eAt, you would enter the wholesale price that
you found on Alibaba into the LPrep ,ervice7 field. This will allow you to calculate your own
costs in addition to what Ama'on is going to charge you.
As previously stated, the manufacturer on Alibaba will allow you to purchase this product at the
wholesale price of 91F9%. !owever, the only way that you7re going to get this product for 91
apiece is if you purchase the entire minimum Kuantity amount of 2,@@@ pieces. Dou can usually
negotiate this minimum Kuantity, but you7re probably not going to be able to do so and get the
lower price. ,o, it7s best to Eust suppose that these are going to cost you at least 93 apiece.
Dou7ll need to double this though because shipping usually costs about as much as the price of
your product. Therefore, you7ll need to enter 9& into the LPrep ,ervice7 field in the calculator.

#n this case, with all of the costs calculated, you will find that you will be able to make a profit of

This is #hy yo%1re in the arithmeti& b%siness. Dou can go to any product listed on Ama'on,
pick it apart, and figure out the math. Through this calculation, you7ll be able to figure out if
this is going to be a product that is profitable to sell or not. As you can see from the calculation
above, if you7re selling 12@ units a day, which was estimated for the product with the best
sellers ranking of >11), you7re going to wind up making 9/,2:2.@@ a month.
5ow, the higher priced spiral slicer was selling for 91&.:& per day, which is a lot closer to the
price that the product was selling for when # purchased it at ed, ath C eyond. Nactually at
C it was 91&.::O #f you priced the product at 91&.:&, your monthly profit would add up to
be considerably more. Take a look at the following calculation4

this same life Eacket is selling for 93 F 911 per unit. Through my eAperience with Alibaba sellers,
# estimate that you could probably get this item for around 9& without buying the entire
minimum order Kuantity. #7m being very conservative in that estimation, Eust to play it safe.
Remember, however, you need to double this price to account for shipping.

That7s two eAamples of how you can go in and dissect any listing out there to figure out if you
could make any money with a particular product. 5ow, a lot of this obviously depends on the
best sellers rating and how many products are sold per day. #f you remember, in The Tale of
Two Product Listings, one product was selling at a much higher rate than the other. That means
one was bringing in a lot more in profits that the other. There are a lot of reasons for this, and
it had to do with the difference between the two listings. These differences are going to be
pointed out in the following section.
The real key to making profits on Ama'on is looking at the math beforehand. Aren7t you glad
that you7re in the Arithmetic usiness. efore you spend a dime on #nventory you can go to

Ama'on and dissect other people7s product listings in order to figure out whether or not a
product will be profitable. ;rom the details of someone else7s listing, you can tell if the seller is
making money and estimate Eust how much they are making.

Throughout the remaining portions of this lesson, #7m going to be revealing some golden
nuggets of information. Every time you see the term <(L=E5 5I<<ET, pay close attention to
the information because that7s an indication that a game changer is being shared.
Dou have probably been wondering throughout this presentation how # know how many
products people are selling based on a product7s best seller ranking. # make these estimations
through research that # and my team have done. *e put together a basic chart that gives us an
estimate. !ere it is4

are these estimates, but they are very conservative estimates. ;or instance, the first line in the
estimation above says that if a product has a best seller ranking of L17, it7s selling %@@ units a
day. *ell, that would be in the worst selling category. ,o, whatever product that is would
likely be selling about )@@ units per day, but it7s better to use conservative numbers to play it
safe.
Three ).6 "d7antages o! +eing on "ma'on
Dou need to know about the three big advantages that Ama'on gives you as a seller. ;irst of all,
they give you access to their delivery pipeline N;AO. The way this works is your product is
shipped to one of Ama'on7s various warehouses. Dou can get your supplier to send to your
location first and then you send them to Ama'on, or you can get them sent directly to Ama'on
from the supplier.
*hen you order a product from Ama'on, you usually get them within two or three days even if
you7re not a Prime member. Ama'on has special deals with IP, and the I, Postal ,ervice in
which they have to deliver Ama'on7s packages first. People love receiving these smiling boAes
on their doorstep.
#f you sell on Ama'on you7re able to leverage the trust and loyalty that Ama'on has built with
their customers over the years. #n other words, you don7t have to convince a customer that
you7re a trustworthy company to do business with. #n fact, these consumers don7t even care
about you as a companyP they only care about the product itself and that they can purchase it
through Ama'on, which most people consider a reliable source for products. ,o, that Ama'on
trust gets passed on to you.

;inally, and probably most importantly, you have access to Ama'on7s HA,,#8E traffic system.
That means you don7t have to pay for advertising to get people to come to your product listing.
The traffic is already thereP you Eust have to know how to tap into it.

There are really Eust two maEor steps to getting started on Ama'on. ;irst of all, you need to
find highFprofit products to sell.

# use certain criteria filters to find the absolute best products to sell on Ama'on and filter out
poor prospective products. Dou can eliminate about :@Q of the poor prospective products by
using these criteria filters4
Criteria =iter >1
There are a lot of different categories that you can sell products within on Ama'on. !owever,
some of them are restricted and some are not. The categories listed in the screenshot above
are the ones that are nonFrestricted, meaning that you don7t have to have any type of approval
to sell within them. Dou don7t have to fill out any paperwork to sell within these categories,
and you don7t have to sign any contracts to sell in them. To reiterate, these categories are4

Dou want the item that you7re selling to be small because larger items are harder and more
eApensive to ship. 0eep in mind that most of the items that you source are going to come from
$hina because that7s where the maEority of products are manufactured nowadays. A ruleFofF
thumb to follow is that you want to find items that can fit in the palm of your hand.
Criteria =iter >?
Dou want your product to be lightweight because you want your shipping weight to be as low as
possible. A good guideline to follow for this reKuirement is to only choose products that weigh
less than a pound. #f you find one that weights a pound, that7s usually okay. !owever, you
don7t really want anything that weighs much more than that.
Criteria =iter >4
*hen you choose a product, you7ll want it to have a best seller ranking of 1,@@@ or better. #f
you remember, a product7s best seller ranking reflects directly upon how well a product is
selling on Ama'on. A product7s best seller ranking can be found within the Product =etails

section of a products listing. The lower a product7s best seller ranking is, the better. ,o, if a
product has a best seller ranking of %/, that product is selling eAtremely well.
Criteria =iter >@
Dou will need to be able to price and sell your item for at least 9: and no more than 92@.
Therefore, when you7re looking for items on Ama'on, you7ll want to find products that are
priced within this price range as well.
The reason why you don7t want to price your items any lower than 9: is because it7s hard to
make a profit on a product that7s priced for any less. That7s because of all the Ama'on fees and
shipping fees that you have to pay. Dou might recall, for eAample, the product that was price at
9:.:: in the previous section. After the cost of shipping and the Ama'on fees were added up,
only a little over 91.:1 could be made off of each unit sold. ,o, if you were selling the item for
any less than that, you would run the risk of losing money.
Dou also don7t want to sell items that cost more than 92@. That7s because when a product costs
more than 92@, people are less likely to buy it on impulse. #n other words, if people have to
think about it more, it7s going to be a harder sell.
Criteria >A
*hen you search on Alibaba.com, you want to find multiple suppliers to source your product
from. Dou don7t want to go with an item that you can only find one supplier for because, if you
do, that supplier will be able to Lhold your feet to the fire7. That means you won7t be able to
negotiate with them about things like minimum order Kuantity or price discounts.
Criteria >B
Dou want to find products which will allow you to have at least a &@@Q markup. That sounds
like a lot, but it7s really not. ,ay that you found an item that you can get sourced through
Alibaba for 93. A &@@Q markup for a 93 item would be 9/, since 3A& M /. An 9/ item would be
disKualified from because it7s less than 9:. !owever, if you could source it for 93 and sell it for

91@, the item would not only meet the pricing criteria, it would also have a markup that was
more than &@@Q. That would be a 2@@Q markup, which would be really good.
The second step in getting started on Ama'on is to find suppliers. There are plenty of places to
find suppliers online, but the leading one is Alibaba.com.
Alibaba.com is a database of suppliers and manufacturers. Host of them are from $hina. Even
though the site itself is pretty trustworthy overall, it can be challenging to find reputable
suppliers with realistic minimum order Kuantities. The best way to go about finding a reliable
source for products is to look at the number of years a supplier has been on Alibaba.

Dou can see in the picture above that this listing contains a gold seal. (n that gold seal it says L/
yr7. #f a seller has a gold seal, that means they have paid 9%,@@@ to Alibaba for an additional
background check. ,o, suppliers with this seal have made an investment to be viewed as
trustworthy sources on this site. This also shows that the supplier has been on the site for eight
years. That7s very good. # look for companies that have this gold seal and have been on Alibaba
for at least five years.
Another thing you want to pay attention to is a supplier7s response rate. #n the picture above,
you can see that this supplier has a response rate of :@.:Q. This Eust means that this supplier is
great at responding back to their inKuiries. Dou want to look for suppliers with a response rate
of ?2Q or above.

The Competition

5ow let7s talk about competing with current sellers. There are three critical areas of a listing
that you can use to blow the competition away. These are4

2. ullets
3. Title

y far, the most important part of a listing is its images. Take a look at these two listings for the
same product4
The listing on the left above contains only one very basic image.
The one on the right contains seven different images in total. 5ot only do these images look
appealing to the eye, they also demonstrate the benefits of this product, or how it can actually
be used. Ask yourself4 *hat listing would you be more likely to purchase this product from.

As you can see there are several images in the second listing that highlight the benefits of this
product and how it can be used.

The other images show the product at a number of different angles so that the consumer can
make an informed decision about their purchase. ;urthermore, each of the images in this
listing highlights something different about the product.

The images on the second listing are much more enticing. 5ot only are they going to make the
product more appealing to the user, they are going to keep that consumer on the page longer.
*hen a user is clicking on these images and interacting with the product, that7s going to make
it much more likely that they will reach over and click the LAdd to $art7 button on the other side
of the page.

!ere is a screenshot of the bullet points from one of the product7s listings4
Ama'on refers to these as features. *hat is a feature. A feature describes something about
the product such as its dimensions or its weight. #t may also describe the material it7s made of.
;eatures don7t tap into the buying triggers of most consumers. # recommend you use these
bullet points to emphasi'e a product7s benefits instead. ;or instance, a person that wants to
buy one of these slicers is probably interested in losing weight. ,o, you might use the bullet
points to point out that you can use this product to turn 'ucchini into low carb pasta in order to
make healthier dishes.

5ow, there are certain features of a product that you might want to point out in order to help
your customer Eustify their purchase. !owever, in cases such as this you want to point out the
feature and then the benefit. ;or instance, you may want to point out that an item is stainless
steel and therefore dishwasher safe. Dou can see this has been pointed out in the bullet points
below. The bullet points below, by the way, aren7t the best eAample of what you should do, but
this seller has done a much better Eob with these bullet points than the seller who wrote the
previous ones. ,till, in this eAample they are pointing out way too many features and not
enough benefits.

That7s a pretty good eAample of what you would want your bullet points to be like. The last
bullet point in the eAample above is weak. #t7s a bit long and could point out the benefits of the
product better. # would write something like +=esigned to take healthy raw vegetables and
turn them into delicious pasta for people on lowFcarb diets.- After all, that7s what the product

listing contains the phrases +spiral vegetable slicer- and +Bapanese stainless steel blades-, this
listing will show up in the results for this search. This is demonstrated in the screenshot above.
,ince Ama'on saw these keywords within the bullet point, it highlighted that bullet point. Look
at the Product ;eatures shown in the neAt result and you see that the same thing has
happened. Ama'on put up a bullet point that was relevant to the search.

The third critical area that you can utili'e to really trump your competition is the title. Dour title
should contain your main keyword and your ultimate benefit using 13@ characters or less. The
ultimate benefit should be the absolute best benefit that you can think of for your product.
The purpose of your title is to get the prospect to click on your product link. Look at the two
product titles shown below. The one on the left has a twoFline title, and the one on the right
has a much longer title. 5ot only is it longer, but it has three little dots at the end because this
one has a longer title than can be shown on the results page. That7s not necessarily a terrible
thing. !owever, if this were your title, you would want to make sure that your main benefit
and your main keyword were included within the first 13@ characters so that they can be read
when someone sees your title in the search results.

5one of the words or phrases in the beginning of the title on the right really describes any of
the main benefits of the product. The best benefit of this product is that it turns vegetables into
tasty pastaFlike dishes. Dou7re allowed up to 3,@@@ characters for your title, but it7s really
recommended that you don7t take full advantage of that. *hen you have a long title such as
this, it pushes your bulleted list down beneath the fold, meaning that people will have to scroll
down to read the rest of them. Dou want to use your title to get people to click on your listing
within the results page, but once you get them to your product page, you really want them to
look at your bullet points.
Ama'on used to only allow 3@@ characters per bullet point. They have recently changed that
and updated their documentation to allow 3,@@@ characters per line. That7s huge. Ama'on did
that because they know once people start scrolling down below the fold, you7ve probably lost
them and they probably won7t buy that product. ,o, be sure to use these bullet points and
include plenty of benefits and keywords within them.

Ama'on, the default sort is LRelevance7. Dou can also sort your results by L5ew and Popular7,
LPrice4 Low to !igh7, LPrice4 !igh to Low7, and LAvg. $ustomer Review7. !owever, you don7t have
to choose one of these, and most people don7t when they perform a search. ,o, they go with
the default, which is LRelevance7.
*hat does that mean. !ow do you calculate relevance. That was really the Kuestion that #
had in my mind that day. +!ow do you figure out if a listing is relevant to a keyword search.-
#f someone did a search on Ama'on using the words Lspiral slicer7 which listings would be most
relevant and why. All of the listings that contained that keyword would come up, of course,
but there could be 3,@@@ pages. !ow does Ama'on know which ones to put on the first page.
!ow do they know what listing should be the very first one. *hat eAactly is relevance.
The chart above spells out eAactly what Lrelevance7 is in terms of a keyword search on Ama'on.
According to it, relevance comes down to4

This means that if you want your product to rank for a particular keyword, the more often that
keyword appears in the description the better. The same is true for keywords in your title.
!ow closely your keywords appear within your descriptions. ,o, if it7s a two or threeFword
keyword, then the closer those keywords are to each other in the description, the better your
listing is going to rank for those keywords.
The last criterion in the list is the real gem, however. #t says +the relevance of your product
listing to a particular keyword has to do with how often customers purchase the product
through that keyword.-
That means when someone purchases a product after using a particular keyword like Lspiral
slicer7, for eAample, the keyword is taken note of by Ama'on. The more times that happens,
the better the product ranks for that keyword. Dou can see that Ama'on takes note of this
because the keyword phrase is added to the product7s IRL when someone clicks on the link.

*hen a person then purchases the item, Ama'on relates that item with the keyword that you
used to search for it. Every time this happens the product is ranked higher for the keyword
used because that product is more relevant for that keyword. That7s because Ama'on assumes
that if customers buy a particular product over and over again after searching for a particular
product, they must have found eAactly what they were looking for with that product.
Therefore, that product is highly relevant to that keyword.
