My name is Sifu
James McNeil and I
studied with Master
Ralph Shun from 1973
to 1977. The reason I
am writing this is be-
cause I am tired of hear-
ing inaccurate facts and
stories about my teach-
ers and other teachers.
The other day I went
online to see what facts
and stories might be
found in cyberspace. I
researched facts about
my teachers to check the
accuracy of what people
were stating. When I
looked up Master Ralph
Shun, I was very disap-
pointed that there was
really nothing about
him, his kung fu skills
and his kindness. Mas-
ter Shun was not only a
kung fu teacher. He
was an educator (taught
elementary school), a
family man and a great
friend to many.

The sad thing about
our society today is that
when a master of kung
fu dies, many men and
women from all over the
world come out of the
woodwork and claim
that they had studied
from the great master.
They may have a pic-
ture with the master
but they never even
practiced with him. Or
perhaps they took a
class for a month or a
year and claim the mas-
ter taught him/her eve-
rything.
While researching
Master Shuns legacy, I
found some teachers
with certificates with
Master Shuns signa-
ture. Having been a
student of Master
Shuns I recognized that
the signature was
forged. Chinese mas-
ters are not stupid.
They will teach you the
basics for years to see if
you are worthy of his/
her knowledge. They
will test your loyalty,
respect, temperament,
endurance, and your
honesty. Traditionally,
a master will test a stu-
dents patience for many
years before his guarded
secrets.
For every great mas-
ter, no matter how kind
and generous, there will
always be people who
have nothing to do but
say bad things about the
master. Perhaps they
are jealous of the mas-
ters knowledge and
skills or they dont know
the master at all.
Yes, I have been for-
tunate to have had great
teachers and I have
been very honored for
my opportunity to have
been accepted by them
as their student.
Master Ralph Shun was
born in Honolulu, Ha-
waii on March 3, 1934.
He left this world on
January 18, 2002.

In his 68 years, he accom-
plished much and mastered
the art of kung fu.
Born in Hawaii, Ralph
Shun started learning kung fu
in 1949. His first master was
Gu Faat. From Wong, Master
Shun learned the Unicorn
style. I was not exposed to
Shuns Unicorn system. Ac-
cording to Sifu Gary Gee
(system inheritor of Master
Shuns kung fu), the Unicorn
style is an esoteric Hakka sys-
tem that attacks the center-
line. The practitioner is
taught to preemptively seize
the centerline position using
ma bu. The Unicorn system
primarily targets the eyes,
throat and groin. When I
spoke to Gary Gee, he men-
tioned that only recently did he
meet (online) another student
who practiced this unpubli-
cized kung fu form.
In 1952, a family friend
introduced Shun to the Sil
Lum Fut Ga Grandmaster,
Lum Dai Yong. During the
1950s, kung fu instructors
would only teach ethnic Chi-
nese students. In addition to
teaching only Chinese, Lum
had to interview potential stu-
dents along with their parents.
In the interview, Lum Dai
Yong noticed that the family
name Shun was the same as
Sun. Lum asked Ralphs par-
ents if they were related to
Sun Yat Sen. (Sun Yat Sen
was the first president of the
Republic of China. Interest-
ingly, there is a kung fu movie
called Bodyguards and Assas-
sins that is loosely based on
the story of Suns revolution. )
Shuns parents told Lum Dai
Yong that Sun Yat Sen was a
distant cousin. Lum then dis-
closed that he was the personal
bodyguard of the first presi-
dent of the Republic of China.
According to Gary Gee,
while in Hawaii, Ralph also
studied Tai Chi Chuan from
Andrew Lum (author of
Combat Tai Chi). Ralph
Shun was a well-rounded per-
son. He attended Farrington
High School in Hawaii and
graduated with honors. Then
he went on to Honolulu Chris-
tian College and after graduat-
ing, he enlisted in the Air Na-
tional Guard. He moved to
California in 1960 to obtain his
teachers credential. With his
credential, Shun become an
instructor with the El Monte
school district and taught for
35 years.
In 1961, Ralph Shun met
the late Grandmaster of Ng Ga
Kuen (Five Family System),
Ark Yuey Wong. Grandmaster
Wong asked Ralph to show
him his form. Ralph demon-
strated the Sil Lum Fut Ga
Butterfly (Wudip) form. Wong
realized Ralph was no begin-
ner and was experienced in
martial arts. Wong accepted
Ralph as his student. Ralph
Shun became Grandmaster
Wongs private student. Ark
Wongs family was living in
Hong Kong during this period.
Ralph lived with Ark Wong
during this time and become
his assistant. In return, Wong
taught Ralph the inner work-
ings of Ng Ga Kuen. These
were the secrets of kung fu
that are usually taught only to
family members.
With Grandmaster Wongs
permission and suggestion, Si-
fu Ralph Shun opened his first
kung fu school in Huntington
Park, CA. in 1967. After the
passing of Ralph Shuns father,
his mother moved to the main-
land to live with him. Shuns
time became limited so he
turned over his school to his
student Haumea Lefiti.
In 1970 he opened his se-
cond school in Los Angeles.
Master Shuns skill became
well known in the kung fu
community. Students from
various parts of the country
and even foreign students
sought out Master Shun to
learn from him.
Interestingly, in the pilot epi-
sode of the 1970s television se-
ries Kung Fu, Ralph Shun
was selected as one of the five
masters who demonstrated au-
thentic kung fu. Shun demon-
strated the Crane form in the
pilot episode.

Little Nine Heaven Internal Page 2
From 1980 to 2000 he taught
privately in his home. His most
advanced and private student
was his brother-in-law, Gary
Gee. Over a twenty-seven year
period, Master Shun taught Gee
privately. Shun handed down
all of his secrets of kung fu to
his brother-in-law making Mas-
ter Gary Gee the system inheri-
tor of Ralph Shuns kung fu.
Master Ralph Shun was fea-
tured in two Inside Kung Fu
magazine articles.
Additionally, in the early
1970s, Black Belt Magazine fea-
tured an article comparing kick-
ing techniques of various mar-
tial arts. Ark Yuey Wong and
Ralph Shun demonstrated the
kicking techniques of kung fu.
In 1975 he married to
Shirley Yee Gee. Shirleys
brother, Gary Gee, was a stu-
dent at Ark Y. Wongs kung fu
school. According the Gary
Gee, Ralph was Ark Wongs as-
sistant instructor when Gee
enrolled. Shun took a liking to
Gee. After Ark Wongs classes
would end, Shun would lock up
the school after students left.
It was during this time that
Ralph started teaching Gee pri-
vately. Shirley, being eight
years older than Gary, would
come and pick up her brother
after class. It was during this
time that Ralph met Shirley.

After marrying, he purchased
and home in Orange County
(California). He then closed his
school in Los Angeles and start-
ed a school in Anaheim (a major
city in Orange County). Ralph
and Shirley had two children.
David Shun was born 1976.
Then in 1978, Shirley gave birth
to Janell, a beautiful little girl.
portant muscle/organ - the one they
have the most fun with, the one that
is most useful, the muscle/organ
that is keeping us healthy, happy
and strong, and that is their sexual
organ. Why? The Shih-Shui exer-
cise is the most powerful exercise
there is that does this and more and
is very simple to do, if taught cor-
rectly; and most importantly, it is
natural with no side effects.
The ancient Taoists respected
sex as a great source of positive
healing energy and understood its
role in creating and maintaining
good health and fulfillment. If our
sexual organs are strong, we will
have a profound feeling of well-
being, pleasure, strength, and good
health. The strongest energy that we
possess is sexual energy. Our bod-
ies need sexual energy to keep us
strong and healthy well into our
90s.

Throughout the years, I have
traveled to many countries teaching
Shih-Shui for men and women.
Some have learned from other
teachers and some have not. The
thing that saddens me is that the
men and women who learned from
other teachers, such as ones in
Ukraine, Russia, Thailand, Japan,
and the United States learned it
wrong and never received the true
benefits of this beautiful and power-
ful training. This beautiful training
cannot be learned in one day or
even one week, but it is a lifelong
commitment.
There are many people out
there today teaching this training of
Shih-Shui but calling it by other
names. My master, Chiao Chang-
Hung, brought this system from
China to Taiwan and even wrote a
book on it. Many Chinese have read
his book and are now teaching it
incorrectly.

Many people in our society are
prudish about genitals. This prudery
has resulted in narrow minded peo-
ple such as the church and some
parents who claim that anything
that has to do with the genitals is
taboo.
We go to various health clubs
to tone our external bodies so we
can look good, but seldom do we
give a thought about toning our in-
ternal organs. Weight lifters - men
and women, strengthen every part
of their bodies except the most im-

er than ever before.
What Is Shih-Shui?
Shih-Shui (pronounced she-
sway), also known as Bone Marrow
Washing, is a component of the an-
cient Taoist Little Nine Heaven sys-
tem which originated in China over
2000 years ago. Shih-Shui is an ad-
vanced form of chi-kung/nei-kung
that focuses on strengthening the
internal body and increasing sexual
energy with the goal of optimizing
and preserving the health of the
body, mind, and spirit. It consists
primarily of a series of special
breathing and strengthening exercis-
es along with specific energy circula-
tion techniques. Although swing
weights is a component of this sys-
tem, it is not the only exercise. Both
men and women will learn a few
massage exercises involving the
scrotum and vulva, along with chi-
kung exercises to strengthen the in-
ternal organs. Then comes the appli-
cation of swinging weights that are
tightened to the connecting base of
the male scrotum; the total weight is
gradually increased over time. Testi-
cle exercises are an important part of
the Shih-Shui training. For the wom-
an, chi-kung exercises and the vulva
massage are necessary, followed by
the swinging of weights which are
tied to the jade egg and then inserted
into the vagina; the weights are in-
creased with time. Any adult man or
woman can learn and gain the bene-
fits of Shih-Shui.

How Long Does It Take to Learn?
Shih-Shui is always taught on a
personal and private basis so that
instruction can be tailored to the spe-
cific needs of the individual thereby,
maximizing its potential benefits.
The Shih-Shui training starts with at
least 2 weeks of daily sessions with a
qualified instructor. A total initial
commitment of 100 consecutive days
of training will be required after
which this vital program should be
integrated as a regular aspect of
ones health and fitness routine.
Over the last twenty years, the
world has seen tremendous medical
advances. As medicine advances fur-
ther, so does the average life expec-
tancy of its inhabitants. The quality
of life achieved in later years is both
a concern and a goal sought by every
man and woman, wealthy or poor.
Afflictions and ever increasing health
care costs are the challenge faced by
all. During the last decade there have
been many scientific advances in
dealing with the human aging pro-
cess. The Taoists from the Little
Nine Heaven Wu Tao system have
practiced this system for thousands
of years, not only for combat but also
to prevent diseases and to delay the
aging process. The Little Nine Heav-
en system includes special exercises
older than Tai Chi Chuan called Shih
-Shui Kung (She Sway) (Bone Mar-
row Washing). These unique exercis-
es have been taught in secret for over
20 generations. We hypothesize that
these exercises will have an excep-
tional effect on both the endocrine
system and male and female sex hor-
mones. The reason for the secrecy is
because they have been considered
somewhat esoteric. In more con-
servative cultures they can be seen as
taboo and therefore rejected. With
the increased research on the im-
portance of sex hormones, testos-
terone and estrogen, a direct correla-
tion has been found between these
hormones and aging as well as dis-
eases associated with aging.
We all possess an energy life
force known as chi (pronounced
chee) and we have the power to
harness our chi for healing. You can
discover how to utilize the medicine
within your own body by using your
energy (chi), your mind, your sexual
energy, and some muscles. Through
easy to understand teachings, you
will learn to create balance within
yourself and your surroundings.
For a woman, these exercises
will strengthen and tighten the vagi-
nal muscles, which can greatly en-
hance her sexual pleasure. It will also
have the effect of putting energy into
the ovaries and vagina, making her
arousal and orgasm easier to achieve.
Shih-Shui can also help women build
up the estrogen level in their bodies,
and will increase bone density. This
training can prevent vagina prolapse,
the condition in which pelvic organs
such as the uterus, bladder, urethra,
and sometimes the vagina wall itself
begin to protrude through the vagina.
Often, with traditional medicine, ma-
jor surgical procedures such as a hys-
terectomy are required to alleviate
these serious conditions. Yet through
the practice of Shih-Shui, many
women may find that these radical
treatments can be eliminated.
Why is Shih-Shui so Effective?
Shih-Shui works directly on are-
as of the body that are often neglect-
ed or ignored completely. Shih-Shui
is a holistic discipline that can help
the practitioner to attain elevated
functioning and harmony of the body
and mind. Benefits are usually felt
within the first two weeks of train-
ing.
Sexual energy is the strongest
energy we have within our bodies. It
keeps us healthier and happier and it
can also prevent us from sickness
and disease. By circulating this pow-
erful sexual energy through our bod-
ies we may stay stronger and healthi-
and its a shame everyone doesnt
know these secrets, I feel
extremely privileged and lucky to
have found such a wonderful teach-
er with such remarkable
knowledge.

Womans Experience C
There are many aspects to culti-
vating sexual energy and by practic-
ing the Taoist exercises taught
by Sifu and outlined in his "Ancient
Lovemaking" book, any woman can
improve strength and increase ener-
gy. I enjoy the daily chi-kung prac-
tice and meditation, as well as
breathing exercises.
Meditating keeps me centered
and often provides clarity or insights
into challenging
situations. I studied Shih-Shui for
women and this powerful bone mar-
row washing technique not only im-
proves muscle strength and control,
but keeps the body young. Even
though I do not always do the
swinging, the exercises alone, such
as breathing, Eagle Grasping and
Phoenix Perching provide enormous
benefit. Only doing these breathing
and chi-kung exercises is a workout
and I become very hot and perspire.
I recommend all women to try at
least the sucking up exercises which
can strengthen a woman's muscles
for bladder control and also greater
sexual pleasure. When practicing
these various sexual energy cultiva-
tion techniques and exercises I feel
stronger, energized and more deeply
connected with myself, my partner
and the universe.
When the internal and external
elements of the body work in har-
mony, the balance of yin (female)
and yang (male) is complete. Sim-
ple chi-kung exercises may be per-
formed by people of all ages and
fitness levels. Daily practice culti-
vates chi, improves mental and
physical health, nurtures creativity,
and elevates the spirit. I have been
teaching and practicing these exer-
cises for over thirty years. I do not
remember the last time I was se-
verely ill and I have witnessed many
students, young and old, overcome
illnesses through dedication and at-
tention to their practice. Each indi-
viduals journey is different. Release
yourself from the burden of external
limitations, timelines, and artificial
results.
A student of Shih-Shui strives
to unite his/her physical and chi or
spiritual bodies as one. The system
of Shih-Shui consists of three levels:
transferring the ching (sperm) to the
chi; transferring the chi to the shen
(spirit); and cultivating the shen to
return to the stage of shu
(emptiness). By cultivating this chi
into a higher form, one will be in
harmony with nature and the uni-
verse.
The many health benefits of
Shih-Shui include chi organ restora-
tion, organ detoxification and nour-
ishment of the vital organs through
chi energy generation and storage.
One can cleanse and build the
blood, thus causing a reduction of
the work the heart must do. The
bone marrow will also be revitalized
and bone density increased.

Womans Experience A
Shih-Shui has been a signifi-
cant part of my life since 2003. As a
result of the different aspects
of the Shih-Shui training I have ex-
perienced only benefits, both in in-
creasing specific and overall
health and in training and enhancing
the sexual organs and health of the
endocrine system. One aspect of the
Shih-Shui training has increased
bone density in areas of my limbs
that previously were weak and had
caused me pain - which was an un-
expected benefit. Additionally of
course, is the increasingly positive
sexual pleasure that is a well-spring
from giving healthy attention to sen-
suality and sexuality and the role
they play in our lives. Like any part
of the human being that one gives
regular training and care to, Shih-
Shui is a prime example of the
bodys ability to experience in-
creased health of the female sexual
organs and consequently free the
body to experience unimaginable
pleasure that grows and ripens over
the years. It is with thanks to my
Shih-Shui training that this has been
my experience.

Womans Experience B
Very often in life people are
searching for something more but
dont exactly know what. Often
people stray from loved ones be-
cause they dont feel satisfied. Sifu
taught me the technique pompoir
which truly enhanced our love life.
It is a shame that so many dont re-
alize the answer is actually very
simple. Sifu has taught me so many
things but for me his love making
teaching and the knowledge it has
given me is a true gift.
Learning Shih Suih has helped
me to understand more about my
body and how I can keep it strong
and healthy and more sensitive,
which benefits me in love making. I
have learned how lots of areas of
my body when touched in the right
way can make me aroused quickly
and how this benefits us as a couple.
Sifu is a very special teacher
