TU30003 - PENGAJARAN BAHASA INGGERIS AWAL KANAK-KANAK
CONTEXT
Pre-school class at my school consists of twenty-five students. It is a remote school with almost all societies in the school environments work as farmers or rubber tappers. At home, they use their mother tongue to communicate with their families and their neighborhood and only when they are in school will they communicate using the Malay language. English Language is strange language for them and this situation causes the problems that the students encounter in learning the English Language.
DILEMMA
In learning English, most of the students have difficulties in mastering the vocabulary. This may occur due to the students' background as they use their mother tongue in their daily communication and just use the Malay language in school but the usage is estimated that only 70 % only. Thus English is the third language for them, due to this, it resulted to decrease the pupils concerned during learning process.
SOLUTION
To solve this problem, the proposed method is the use of teaching children songs in teaching English. Students will be taught to sing children's songs using song chart display until the pupils can actually memorize the song. The children will be taught to sing songs accompanied by music to get the right rhythm and duration. A few well-chosen words to be emphasized more and the teacher will explain the meanings of the word in the Malay language to enhance the students understanding and remember the meaning of the words. The children's song should be one of the pre- school routine in their daily learning activities.

RESPONSE
I shared this problem with my colleague, they have also agreed with the way that has been proposed to overcome learning problems faced by students. Learning through song is one of the most preferred methods by all children. They do not get bored and always wanted to participate enthusiastically. But apart from that, they have proposed two approaches that are also found to be very effective in helping to control students in teaching English. The first method is to use the word cards by labeling each materials and equipment that available in the classroom. This will help students identify the names of the devices in English. The second method is involving ICT skills. Teaching using ICT such as matching pictures of animal, objects or whatever fits the words that describe the pictures name. Students' interest in learning English is improved better with the use of ICT. However, this method is quite difficult for schools that were due to be in the remote locations.
