For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning
to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius[a] for the day
and sent them into his vineyard. 3 About nine in the morning he went out and saw
others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, You also go and
work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right. 5 So they went. He went
out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing.
6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He
asked them, Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?
7 Because no one has hired us, they answered. He said to them, You also go and work in my vineyard.8 When evening came,
the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and
going on to the first. 9 The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when
those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they
received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12 These who were hired last worked only one hour, they said, and
you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day. 13 But he answered one of
them, I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didnt you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the
one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Dont I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you
envious because I am generous? 16 So the last will be first, and the first will be last.
Shuttle Tournament
Syro Malabar Cultural Academy is organizing a Shuttle tournament. The event will be on Saturday, Oct 18th @ 9:00
AM. The games will be in doubles format. Please register your names with Bijoy Kappan (630 656 7336), John Varkey

Today our vicar Mar Joy Alappatt moves to Bishops house and the new vicar
Rev. Dr. Augustine Palackaparambil takes the charge as the vicar of our
Cathedral.
Advanced faith formation also known as Adult CCD begins today 9.30 to
10.30. Classes will be in the Chavara hall.
Next Sunday we celebrate the feast of St Tresa of Lissiux
Next Sunday St. Josephs seminary staff and students will visit our church.
The process to buy the Land adjacent to our Grotto has been completed. Let us thank the Lord
for getting that land at a reduced price and we wish to convert and use it for parking purpose.
St. Tomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago is implementing the Charter for the
Protection of Children and Young People mandated by United States Conference of Catholic
Bishops. A Key element of this charter is to provide "Safe Environment" training to all diocesan
clergy/employees/teachers/volunteers/parents/children.
Clergy/employees/volunteers: Must attend "Protecting God's Children" a Virtus program.
Te last session was in August and future session dates will be published in coming weeks.
All CCD students attend age appropriate Safe Environment training sessions. Tis is already
arranged.
All others must attend Safe Environment awareness. We have arranged 2 training sessions for
parents in our church on Sunday, October 12, 2014 (9:20am & 10:15am - each session is 30
minutes long). Registration happens at the training session.

Thanks to all for your support and cooperation that made the Episcopal ordination of Bishop Mar Joy
Alappat a great success.
First class of adult faith formation is on October 05, 2014. Thanks to all parents who have registered online.
Those who have not registered may register during the class hours on October 5th. Paper registration
forms will be available during the class. If you have any questions, please contact SRE
* CAMPUS MINISTRY: SMYO has organized campus programming for our college students at
University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana which includes small group discussion, fellowship
nights and weekly attendance of Holy Mass. SMYO will continue to organize campus program-
ming in Chicago and other universities where our college students attend. In the coming mon-
ths, SMYO will host a College Summit for our college student leaders
* YOUNG WOMEN FELLOWSHIP NIGHT: SMYO will be hosting a young women fellowship night in
the coming months. More updates to be announced soon
* SYROMALABAR NATIONAL YOUNG ADULTS GATHERING: During Columbus Day weekend, our
St. Thomas Diocese Youth Apostolate (DYA) will be hosting a national young adults & young
couples gathering in Chicago. Over 60 young adult leaders from across the United States will
attend a 4-day program which includes their role in our parish and diocese. We graciously
welcome them to the Cathedral-Parish.
