Fashion, Merchandising and Marketing FMM Participants may be challenged to provide insight into marketing, management functions, and operations in: retail establishments, wholesale fashion establishments and manufacturing firms primarily engaged in the marketing of clothing and related articles for personal wear and adornment.
Financial Services BFS Participants may be challenged to provide analytical insight in regard to financial institutions such as commercial banks, savings and loan associations, credit agencies, credit unions, consumer-finance companies, collection agencies, security and commodity brokerages, institutional marketing, lending risk management, and credit departments of business enterprises. They are given the opportunity to analyze a real-world case situation that deals with accounting/financial business activity between organizations and to present solutions to a professional (judge) with experience in finance and/or accounting.
Human Resources Management HRM Participants are given the opportunity to analyze a real-world human resource management case situation and to present solutions to a professional (judge) with experience in the human resource management field. Participants may be challenged to incorporate best practices of marketing new human resource policies within a firms organizational structure.
Restaurant & Food Service Management RFSM Participants may be challenged to provide insight into marketing, management functions, and operations in: a restaurant or a food service business; a business enterprise primarily engaged in providing lodging, food and beverage services, special events, and meeting space.
Retail Management RM Participant may be challenged to provide insight into marketing, management functions, and tasks in any retail establishment. They are given the opportunity to analyze a real-world case situation that deals with a single or multiple aspects within the retail scope. Examples of retail topics could include: the promotional mix within a store, increasing sales, vendor strategies, or distribution to consumers.
Travel Management TM Participants may be challenged to provide insight into marketing, management functions, and tasks in any business enterprise primarily engaged in satisfying the desire of people to make productive or enjoyable use of travel services. This could mean that the category centers around a travel agency, airline, or web platform that provides travel services (i.e. itravel 2000)
Accounting ACT Participants are given the opportunity to analyze a real-world case situation that deals with accounting/business activity within an organization (s) and to present solutions to a professional with experience in accounting and financial services. The accounting category will be generalized and include basic calculations, formulas, ratios.
Management Consulting MCO Based on feedback from the 2012-2013 Executive Council and delegation, DECA U is excited to introduce this new competitive category to Provincials 2014. This individual category will serve as further appeal and motivation for additional science, arts, and non-business students to come out to DECA Us Provincial conference. MCO will be judged by industry professionals that are familiar with the overall consulting scope and specialize in management consulting.

Sports and Entertainment SEM Participants are given the opportunity to analyze a real-world sports and entertainment (concerts, theaters, etc.) marketing case situation, by presenting solutions to a professional with experience in sports and entertainment marketing.
Marketing Management MM Participants are given the opportunity to analyze a real-world merchandising management case situation and to present solutions to a professional with experience in merchandising and sales management. Environments may include, without being limited to, place/location marketing, transportation marketing, sports/entertainment marketing, charity/event marketing, marketing research, strategic marketing planning, distribution strategies, or target marketing.
International Marketing INT Participants may be challenged to perform marketing and management functions and tasks in any business enterprise primarily engaged in satisfying the desire of people to make productive or enjoyable use of services, at a global marketing perspective. This category could include the incorporation of different forms of businesses used in the international market (e.g. joint ventures, strategic alliances)
Business to Business B2B Participants are given the opportunity to analyze a real-world case situation that zooms in on interactions with two or more businesses. This case could include legal aspects, partnership details, and steps necessary for effective relationship building between two or more firms. Judges for this category are specialists in these types of operations and tend to frequently work with other businesses on a frequent basis.

Innovation Challenge IC The Innovation Challenge provides competitors in this special event with the opportunity to offer ground breaking solutions through research and strategy. The Challenge may include developing business plans, improving outdated strategies, or taking a product to new heights. Thus, the Innovation Challenge provides prospective partner(s) with the ability to receive first hand analysis and hire prospective employees that could spearhead the relevant innovation proposed. Innovation Challenge (IC) differs from Advertising Campaign (ADC) because this special event can encompass all organizational facets (finance, accounting, HR, marketing, etc.). While, ADC tends to typically focus on entrepreneurship and marketing.
Quiz Bowl DQB A unique team style event, Quiz Bowl, is a rapid-fire test of organization and general knowledge. Each university submits a team of 4 to compete in a pressurized, highly energetic, and Jeopardy-style competition where the fastest team to respond correctly gains the points and the prestige.
Case Boss BOSS In an unprecedented showcase of our members astonishing talent, the top 3 competitors from each of DECA Us university and college chapters will form a team to represent their school in the most comprehensive, grueling, and formidable competitive event that DECA U has ever offered. The Case Boss Challenge will provide competitors with an elevated case experience through a contextual challenge that combines three unique case studies: Finance/ Accounting, Marketing, and Human Resource Management. This sweeping challenge will test its competitors abilities to drill-down on function-specific issues, while integrating solutions across an entire organization.
Advertising Campaign ADC Competitors will have an opportunity to stretch their creativity in teams of 1-3 members by strategically constructing a campaign for one of our sponsoring partners clients through a real-life simulation of the advertising industry (also touches on entrepreneurship and marketing). The creative brief designed by our sponsoring partner will be distributed to the competing teams approximately one month prior to the competition. During our Provincials conference, teams will pitch their full written campaign proposal for the client that is prepared within the briefs parameters. A panel of judges will decide which campaign, if implemented, would be most successful for their clients brand.
