A Report on the Angpau Festival Performance in IPG Gaya
An annual activity of the Chinese Language Society Angpau Festival, was held on the 18 th of January 2012. It was held in the main hall of the Gaya Teachers Training Institute. The primary objective of the event was to celebrate the Chinese New Year event earlier. Besides, it was also held to enhance the relationships between members of the society and also searching for talented new members. It was held also to fulfill the demands of the audiences from the past events and also acts as an open-day to allow the society to understand more about the institute. The event was planned since July 2011 and a committee was formed for the event. The committee was guided by lecturers. Leaders of each group had meetings among each other and meetings among leaders with members in each group were help too. A practicing schedule was planned and all groups practices according to the schedule. There were 5 times of rehearsal altogether. The comments and advices of lecturers were also taken into account. In order to publish the event, publicity effort had been made. Invitation cards were sent to all lecturers throughout the institute to invite them to the event. To make sure that everything was going on as planned, a final meeting had taken place among the committee with all performers. During the main day of the event, all performers got to the venue much earlier to have a final audition. After that, they were off to get ready. At 7.00pm, audiences started entering the hall and then it was followed by the directors arrival. The chairperson of the Chinese Society gave speech and so do the director. The event started after the officiating of the event by the director. Performances started at 8.00pm and ended at 9.00pm. The event was very successful as performers were confident while performing. They managed to perform error-free performances and were cheered by the crowds. Many performers were satisfied with their own performances. The time flow of the event was smooth as planned on the schedule. Audiences and lecturers gave good feedbacks. Some of them even said that the event was interesting as always and again they hoped that we will be holding events like this in the future. On the other hand, we found some weaknesses which are to be corrected in the future. The ventilation in the hall was poor because of the air-conditioning system was faulty. The halls seating capacity was too small causing lack of seats. Besides, due to the geography of the institute, we faced a major problem which was lack of car parks. Some audiences suggested that a short break to be included in between the event. Some suggestions and ways were taken into consideration to allow other events in the future to be better. We should try to hold such events in a rented hall which includes larger seating capacity and air-conditioned hall. We shall also find a suitable hall with more parking spaces and RELA personals to control the traffic so that it will not cause traffic congestions in the future events. A short break of 10 minutes will be included into the time flow of the future events so that it does not seem to be packed and rushed.
