Graduate Engineer Trainee: Job Description: A Graduate Engineer Trainee is a fresh recruit from an institute who utilizes his concept, principles and theories learnt in the college life to familiarize him with the work environment of the organization and learn about different roles and responsibilities in the organization through hands-on training and projects. 1. Education and Certification: B.E/ B.Tech. from an engineering institute M.E/ M.Tech 2. IT skills: Should be familiar with basics of MS Office software like Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. Spreadsheets Knowledge of CAD software (Knowledge is an added advantage) KRAs of a Graduate Engineer Trainee: 1. Technical Knowledge: Understand and apply basic concepts learnt during the Bachelors or Masters degree. Analyze the functions of various machines and interpret their usage, benefits and limitations. 2. Project Management: Work under different divisions and learn basic functioning through small projects. Understand the working of the divisions in the company carry out a critical analysis. Communicate with different line managers and managers of different divisions to find the root cause of the problems assigned and solve them within stipulated time. 3. Regulations: Abide by the rules of the organization related to the safety, discipline and behavioral aspects. Understand the norms, rules and regulation prevailing in the automobile industry. Competency Model: 1. Problem Solving: Able to identify and define the problem statement properly. Analyze and achieve the root cause of the problem through observations, logics, tests or communication with experts etc. Examine the various options available on various parameters and come up with a plausible solution. Act on agreed course of action. If action not possible, recommend the solution to the manager in-charge. 2. Communication: Able to listen and understand the problem and ability to analyze it in depth. Present the recommended solution in an easy, comprehensive and lucid format. Understand the key deliverables and able to communicate it to the stakeholders properly. 3. Creativity: Able to come up with a creative and out of the box solution. LINE MANAGER: A line manager examines the processes happening on the line and ensures that the processes and production schedule is followed. He coordinates with managers of different departments to work out a feasible production schedule maintaining an optimum quality and quantity of vehicles produced. 1. Education and Certification: Bachelors / Masters degree in Engineering with relevant experience. Diploma/ MBA from a management institute in Operations 2. IT skills: Should be familiar with basics of MS Office software like Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. Spreadsheets Knowledge of CAD software (Knowledge is an added advantage) KRAs of a Line Manager: 1. Production Scheduling: Coordinate with managers of different divisions and chalk out a feasible production schedule. Manage the processes on the line and ensure the production is as per the schedule. Take care of the quality of vehicles produced out of the line. Ensure that all the work is completed on line and there is minimum rework. Ensure the logistics of different materials fitted on the line from various agencies, suppliers and departments. Maintain a proper inventory level as per the production schedule. 2. Increase Efficiency of Line: Identify bottlenecks in the line and try to minimize them. Map the weak areas or areas from where maximum defects occur and try to resolve the issues. Ensure proper machines are used and maintained timely. 3. Manpower Scheduling: Proper scheduling of Manpower on the basis of requirement, availability and skills. Transfer of manpower from one station to other in case of a need without hampering the production schedule. Motivate employees to take lesser number of holidays and prevent low attendance on particular days by scheduling their leaves. 4. Project Management: Take up different projects relevant to the line in terms of increasing quality and quantity (efficiency) Minimize the costs of production by taking up small improvement schemes on the line. Consult and communicate with the workers working on line to know about the problems faced by them and try to resolve the same. 5. Training and Development: Take proper training or certification programs to improve skills. Engage and motivate employees working under to do necessary training. Coordinate with training division to demand for the training required for the people working on line. Competency Model: 1. Achievements of target: Maintain a steady and optimum production schedule. Increasing of the efficiency of the line. Performance in various projects undertaken. Generate saving through Value Engineering and reduction of production costs as per the target. 2. Communication: Communication with managers of different department to schedule the production a well as the logistics. Convey the problems occurring on the line to the relevant department. Analyze and procure new and better technology for the line to increase quality and quantity. 3. Project Management/ Execution: Manage different projects undertaken in a particular year and ensure their completion. Execute the recommended steps as early as possible Achieve operational and qualitative efficiency. Design Engineer: Job Description: A design Engineer designs on CAD and tests different parts of the vehicle or the vehicle itself. He/ She takes feedback from other departments like Quality, Service and Production regarding fitment and failure and try to improve the product accordingly. It is also expected to increase the efficiency of the existing product from him/ her. 1. Education and Certification: Bachelor in Engineering (B.E./ B.Tech) Masters in Engineering (M.E./ M.Tech) 2. IT Skills: CAD software knowledge: i. CATIA ii. AUTOCAD iii. ANSYS Basic knowledge of office software like Word, Powerpoint and Excel. KRAs of a Design Engineer: 1. Technical Knowledge: Professional degree in designing parts and models. Favourable qualitative and aesthetic outcomes of the designed products. 2. Design Planning: Engage imagination, think creatively, innovate and provide design leadership Awareness of contemporary issues relevant to the existing designs and how they may be integrated into new designs Ensure design complies with scope of work and contract requ irements. Collaborate with and lead other specialists in the field as required Develop conceptual soft and hard designs Use the conceptual design to prepare final drawings and technical specifications 3. Regulations: Aware of various norms, rules and regulations of the automobile industry regarding environment, compliance and regulatory issues. 4. Project Management: Consult with production, service and quality managers about the limitations of a design and the problematic areas. Capture the failures of the designed parts and analyze them to come up with a better design. Optimize the existing design in terms of material, weight and quality. Offer solutions to other departments with respect to fitment and usage of a part. Monitor the designed parts closely in terms of quality, progress and costs as closely as possible. Competency Model: 1. Design details and drawings: Understand design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical parts, assemblies, drawings, and models Develop conceptual designs from which detailed design drawings and technical specifications are prepared Analyze the problem areas in the vehicles and make suitable designs as per requirements and deliverables. 2. Project Management/ Execution: Use of various CAD software for checking the feasibility of the design Identify various limitations of designs and convey that to the stakeholders. Get data from the failures occurring in the vehicles and change/ modify the design. Work to create a quality product, free from defects Evaluate older components and suggest changes wherever necessary. 3. Local Laws: Be aware of the government rules and norms regarding the vehicle and its standards. Use the information given in the codes and directories properly. Inspect and review designs for compliance with latest reviews in rules, regulations and norms. 4. Estimation: Estimate the potential costs and map it with the benefits harnessed. Analyze cost effectiveness of the designed elements and propose cheaper yet quality solutions.
Procurement Manager: A Procurement Manager deals with the suppliers of the organization and ensures the timely delivery of quality and defect free products. He/ She works closely with the Production/ Quality manager to solve the issues regarding vendor quality. Educational Qualifications: Bachelor in Engineering Master in Engineering Post Graduate in Operations Management IT Skills: Proficient in spreadsheets Basic awareness of office tools like Word, Powerpoint, Excel KRAs of a Procurement Manager: 1. Technical Knowledge: Understands the drawings properly and able to relate 2-D drawings with the actual part. Able to find out mistakes in the drawing or in the part supplied as per the fitment in the vehicle. Keep an up to date knowledge of the design reviews and changes happening in the designs. 2. Communication: Proper communication with Production and Quality Managers with respect to product quality. Proper communication with the vendor to update it with the recent developments in the organization with respect to design changes and current issues. Work with vendors to reduce their cost of production and increase efficiency. 3. Quality Assurance: Have a random checking of the lots received from the vendors in the plant. Accept / reject the lot as per the defects found. Improve the products/ parts failure and defect rate by working closely with the vendors, production and Quality Managers. Achieve the target of year on year reduction in the defective parts. 4. Timeliness: Ensure timely ordering and receipt of parts. Keep a close eye on the inventory and production schedule and plan the procurement accordingly. Competency Model: 1. Design Details: Analyze the drawings properly and suggest changes wherever necessary to the Design Team or the vendors. Should be able to critically analyze the drawings and suggest for improvement w.r.t. cost, design and quality. 2. Material Handling: Able to gauge the production schedule and make materials available from the vendors for production. Timely order of the materials from the vendors by receiving order from the production or planning team. Maintain a proper inventory to capture the fluctuation in demand based on the historical data and situations. 3. Improvement: Quality improvement in products through proper planning and vendor management. Improving the efficiency at the vendors end through proper process improvement. Improve the quality of product and the lower the rejection rate. 4. Vendor Management: Selection of vendors on the basis of their capabilities to produce and deliver qulity products within the stipulated time. Carry out process improvements at the vendors end. Regularly communicate the defects observed in the parts to the vendors and take necessary actions by analyzing the root cause. Quality Manager: Job Description: A quality manager deals with the parts that are procured and fitted in the vehicle and also the quality of the outgoing vehicle. Also the responsibility of field failures and its resolution comes under his/ her responsibilities. Process and parts improvement is also a part of his/ her job responsibility. Awareness of software like SAP KRAs of a Quality Manager: 1. Technical Knowledge: Ability to understand and interpret the parts from a given 2-D drawing. Ability to analyze the problems occurred during fitment through the basic knowledge of engineering and learning from the past. Keep an up to date knowledge of the design reviews and changes made in the part. 2. Quality Assurance: Improvement in the parts fitted on the line. Observe the basic problems of the line in terms of parts fitment and suggest a practical way to do the same. Record the parts that have the most failure rate and give suggestions to improve them and also implement ways to improve that. 3. Customer Satisfaction: Talk to consumers to capture their grievances and suggest and carry out remedial actions in collaboration with other Managers. Capture consumer needs and desires and try to implement that on line and in products through special projects. 4. Project Management: Identify grey areas of production and find the root cause. Evaluate the parts fitted in the vehicle and try to minimize their costs by suggesting alternate parts/ design/ material. Competency Model: 1. Project Execution: Set up targets and try to implement the suggested remedial action as early as possible. Gauge the activities of the line an implement efficiency boosting activities to increase production. Ensure that the parts are fitted on the line as per the process sheets. Make available the process sheet and PFMEA charts for the production on line. 2. Improvement: Analyse line activities and suggest alternate yet quicker ways to carry out the steps without compromising with quality. Develop Poka-Yoke models to ensure no wrong fitment is made. Carry out checks related to parts procured from vendors at random and ensure that first in first out system is maintained. Prevent fitment of products/ parts that are old/ expired by having a regular check in the store. 3. Value Engineering: Suggest better ways of improving the efficiency and save costs. Suggest and carry out projects with the help of other departments for cost leadership and alternative cheap materials. 4. Communication: Communicate the problems observed on the line to the respective shareholders and execute a PDCA cycle to improve. Have a good communication from the customer end to delegate and improve on their grievances. 5. Field Failures: Analyze the root cause of the field failures and carry out improvement projects. Study the old data of field failures and try to take out clues from that to reduce field failures. Have a regular communication with service managers to get an idea of the field failures occurring on the field. Reduce the repeatability of identical field failures by taking up projects. HR Manager: Job Responsibility of an HR manager: The role of an HR manager is to maintain and enhance the companys human resources through proper planning, implementing and enhancing employee relations and human resource programs, policies and practices. Educational Requirements: Diploma in Human Resource Management MBA in Human Resource Management IT skills: Well versed in office tools such as word, Powerpoint and excel. KRAs of a HR manager: 1.
