EXCELLENT RELIABILITY
AND AVAILABILITY
99 % average reliability.
HIGH EFFICIENCY
Best industrial practice
99 % efciency.
EASY TO MAINTAIN
Active parts easily accessible
during maintenance.
FLEXIBLE ARRANGEMENT
TOPGAS can be table mounted
or oor mounted.
TOPGAS leads the
eld in reliability and
efciency, thanks to its
proven design and the
consistent application of
operational experience.
Recognised as best industrial practice
If producing electricity reliably and cost effectively is your top priority, you need
look no further than the Alstom TOPGAS hydrogen-cooled turbogenerator.
The TOPGAS design is unique, with many years of experience and references. It is
beneting from a rich heritage of technology and extensive operational feedback.
TOPGAS is thus robust in design, while comprehensively meeting all requirements.
Alstoms TOPGAS turbogenerator is extremely versatile, being suitable for large
utilities as well as for the increasing number of independent power producers. With its
modular design, it is easy to transport and install on site.
TOPGAS applications include:

Conventional steam power plants

Simple and combined cycle gas turbine power plants

Combined heat and power plants

HYDROGEN COOLING SYSTEM
BUILDING OUTSTANDING
EFFICIENCY
TOPGAS is cooled with pressurised
hydrogen gas in a closed circuit.
The heat from the rotor and stator
is removed via hydrogen/water heat
exchangers within the fully sealed
casing.
The multi-chamber cooling system
enables efcient heat transfer and
uniform temperature distribution on
the stator winding and core.
This contributes to optimise efciency
& power output.
STATOR WINDING AND
SLOT WEDGING
KEY TECHNOLOGIES FOR
GREAT RESULTS
The use of Roebel bars for the dual-
layer stator windings minimises the
eddy-current losses and maximises
efciency. The windings are held in
the stator slots by double tapered
concave-convex wedges. It prevents
the slot lling from loosening & com-
pensate for the initial
settling and thermal
expansion of the
bars during
operation.
STATOR CORE
DESIGNED FOR LITTLE
MAINTENANCE
The specic design of the core end
plates enables to held the stator core
under constant axial pressure.
As a result, there is no expected
loosening of the laminations over the
entire lifetime of the machine.
The stator core is made of high-end
materials, reducing magnetic losses
and raising efciency.

MICADUR INSULATION SYSTEM
BOOSTING TOPGAS RELIABILITY
The insulation consists of a glass-bre
tape incorporating mica akes.
The taped bars are vacuum
impregnated, thermally cured and
surface protected.
MICADUR is the result of
continuous developments since the
1950s, meeting all requirements and
showing an intrinsic safety margin for
reliable operation.
ROTOR
GOING THE EXTRA MILE
The rotor has been designed to
withstand all of the forces it could be
subjected to.
Mechanical integrity is shown
through extensive material testing,
with performance and durability
being established through thermal
sensitivity tests.
STATOR END-WINDING
SUPPORT STRUCTURE
UNIQUE FEATURE FOR
INCREASED AVAILABILITY
It is axially exible to allow thermal
expansion and stiff in the radial and
tangential directions to withstand
high electromagnetic forces. The end-
winding can also be tightened during
maintenance.
