Special Guest This Weekend:
This Sunday, October 12th, William K. Koffa Pastor
of Oldest Congo Town First Baptist Church, will be
coming to share with us regarding the Ebola crisis in
Liberia. We believe that the church has historically
been the greatest force of good in the face of need.
William, his congregation, and the people of Liberia
need our help. Through this weekend, we will be
collecting medical supplies that Pastor Koffa will take
back with him on the 16th to distribute in his
congregation.
Please pick up a few of these items if you can, and
drop them off Sunday!

Thursday, October 10th at 8:00pm, the Missions
Committee will be meeting in the upper conference
room to discuss how we can start to make a greater
impact locally and globally.
Even if you arent sure if you have an interest in
Missions, I want to challenge you to come and hear
what God is doing. He might call you to something
unexpected, or spur you to share a missions idea
like Dean Ekberg did for engaging the ebola crisis in
Liberia.
Never discount what God might do through you!
Missions Meeting

We have sought after the Lord,
worshipped Him in glory,
proclaimed the truths of who He
is, and yes, we have been
challenged in the process. All
this to train us to walk with
strength in the Fear of the Lord.
The Bible tells us:
The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of knowledge; fools
despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7
And that:
In the fear of the LORD one has
strong condence, and his
children will have a refuge.
Proverbs 14:26
Therefore, walking in the Fear of
the Lord, the knowledge of the
Lord creates a condence
centered not on us, but on the
object of our faith; The Lord.
This causes us, as Christians, to
be powerful in places where we
might otherwise be fearful or
complacent.
We will go into the community
with purpose, showing the
world that Jesus is alive in us,
and that He compels us to
sacricially serve in His
glorious name.
April of this year I traveled to
Louisville, Kentucky to attend
Together for the Gospel, an
interdenominational conference
of ministries that gather around
the gospel. The focus for 2014
was on the nature, place, and
shape of the gospel in todays
culture. It should not be a shock
to any of us that in our culture
the gospel and evangelism is
being marginalized by its
opponents and, sadly, by some
liberal evangelicals.
This creates a real challenge for
Christians as evangelism
already tends to be a place that
many of us feel ill-equipped
and, at times, untested.
Because of this, we can easily
be overtaken by the pressures
and challenges that cause our
enthusiasm for the work of
evangelism to wane.
Pride cares more about what
our friends think about us than
what God thinks about our
friends and their sin and
salvation. Mark Dever, Capitol
Hill FBC
This quote from the conference
was like a knock upside the
head. God should be the total
object of our affection, and it is
our unashamed affection for
Him that should drive us
beyond the borders of our own
comfort to share the Gospel
with others.
But that doesnt mean its easy.
How do I know this?
Because, at the end of the day I
wrestle with those same fears
and frustrations you may have
in sharing the gospel. Yet, in
those places God presents for
me to share the gospel, I have
to remind myself that if I am
feeling fear or rejection then that
moment it is more about me,
and less about God and the
Gospel.
I think oftentimes we put so
much pressure on ourselves to
perform perfectly, that we forget
that what truly drives the work
of evangelism is the promises
and power of God Himself, not
us.
Kevin DeYoung reminds us of
this:
We walk into the future in God-
glorifying condence, not
because the future is known to
us, but because it is known to
God. And that's all we need to
know. Worry about the future is
not simply a character tic, it is
the sin of unbelief, an indication
that our hearts are not resting in
the promises of God.
On the second day of the
conference during a long break I
was looking at a map and
noticed that 6 blocks from my
hotel was the Louisville Slugger
Factory. Many may not know,
but I have an afnity for a good,
wooden bat, and there is none
better than a Louisville Slugger.
So, I hit the streets, walked the
6 blocks there, and purchased
an un-lacquered and fresh off
the lathe blank Louisville
Slugger bat. A classic!
As I walked out the door, I was
met by a man whom, later I
learned was named David. He
asked me for some money, and
I told him I didnt have any, just
a credit card, but that I did
have something better.
What? he asked.
Jesus, and I proceeded to
share the Gospel with him.
Now, I think it is important that
you know two things:
First, in that moment which still
brings me tears, David
accepted Jesus right there on
the corner of Main and 8th
street, and afterwards I was
blessed to share lunch with him.
Second, as God was directing
me to share, there was a
healthy amount of fear and
faith. There was not a moment
where I thought, I have totally
got this one. Instead, I kept
leaning back into Jesus who
promised He would surely be
with me in the sending work of
the Gospel, and it was there
that something marvelous
happened; David believed. It
was nothing that I did, but
everything that God has
promised He would do through
my obedience.
Thank God Jesus is Alive!
Salvation Sele with David.
