approximatenumberofpeopleineachreligion,andtheirviewonsex.

WhileIdoagreewithyouthatChristianitydidaffectthecultureandtraditionsoftheNorsepeople.Itis
importanttorealizethatthebeginningofthetransitiontowardsChristianitybeganwiththedecisionofthe
Norse.DecisionsintheGermaniccultureweredoneprimarilythroughagroupdecisionmakingprocess
whichwasduetothetribalmakeupoftheculture.TheNorsewereastrongpeopleandtendedto
conquerEnglishcommunities,whobelievedstronglyinChristianity.Afterapeoplewereconquered
atraditionwasfollowedinwhichthereligionoftheconqueredbecamethatoftheconqueror.Inother
wordstheVictor,Norse,allowedthevanquished,English,topreachtoandbaptizethem.Infact,itwasthe
VikingKingswhoultimatelydecidedtomovetowardsChristianityinordertosolidifytheirpoliticalauthority
withinthesurroundingcountries.Vikingleaderswouldsetupchurches,andhavearchbishopricscreated.
Thevikingkingswouldthenbeabletoexertsomecontroloverthesearchbishoprics,thusexertingeven
morepoweroverthesurroundingcommunity.
Atthesametime,onceChristianitybecamemorewidespreaditdidnotsimplywipeouttheNorsemythology
andtraditionsbutactuallyassimilatedwiththem.ThismadeiteasierfortheNorsepeopletoconverttoa
newcultureandreligion.ThisisthesamereasonthatmuchoftheNorsemythologycanbenotedtohave
overlapwithbeliefsinChristianity.
