The constant manufacturers claim produced across all three of Napisans products is that they remove stains from
clothes. This experiment will test these three products and their ability to remove stains from clothes. The stains will
consist of a controlled amount (15mL) of Tomato Sauce, Chocolate Sauce and Soy Sauce.

Procedure/Method (5 Marks)
1. Measure out 15mL of tomato sauce, chocolate
sauce and soy sauce into the 25mL measuring
cylinder and pour the sauces carefully into
sections across the 3 clothing fabric pieces
2. Wait an hour until the stains have set into the
clothing fabric pieces
3. Fill each bucket with 3.5L of hot water
(approximately around 30 degrees Celsius)
4. Pour 25g of each washing powder, measured
with a measuring cylinder, into each bucket
5. Place each clothing fabric piece into the
buckets and leave them for two hours
6. Take each clothing fabric piece out and
observe and identify the stain removal
The experiment followed the procedure above. The experiment was completed 4 times across 4 days, in which the
results of each day were compared. All test compounds were measured out using different sized measuring
cylinders. The three compounds used across the four days were reused from the same stock. All experiments were
conducted within room temperature (25 degrees Celsius). A control experiment was conducted simultaneously,
where the powders were not added to the clothing fabric pieces.

Safety Precautions Identified and Explained Two Needed (4 Marks)
Concentrated Powder is an eye and skin irritant avoid skin and eye contact wash if contact occurs.
Soaking Solution is a skin and eye irritant and dangerous to swallow avoid skin, eye and mouth contact wash if
contact occurs, seek first aid or medical assistance if swallowed.
The experiment was conducted in a well-ventilated room to minimise respiratory irritation and safety glasses and
gloves were worn as a preventative measure.

Observations (could not fit into table)
Throughout all trials, similar results were produced, throughout all trials, stains were removed.
Napisan Oxi-Action produced stronger/whiter results than other products
Napisan Oxi-Action Crystal White produced the second best results, while similarly, Napisan Oxi-Action
Sensitive produced the weaker results, but still removed the stain

Analysis of Results (3 Marks)
The Manufacturers Claim across all three of the Napisan washing powder products was that they all remove stains.
The experiments conducted produced the results as seen from the table above, that all products do remove stains.
The stains tested were a measured 15mL of Tomato Sauce, Chocolate Sauce and Soy Sauce. All tough stains, the
various ranges of Napisan products were able to meet the Manufacturers Claim and effectively remove all stains
across all four trials.
The results collected from all four trials were compared, and this comparison produced consistent results which
prove that the experiment undertaken was a reliable experiment, which allows the Manufacturers Claim to be a
valid claim.
Throughout the experiment it showed that the Napisan Oxi-Action proved to be the most powerful and most
effective stain remover, producing much cleaner and whiter results. The Napisan Oxi-Action powder was followed by
the Napisan Oxi-Action Crystal White as the next most effective powder, lastly followed by the Napisan Oxi-Action
Sensitive Powder.
The Manufacturers Claim stating that all products remove all stains is a correct and valid claim, as the experiment
undertaken proved and provided evidence for this claim.

Discuss the Validity of the Manufacturers Claim (4 Marks)
A valid investigation is one in which is a fair test, and in this case, produces the Manufacturers Claim.
Throughout the investigation undertaken, all controls in which were evident were controlled. The temperature was
controlled throughout the investigation, as all trials were conducted in room temperature (25 degrees Celsius) which
allows for validity to be present. The amount of powder and water (as well as the same temperature of the water) in
which was used across all investigation trials was controlled to the same amount, as well as the same time taken for
each investigation to produce the results. Controlling these variables allows for a more valid investigation which
overall ensures the validity of the Manufacturers Claim.
The investigation undertaken was conducted with the correct equipment to ensure that valid results were produced.
Measuring Cylinders (25mL and 500mL), Thermometers and a Stop Watch (milliseconds) were used, which overall
increases the validity of the experiment, which ensures the validity of the Manufacturers Claim.
The range of values produced throughout the results were compared for consistency, were it was shown that the
results produced throughout all four trials were consistent. This ensures reliability, which furthermore goes on to
increase the validity of the experiment, and from this ensures the validity of the Manufacturers Claim.
The overall validity of the investigation which leads to the overall validity of the Manufacturers Claim is ensured
throughout the controlling of all variables, throughout the use of the correct equipment and through the consistent
range of values produced. Therefore, from this, the Manufacturers Claim is valid.

Describe the Processes you Completed to Ensure your Investigation was Accurate and
Reliable (4 Marks)
ACCURACY
The processes completed to ensure my investigation was accurate, was through the use of specific equipment in
which was suitable for the investigation. A stop watch was used which recorded the time up to milliseconds, which
overall ensured an accurate time frame to which the products were proceeding throughout the investigation. As
well, a 25mL measuring cylinder was used which was suitable and easy to obtain the correct amount of washing
powder needed for the investigation, which ensured accuracy throughout the gathering of the results and
throughout the investigation.
Therefore, throughout the use of these specific pieces of equipment for this investigation, I was able to ensure that
the investigation undertaken was accurate.
RELIABLILTY
The processes completed to ensure my investigation was reliable, was that I repeated the investigation four times,
which would cancel out any slight human error in which could possibly occur through one or two trials. From
repeating the investigation, I was able to compare my results for consistency. Throughout the comparison of my
results, it was proven that the results produced from this investigation were consistent, ensuring that it was a
reliable investigation.
Therefore, throughout the repetition and comparison for consistency of my results within the investigation
undertaken, I was able to ensure that the investigation was reliable.
Explain why this investigation was best undertaken as an individual, as compared to
working in a group/team (4 marks)
The investigation was best undertaken as an individual, rather compared to working in a group/team, as firstly it was
only a small investigation, where everything is easily controlled, with very few jobs needed for the investigation to
be undertaken, and it is completed over a longer amount of time, in which makes it easier to observe and collect
results as an individual.
The investigation wasnt large and needed various amounts of people to help set it up and conduct it throughout.
This conveys that the investigation is essential for only an individual to conduct it, rather than a group/team, as if
you were in a group/team, it would be overcrowded and there would not be enough effective jobs for the members
to do. This shows that clearly, this small investigation was better undertaken as an individual compared to being in a
group/team. The investigations variables were easily controlled by an individual, and overall are better off if an
individual consistently controls the variables throughout each trial to ensure validity. Working in a group/team, the
variables could easily be manipulated if different people were to control them throughout the various trials. From
this, it is proven that this investigation was best undertaken as an individual, compared to working in a group/team.
The investigation was completed over a long period of time, which allows an individual to collect results and
observations easily, compared to if there was a group/team, varied observations could be recorded, which could
overall effect the final results of the investigation, altering the overall validity.
Therefore, it is evident, throughout the investigation, working as an individual would prove to be best, compared to
working in a group/team. This is because of the overall complexity of the investigation, along with the specific
controls needed to be undertaken throughout the experiment, and finally the overall workload.
