Reading Assignments on MITx
Reading Assignments and Online Reading Questions are due
Monday morning at 2 am for the Mon/Tues classes, and
Wednesday morning at 2 am for the Wed/Thurs classes.
Note: The one exception is Week 1 when the Reading
Questions are due Friday at 2 am.

You can find the Reading Assignments and the Reading
Questions on the Courseware page.

All the material in the reading assignments is required material
for 8.01 and may be covered on the exams. We will only cover
a selected portion of the material in class. The reading
questions are designed to test your understanding of material
that may not be be covered in class and also to help you
prepare for class.

Problem Sets
The weekly problem set will have an online
component and a handwritten component. You can
check your answers for the handwritten component
online. Due dates are as follows:

Online Problem Set: Due Tuesday at 9 pm. Submit
answers online.

Handwritten Problem Set : Due Tuesday at 9 pm in
section boxes outside 26-152

Grading Policy
3 Exams + Final Exam = 15%+15%+15%+25% = 70%
(Individual Work)
You must pass the exam portion in order to
pass the course.
Reading Questions 5% (Individual Work)

In-Class Work:
5% Concept Questions (Group Work)
2% Experiments (Group Work)
8% Friday Problem Solving (Group Work)

Problem Sets:
2% Online Problem Sets (Individual Work)
8% Handwritten Problem Sets (Individual Work)

Exam 1: Thurs Sept 18, 7:30 pm -9:30 pm
Conflict Exam 1: Friday Sept 19, 9:00 am - noon

Exam 2: Thurs Oct 23, 7:30 pm -9:30 pm
Conflict Exam 2: Friday Oct 24, 9:00 am - noon

Exam 3: Tues Nov 25, 7:30 pm -9:30 pm (Thanksgiving week)
Conflict Exam 3: Wed Nov 26, 9:00 am - noon

Final Exam: Date/time to be announced by Registrar

Please do not buy plane tickets home without consulting
these dates, especially for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Math Review Night
There will be a weekly math review night that will
review topics like vectors, calculus, differential
equations, etc. These sessions are informal and
are not lectures. Students are encouraged to ask
questions and there will be practice problem
solving. The first review night will be Week 2
Tuesday at 9 pm in 26-152.
Group Learning
Students will form groups of three and work together on
problem solving and experiments throughout the
semester. We encourage to form your own groups and
then go online to enter your names at
