10.17. Academic Sessions:
Shri Sant Gajanan Maharaj College of Engineering, Shegaon is established in year 1983 and is affiliated to Sant Gaege Baba Amravati University, Amravati. The institute runs five UG and two PG programs in engineering and one PG program in management. The process of admissions to these programs is carried out as per the directions given by the Government from time to time. The UG programs in engineering are eight semester programs (four academic sessions/years) and the PG programs in engineering and management are of four semester programs (two academic sessions/years). University sends the academic calendar in advance to all the affiliated institutes. Thus the academic sessions of all the programs are planned based on the guidelines / academic calendar received from Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. Every year, the period of academic session is notified by the University at the beginning of the session. The University academic calendar is framed so as to ensure the minimum teaching days requirement in each semester. The academics (teaching) in each affiliated college is carried out as prescribed in the prospectus designed for each course by the University. It is described as teaching scheme in the prospectus. Typically in each semester of engineering program there are five to six theory courses/subjects and three to four practical/laboratory courses. Teaching scheme describes the total workload for each subject/course in terms of number of lectures, tutorials and lab hours to be conducted in every week by the concerned faculty.
Examination system, year / Sem
The performance of students registered for different UG and PG programs is evaluated as per the procedure prescribed in the prospectus of respective programs. The examinations are governed by the regulations for examinations in University Ordinance Booklet. There are eight semester examinations leading to the degree of B.E. (First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Semester B.E.). The first and second semester examinations are common for all branches. The main examination of first, third, fifth and seventh semester BE are held by University in winter and supplementary examination in summer every year. The main examination of second, fourth, sixth and eight semester BE are held by University in summer and supplementary examination in winter every year. For PG programs also, odd semester examination are conducted in winter and supplementary examination in summer however, even semester examinations are conducted in summer and supplementary examination in winter. With few exceptions typically the student evaluation in each theory as well as laboratory course, is based on college level continuous evaluation component and the final semester examination conducted by University at the end of each semester. The semester end theory and practical examination is of three hours duration. The weightage for college level (internal) evaluation is 20% and University examination is 80%. However, in practical courses, college level (Internal) Evaluation and external examination at the end of the semester has equal share of 50% each. In final year (last academic session) of UG course, the students need to carry out project work and deliver seminars. The center for University examination is the respective engineering college 31 To set question paper of University examination in each subject, University constitutes two members committee of whom one is the Chairman the other is member. The pattern of question paper for university examination is also specified in respective program prospectus and the conduct of University examination is in respect of the Ordinances pertaining to examinations leading to the degree of Bachelor of Engineering/Master of Engineering/MBA. The minimum eligibility condition in general for registering in next higher class is, the student should clear 2/3 rd
heads in the current session. However, students having backlog of first year are not eligible for (getting admitted to) third year BE.
Period of declaration of results:
The result is normally declared approximately within a month span after the examination by controller of examination of University.
