Our community is defined by the network of universities. But
how can the university population connect with the commu-
nity? The intent of the building is to do just this by offer-
ing engaging volunteer organizations such as Habitat for
Humanity and Freedom by Design. To support these, a mem-
bership workshop is open to the public 24/7. This brings
both students and people from around the community to
one place. The shop would be staffed and run much like a
membership gym, but instead of barbells and benches, the
facility is supplied with band saws and blue welders. The
volunteer organizations would also use this facility to ful-
fill the various projects around the community. The public is
welcome to come and submit projects and leave the students
to supply fresh creative solutions.
