1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 0 Foreword Aircraft Purchase Agreements stipulate that Technical Publications shall comply with ATA (Air Transport Association of America) Specifications. The standards described in the Airbus Reference Language document set shall be observed. Where appropriate the principles of Simplified English (AECMA) shall be used. The Airbus Reference Language document set comprises the following ABDs: - ABD0036 - Numbering/Naming Covers general numbering and naming rules for aircraft functions and products. Includes a separate appendix of reference catalogs of standard terms. - ABD0037 - Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook (AAAH) Lists the abbreviations approved for use within the Airbus environment. - ABD0046 - Units of Measurement Provides guidelines for the selection and use of units, symbols and procedures for conversion and rounding. - ABD0056 - Glossary of Airbus Terms and Expressions (GATE) Lists all the terms which are used in Airbus matters together with their meaning (in the Airbus environment) to ensure a common understanding between AIB disciplines and offer a reference for relations with Airworthiness Authorities, Customers, Members/Associated Partners and Suppliers/Sub-Contractors. Note: ABD0037 and ABD0056 will be superseded by AP2080 during the year 2000 AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 1 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 1 Introduction 1-1 General This ABD provides rules for coherent definition and application of Numbering and Naming requirements for aircraft functions and constituents. The objective is to obtain maximum consistency: - From the Design stage to the Product Support stage. - Between documents and what is actually on the aircraft (labels/placards/markings and messages shown on display units). - Between Aircraft Projects (starting from A340/A330) to facilitate Cross Qualification for Crew and Maintenance Personnel. This consistency is essential not only for our Customers but also for Airbus Industrie and the Members (due to the wide use of Electronic Data Processing - EDP). Where directives already exist to cover the above requirements this ABD simply refers to the relevant directives. Otherwise the rules are laid down in this ABD. 1-2 Reference Documents - ATA 100 Specification. - ARINC Characteristics/Specifications. - ABD0037 - Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook (AAAH). - ABD0046 - Units of Measurement. - ABD0056 - Glossary of Airbus Terms and Expressions (GATE). 1-3 Applicability Applicable to all current and future production Airbus aircraft, including development of existing aircraft and aircraft definition evolution, eg: modification. 1-4 Organization of ABD0036 ABD0036 is organized in general accordance with the order of events in which aircraft/aircraft items are numbered and named. The following chart shows this sequence, and refers to the relevant sections of this ABD, or to any other document, for the corresponding rules. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 2 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 2 Numbering/Naming - General 2-1 General An aircraft, for the purpose of this ABD, is composed of: - data and documentation for definition, description and justification, - the aircraft itself which comprises functions and the techniques, (i.e.: the aircraft constituent items), used to fulfil these functions. 2-2 Identification of Functions and Techniques Functions are identified by a title and a reference number in accordance with ATA Specification 100 (refer to Section 4). Techniques have basically two types of identification: - a Functional Designation together with a Functional Identification Number (FIN). These are used when an item is considered only from a functional aspect. They usually relate to items of equipment or to Standard Items with a significant function, - a Technological Description together with a Part Number. These are used when an item is considered from a technological aspect. They are used for all types of items. Note: Technological Descriptions and Part Numbers can be allocated by Airbus Members and Associated Partners. In this case the descriptions are referred to as Standardized Techno- logical Descriptions. They can also be allocated by suppliers, in which case they are referred to as Suppliers' Technological Descriptions. 2-3 Definitions Functional Designation (refer to Chapter 6) Title describing the function of equipment/components or significant items of an aircraft system/circuit/installation. Standardized Technological Description (refer to Chapter 6) The Standardized Technological Description is a term used to describe the basic technical function of an item. It must be consistent with the basic part of the Functional Designation. Specification Reference and Title For items defined by means of a Technical Specification (refer to ABD0010/0200), the title of the Technical Specification shall be the Standardized Technological Description, written in the normal order of words in English, eg: Retractable Landing Light, not Light-Retractable, Landing. Suppliers' Technological Description If, in response to a specification, a supplier can offer an item which is in his current range and can be supplied as an "off the shelf" item it may retain its identification. In such cases the following descriptions can apply: - a Functional Designation, - a Standardized Technological Description, - a Supplier's Technological Description. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 2 - 2 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 2-4 Language and Abbreviations All text shall be in the English language using aeronautical terminology in common use e.g. as used by the ATA The reference documents to be used are Webster's Third New international Dictionary of the English Language or Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and the Catalogs of Standard Terms to be found in the appendix to this ABD. The use of abbreviations is permitted. The rules governing their use and catalogs of abbreviations approved for use are included in ABD0037 - Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook. 2-5 Relationships The relationships between terms is shown in chart form in paragraph 6-3. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 3 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 3 Definition and Specification of Aircraft 3-1 Aircraft Project Identification At the beginning of a new Aircraft Project, Airbus Industrie identifies the new aircraft by means of a reference, comprising the Type, Series, Model, Variant and Configuration: - Refer to Aircraft Configuration Management Rules (ACMR) and ABD0056 Chapter 4. The allocated reference is recorded in the Aircraft Certification Register for Aircraft Types and Models. 3-2 Aircraft Definition Documentation - Refer to ABD0069 - Aircraft Definition Glide 3-3 Specification of Systems - Refer to: * ABD0100 and ABD0200 - System Definition and Specifications 3-4 Specification of Airbus Designed Assemblies/Sub-assemblies/Items - Refer to: * ABD0004 - Definition Dossier 3-5 Specification of Non Standard Items (Equipment) - Refer to: * ABD0100 and 0200 - Equipment - General Technical Requirements (Supersedes ABD0010 - Equipment - Specifications) * ABD0017 - Equipment - Off-the-Shelf * ABD0007 - Equipment - General Technical Requirements 3-6 Specification of Standard Items - Refer to: * ABD0032 - Standard Items * ABD0055 - European Standards 3-7 Specification of Materials - Refer to: * ABD0033 - Materials * ABD0043 - Materials Consumable 3-8 Specification of Processes - Refer to: * ABD0034 - Processes 3-9 Specification of Tools and Test Equipment - Refer to: * ABD0024 - Aircraft Tool Mfr and Test Equipment * ABD0012 -Equipment - Tool and Test Equipment AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 4 Aircraft Functions 4-1 General An aircraft consists of: - functions which are necessary for the aircraft to meet its specification, - techniques by which the functions are achieved. Functions are numbered and named in general accordance with ATA Spec. No. 100 - SPECIFI- CATION FOR MANUFACTURERS TECHNICAL DATA, generally known as "ATA 100". 4-2 ATA Specification 100 - Background First issued in 1956, the objective of ATA Specification 100 is to standardize the presentation of data provided by manufacturers to airlines, so that the same information can be found in generally the same place and form whatever the aircraft and/or the manufacturer. As regards functions, the objective is achieved by a standard system of breaking the aircraft down into its functions, and of numbering and naming them. This system is known as the ATA breakdown system. The numbers are known as ATA References, and provide a unique addressing system. ATA Specification 100 breaks an aircraft down into its functions as follows: - Systems (known as Chapters in related publications). - Sub-Systems (or Sections). - Sub-Sub-Systems (or Sub-Sections). - Units (or Subjects). Each function group has a standard 6-digit number (the ATA Ref.) and a name (known as a title). These are specified in ATA Specification 100 as far as the sub-system level, common to any aircraft. From the sub-sub-system level, each individual manufacturer continues the allocation to suit the aircraft involved. The breakdown system is based on an alphabetical sequence using titles allocated to Systems, eg: Air Conditioning Chapter 21-00-00 Auto Flight Chapter 22-00-00 Communications Chapter 23-00-00 Within each System are Sub-Systems. For example, ATA Chapter 21 deals with the Air Conditioning System and provides for a range of sub-systems, eg: Compression ATA Ref. 21-10-00 Distribution ATA Ref. 21-20-00 Each Sub-System (eg: Distribution ATA Ref. 21-20-00) is further divided into Sub-Sub-Systems. "Distribution" (21-20-00) provides a number of Sub-Sub-Systems including: Cabin Air Distribution ATA Ref. 21-21-00 and Recirculation Cockpit Air Ventilation ATA Ref. 21-22-00 Each Sub-Sub-System (referred to as circuits or installations), comprises Units (components). "Cabin Air Distribution and Recirculation" (21-21-00) includes for example: Filter-Recirculation ATA Ref. 21-21-41 Check Valve-Recirculation ATA Ref. 21-21-42 AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 2 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 4-3 The ATA Specification 100 and Airbus The ATA Specification 100 itself states that the standards it establishes are "recommendatory in nature" but that they "become mandatory to the extent they may be incorporated into the purchase agreements executed between the individual suppliers and the individual operators". Airbus General Purchase Agreements stipulate general compliance with ATA Specification 100 for contractual Technical Publications, therefore Airbus is committed to following ATA Specification 100. For this reason and in order to achieve maximum consistency between Airbus data, (both that supplied to customers and that used as a basis for the data supplied to customers), and between this data and the aircraft itself, a specific Airbus ATA Breakdown is established at XX-XX-00 level at the outset of each new Program/Project, and is later completed at XX-XX-XX level. Each Sub-Sub-System is allocated: - A circuit identification consisting of two letters. - Its own ATA Ref. (XX-XX-00). - A title (Refer to section 4-7). Each unit within a Sub-Sub-System is allocated: - A Functional Item Number (FIN) - Ref. ABD0004. - An associated ATA Ref. (XX-XX-XX). - A title (Refer to Section 4-7). The resulting Breakdown is used as a basis for the numbering of drawings and documents. Examples include: - Aircraft Standard Specification. - Detail Specifications. - Technical Design Directives (TDD). - Mechanical drawings. - Electrical drawings. - Electrical wires. - Equipment specifications. - System Description Notes (SDN). - Airframe Certification Documentation (ACD). - Certification documentation. - Documents/data for relations with customers (eg: Technical Publications). The remainder of this chapter gives the details of when, how and by whom ATA numbers and names are to be allocated. 4-4 Airbus ATA Breakdown Establishment Sequence (Refer to Section 6-3) The sequence of activities leading to the establishment of the ATA Breakdown is as follows: A - Identification of all functions at XX-X0-00 and XX-XX-00 level, at the outset of each Airbus project, or as and when new functions are introduced. B - Identification of all items required to fulfill the functions. Allocation of FINs and associated Functional Designations (Refer to ABD0004 - Definition Dossier, for numbering rules, and ABD0036 for functional designations). C - Allocation of functional ATA References (XX-XX-11 to XX-XX-99) and related titles for those detail functions (items) considered to be significant for maintenance. Example: For A330/A340 AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 3 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 ATA REF. The Design Offices have overall technical responsibility. Maximum agreement shall be reached between the Members involved. Outstanding decisions shall be taken during the System Interface activities. 4-5-1-2 XX-X0-00 and XX-XX-00 - Overall control: For mechanical items - Non-Specific Design Work (NSDW) level 1. For electrical/electromechanical items - NSDW level 2. - Allocation: NSDW Airbus Member Design Office (see worksharing document, Report 6, applicable to the relevant aircraft project). - General coordination for harmonization: Aerospatiale Matra. In case of problems, the final decision lies with AIB and will be taken by TF7-WG1. 4-5-1-3 XX-XX-01 to XX-XX-99 - Overall control: Member responsible for specific manual or responsible for specific ATA Chapter as defined in Report 6. - Allocation: Technical Publications with the agreement of NSDW Design Office. - General coordination for harmonization: Aerospatiale Matra. In case of problems, the final decision lies with AIB (Customer Services Directorate). 4-5-1-4 Coordinators Each Airbus Member has one coordinator, with assistant coordinators if required, to handle proposals and decisions. - Refer to AM2002 StB, QDB and ACmAB Directory for further details 4-5-2 Data Centralization As decisions are taken they are entered in a dedicated central data base, known as the DB ATA REF (Refer to Paragraph 4-8). General responsibility for the data base, and for inputs, follow-up and archives lies with Aerospatiale Matra. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 4 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 4-6 Rules for Allocating ATA Refs 4-6-1 XX-00-00 and XX-X0-00 At the beginning of an Aircraft Project, numbering at 3-digit level shall be in conformity with the ATA Specification 100 at the revision status defined by the relevant project management. If the aircraft technology is not catered for by this Revision of the ATA Specification 100 a request for amendment to the specification shall be submitted to the ATA/AIA Committee as follows: 1. At the earliest stage possible (i.e. when the general design concepts have been established with reasonable certainty), the Design Organization must submit requests for additions or modifications, with justification, to the AIB Customer Services - Technical Publications Organization Breakdown Coordinator, with a copy to the other coordinators. The request should preferably include a proposal of the text to be included in the Specification 100. 2 . AIB then submit the proposal to the AIA/ATA committee at the earliest opportunity. 3 . The proposal can be considered to be usable after acceptance by AIB. EMBED ATB Coordinator See applicable BAABI ATA 100 Representative MAAP Proposal Design Office or Tech Pubs Yes No In ATA 100? Changes may be made only if required by the aircraft technology. 4-6-3 XX-XX-XX level 4-6-3-1 A 6 digit ATA Ref. is allocated to those items which require specific airframe documentation i.e. A - Those governed by the Maintenance Review Board (MRB) for scheduled actions. B - Those governed by the Maintenance Planning Document (MPD) which is an implementation of the MRB. C - Those subject to GO/NO-GO/GO-IF classification in the Master Minimum Equipment List (MMEL) and the Configuration Deviation List (CDL). D - Those governed by the various onboard monitoring systems. In this case, any change to the ATA Reference or Functional Designation of the Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) may only be made after Design Office agreement to modify the software of the corresponding computers (involves raising an aircraft Modification). All LRUs monitored by the central warning and maintenance systems shall be identified by the code letter "M" (monitored) in the DB ATA REF. E - Additional Line Replaceable Units/Items (LRU/LRI). F - Those requiring a special/specific maintenance action. Note: The Breakdown does not allocate ATA References to Component Maintenance Manuals (Vendor, Manufacturer). These ATA References, from 4 th to 6 th digit, are the responsibility of the Supplier. 4-6-3-2 Reference Documents - Electric/electronic systems/circuits: Use the Principle Diagram (PD). - Mechanical sub-systems: Use the relevant Functional Diagram (FD). 4-6-3-3 Rules for Numbering These rules explain how to number 5 th and 6 th digit ATA References. - Gaps shall be provided between the allocated ATA References (-11/-99) in order to allow for incorporation of: additional significant items, aircraft modifications. - Existing ATA References shall never be renumbered to insert new FINs. - Several FINs may be covered by the same 6 digit ATA Reference if they do not require a specific reference for the purposes of onboard monitoring systems, or if typical maintenance procedures are applicable. - Because of onboard monitoring systems, ATA References at XX-XX-XX level shall not be changed unless required by an aircraft Modification. A - ATA chapters Chap 05 - For 05-10 to 05-19: no 5 th and 6 th digits. - For 05-21 to 05-29: Following A320 rules the 4 th and 5 th digits include the major zone, and the 6 th digit is always 0. eg: Inspection in zone 121 =ATA ref. 05-21-20. - For 05-51 to 05-59: 5 th and 6 th digits allocated sequentially. Chap 06 - The 5 th and 6 th digits consist of the relevant ATA chapter. eg: Fuselage stations =ATA ref. 06-31-53. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 6 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 Chaps 07 to 10 - Follow ATA Specification 100 rules for the 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd digits. The 4 th digit is a sequential number and the 5 th and 6 th digits are always 0. Chaps 11 and 12 - The 5 th and 6 th digits consist of the relevant ATA chapter and the title is that of the ATA chapter. eg: exterior placards and markings for the Fuel System =ATA ref. 11-21-28 Fuel. Chaps 20 to 45 - The 5 th and 6 th digits are allocated in accordance with the general rules contained in paragraph B. Chap 49 - The 5 th and 6 th digits are allocated in accordance with the APU manufacturer's breakdown, except for items which are under the aircraft manufacturer's responsibility and are therefore numbered in accordance with the general rules contained in paragraph B. Note: in the event that the APU manufacturer's breakdown numbering does not conform to the AIB system, renumbering to obtain conformance is permissible. Chap 51 - The 5 th and 6 th digits are numbered sequentially, so giving the compiler freedom to allocate numbers in an unbroken sequence or to leave some numbers free for allocation at a later date. Chap 52 - The 5 th and 6 th digits are allocated in accordance with the general rules contained in paragraph B. Chaps 53 to 57 - The 5 th digit is allocated in accordance with the general rules contained in paragraph B. As far as possible the 6 th digit should be allocated so that the same item appearing in adjacent sections throughout the aircraft has the same 5 th and 6 th digits in the different sub-chapters. Agreement between the members during ATA ref allocation is required to achieve this consistency. Chaps 71 to 80 - The 5 th and 6 th digits are allocated in accordance with the engine manufacturer's breakdown, except for items which are under the aircraft manufacturer's responsibility which are numbered in accordance with the general rules contained in paragraph B. Note: Special allocation Rules for chapters 91 to 99. Chap 91 - (Main Wire Routing, Panels, and Wiring List - WDM only). - 91-01-00 thru 91-09-00 (main wire routing by zone): the last three digits reflect, in general, the major zone. - 91-10-00 thru 91-19-00: the last three digits correspond in general to the VU panel identification allocated by the Design Office. - 91-20-00 thru 91-99-00: reserved for Aircraft Wiring List (AWL). Split by the AWL computer program according to the circuits. Chap 92 - Engine data Same breakdown system as for Chap 91. Chap 93 - 99 - Reserved for military versions of aircraft. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 7 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 B - General rules for the allocation of 5 th and 6 th digits a) First stage - establishment of 5 th digit by reference to following table. 5 th /6 th DIGIT ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL 1x 2x 3x 4x 5x 6x 7x 8x 9x Electrical (inputs) Electrical (indicators) Electrical (Computers) Mechanical (Mechanical items in electrical systems) Electrical (Electromechanical) Mechanical Mechanical Mechanical Reserved for airline requests Note 1: Where 1x, 2x, 3x or 5x is full, then further 5-digit electrical items should be included in 4x or 6x. Similarly, where 4x, 6x, 7x or 8x is full, then further mechanical items should be included in 3x or 5x. Note 2: In exceptional cases, where, for example, the 5 th /6 th digits 4x and 6x thru 8x and 3x and 5x have been used up in a purely mechanical chapter, and further 5 th and 6 th digits are required, then extension into 1x and 2x is allowed. Similarly, in purely (or mainly) electrical chapters, extension is allowed into 5 th digits 7 and 8. b) Second stage - Establishment of 6 th Digit (XX-XX-XX) The 6 th digit is numbered sequentially within the 5 th digit range selected in the first stage. The compiler has the freedom to allocate the numbers in an unbroken sequence or to leave some numbers free for use at a later date. (eg: - 11, - 13, - 15). 4-7 Rules for Allocating Titles 4-7-1 Systems/Sub-systems (XX-00-00/XX-X0-00) Titles shall be in general conformity with ATA Specification 100 at the applicable Revision status. Minor deviations are however, acceptable, if justified. eg: 27-10-00 is AILERON AND TAB in ATA Specification 100. In the Airbus ATA 100 Breakdown, it is simply AILERON, as there are no tabs on the ailerons. Titles for additions or modifications to the ATA Specification 100 shall be included in the proposals to the AIA/ATA Committee (Refer to Paragraph 4-6). They shall be precise, concise and fit in with the ATA style. 4-7-2 Sub-sub-systems (XX-XX-00) Correspond to the installations and circuits of a specific Aircraft Project. To be based on the Breakdown of the previous Airbus Program/Project in so far as the technical definition of the new project is identical. Titles shall be concise but sufficiently general to satisfy further end usage and shall not be influenced by different sub-sub-system configuration or sources of major equipment supply. 4-7-3 Significant Items (XX-XX-XX) AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 8 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 4-7-3-1 General For items which have a significant function (such as Equipment/Component/Item, Standard Items, Assy/Sub Assy) within a system, sub-system/sub-sub-system, a title is allocated as specified below. 4-7-3-2 Items Identified by a FIN The title of the ATA Reference shall be consistent with the functional designation given to the item involved (refer to chapter 6 for the rules governing functional designations). This means that: - The main word shall be indicated first, followed by a dash and then the function on the aircraft, plus the complementary modifier where really necessary. But - Abbreviations shall not be used unless the item is commonly referred to by its abbreviation (see rules for abbreviations in paragraph 4-7-4) or unless they are extremely common, eg: MLG (Main Landing Gear). - A given ATA Reference may cover more than one FIN, in which case the title shall be limited to the parts of the functional designation which are common to all the FINs. Example: Functional Designation ATA Ref. Title 1206 GM ACTG CYL-MLG DOOR, L 1207 GM ACTG CYL-MLG DOOR, R 1CE1 ELAC-1 1CE2 ELAC-2 1CE3 ELAC-3 32-33-11 ACTUATING CYLINDER - MLG DOOR 1206 GM 1207 GM 27-91-13 ELAC (Elevator Aileron Computer) 1CE1 1CE2 1CE3 4-7-3-3 Items Not Identified by a FIN For maintenance significant assemblies/subassemblies the titles shall be of a form similar to Functional Designations, and the same rules shall be followed. 4-7-4 Use of Abbreviations - Refer to ABD0037 - Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook (AAAH) for approved abbreviations. Abbreviations shall be used under the following conditions: XX-X0-00 and XX-XX-00 Designation in full of the function, in each ATA Reference where it is quoted, followed by: - The abbreviations of the function if one exists, in single parentheses ( ), eg: 31-60-00 Electronic Instrument System (EIS) 31-61-00 Electronic Instrument System (EIS) Control However, in the case of internationally known abbreviations for common functions eg: ILS, ATC. It is not necessary to complete with the full name. - Complementary information, including abbreviations other than that of the function, in double parentheses eg: 24-23-00 AC Auxiliary Generation ((APU Generator, GCU)) AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 4 - 9 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 Abbreviations between (( )) are not indicated in full at XX-X0-00, XX-XX-00 level since they are generally related to equipment (XX-XX-XX). XX-XX-XX For items commonly known by an abbreviation the main word shall consist of the abbreviation (as in the functional designation for the item), and shall be followed by the name in full between parentheses eg: XX-XX-XX FQIC (Fuel Quantity Indication Computer). 4-7-5 Use of the Dash (-) The dash is used at XX-00-00 and XX-XX-XX level only. At XX-00-00 level, it separates the indication "GENERAL" from the system title eg: XX-00-00 Air Conditioning - General. At XX-XX-XX level, it separates the main word of the functional designation of a significant item from the principal modifier (function). eg: XX-XX-XX Check Valve - Green Reservoir Return - Refer to Chapter 6-4 for rules concerning functional designations. 4-8 Data Storage and Outputs 4-8-1 General All ATA Ref. data, when approved, is entered and stored in a central data base, the DB ATA REF. This data base is accessible on line through the Airbus network. 4-8-2 Contents of the DB ATA REF The Data Base contains at least the following parameters: - Aircraft Project Identity. - ATA references XX-00-00 to XX-XX-00 allocated to Systems/Sub-systems. The distribution list of the above two outputs is handled by AIB, Customer Services - Technical Publications Organization. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 5 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 5 Drawn Parts 5-1 General These are items designed by AIB Members/Associated Partners or Subcontractors, and are consequently defined by means of the drawing set. 5-2 Identification These items are identified by a Part Number (PN) and by a Name selected from the "Standard Terms for Drawn Parts" listed in catalog B in the Appendix to this ABD. 5-3 Rules for Numbering Refer to ABD0004 - Definition Dossier. 5-4 Rules for Naming 5-4-1 General Rules The golden rule is CONSISTENCY. This applies at two levels: (1) The same name shall be allocated to the same type of part, and this: - whatever the aircraft project, - whatever the aircraft section, - whatever the AIB Member/Associated Partner/Subcontractor. (2) The same name shall be used for the same PN in all applications: - drawings and/or associated documents (whatever the type: detail, assembly, and whatever the sheets: picture, schedule), - technical publications (CMMM, IPC, SRM, etc.). 5-4-2 Sources for Naming To achieve the required level of consistency, a catalog of standard names is provided in the separate Appendix to this ABD: - Appendix B - Drawn Parts. If it is necessary to quote names of systems/sub-systems/sub-sub-systems, refer to drawing 00X00710000 (X representing the letter specific to the aircraft involved) or to the equivalent Basic Approved ATA 100 Breakdown Index (BAABI). Names of Non Standard Items in schedules of installation drawings shall be coherent with the ECDB Functional Designation field, (Ref. 6-4-3). The titles of the Installation Drawings of a Non Standard Item shall reflect at least the main word of the Functional Designation allocated to this item. 5-4-3 Detail Parts - Content and Form Detail parts shall be identified in accordance with paragraph 5-2. The description for a given part shall always be the same whatever the sub-assembly or assembly on which the item is installed. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 5 - 2 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 In the case of castings and forgings, it is the name describing the part which shall be used, (not the word "CASTING", "FORGING", (eg: STRUT - MLG DRAG)). Part names are limited to 21 characters. They must therefore: - be brief, - be sufficiently general to allow further end usage without needing to be changed but contain sufficient information to categorize the part. The main identifying noun or noun phrase shall be placed first, to facilitate the automated selection of parts. eg: SUPPORT It shall be followed, if required, by a dash and then the most significant modifier or modifying phrase, which will further describe the part so as to distinguish it from other parts of a similar name. eg: SUPPORT - TUBULAR Articles, prepositions and conjunctions such as "AN", "THE", "OF", "FOR" shall not appear in the part name. For drawings representing single detail parts, the name of the part and the title of the drawing shall be identical. eg: Dwg No XX F535 X0001 SUPPORT-TUBULAR PN F535 X0001 SUPPORT-TUBULAR 5-4-4 Sub-assemblies/Assemblies - Content and Form The rules are basically the same as for detail parts with the following difference: - Titles for Sub-assembly/Assembly drawings shall contain the word ASSY with the main identifying noun or noun phrase. eg: SUPPORT ASSY 5-4-5 Installations - Content and Form The rules are basically the same as for detail parts with the following difference: - Title of installation drawings shall contain the word INSTL with the main identifying noun or noun phrase. eg: SUPPORT INSTL 5-4-6 Notes on Drawings - Refer to Appendix C - Notes for Use on Drawings. 5-4-7 Applications The names are allocated by means of Design Office drawings. These are then used as a source for various other documents. eg: - System Description Notes. - Airframe Certification Document. - Certification documents. - Contractual technical publications. Drawing Aperture Cards (DAC). Structural Repair Manual (SRM). Component Maintenance Manual Manufacturer (CMMM). Illustrated Parts Catalog (IPC). Service Bulletins (SB). AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 6 Non-Standard Items (Equipment/Components/Items) 6-1 General These are items made by outside Suppliers. For the technical definition of the terms, Ref.: * ABD0000: Aircraft Constituents. Non-Standard Items can be categorized in two ways: - Off the Shelf selected: already existing for other Aircraft Programs/Projects. Ref.: * ABD0017/ABD0200 - Equipment - Off the Shelf. - Newly designed: subject to an individual specification. Ref.: * ABD0010/ABD0200 - Equipment - Specification. 6-2 Identification 6-2-1 General Non Standard Items are identified by: - A Functional Item Number (FIN) and its associated Functional Designation. - An Equipment/Component/Item Specification Number and the associated Standardized Technological Description (refer to 6-5). - A Part Number (PN) and its associated Supplier's Technological Description as allocated by the supplier (Refer to paragraph 6-6). 6-2-2 FIN and Functional Designation These are both allocated by the Airbus Industrie Members and are specific within a given project. Ref.: * ABD0004 - Definition Dossier 6-2-3 Equipment/Component/Item Specification Number and Associated Standardized Techno- Logical Description These are also both allocated by the Airbus Industrie Members. The Standardized Technological Description shall be independent of the source of supply, and the aircraft project and system/circuit/installation in which the item will be integrated. 6-2-4 PN and Supplier's Technological Description (on equipment nameplates, associated documen- tation such as Component Maintenance Manual (CMM), etc.) - Newly designed items shall be allocated the Standardized Technological Description as defined by the corresponding Equipment/Component/Item specification. - Off the shelf selected equipment which is modified to suit a specific Airbus definition shall be allocated the Standardized Technological Description as defined by the corresponding Equipment/ Component/Item specification. If the equipment is used without modification: Airbus Industrie Members shall use the Standardized Technological Description as defined in the corresponding Equipment/Component/Item validation Specification. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 2 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 6-2-5 Multicomponent Assemblies Equipment can consist of various modules. In such cases, the above identification methods are valid for items, including the bare equipment, combined to form an assembly and for the assembly itself. 6-3 Allocation Sequence and Relationships Between Terms The chart on page 6-3 illustrates the sequence of events involved in the numbering and naming of Equipment, Components and Items for a new aircraft project or a new installation/circuit definition. The following chart indicates the relationship between the various terms and emphasizes the need for consistency. AIRCRAFT FUNCTION (LIGHTING) FUNCTIONAL DESIGNATION FUNCTIONAL DESIGNATION FUNCTIONAL DESIGNATION (LIGHT-NAVIGATION, LEFT WING) FIN & FUNCTIONAL DESIGNATION (7LA LIGHT-NAVIGATION, LEFT WING) STANDARDIZED TECHNOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION (LIGHT-NAVIGATION) TITLE OF TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION (NAVIGATION LIGTHS-WING) ECDB DATA BANKS DOCUMENTATION SUPPLIER'S TECHNOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION (LIGHT UNIT) DRAWINGS (PRINCIPLE AND FUNCTIONAL DIAGRAMS) AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 3 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 ALLOCATION SEQUENCE Functional Analysis - Identification of all aircraft functions - Segregation in elementary Circuit/Installation Allocation of: - 4 digit ATA Reference + - Title - Circuit letters (where required) - Record of Responsibilities System Definition and Interfacing Specification Identification of all items (eg: Equipment for each function/system) Allocation of: - FIN - Functional Designation Establishment of preliminary Equipment/Component/Item Technical Specifications Allocation of: - Specification Reference - Standardized Technological Description Identification of Maintenance Significant Items (MSI) Allocation of: - 6 digit ATA Reference Establishment of final, contractual Technical Specifications Confirmation or correction of: - Specification Reference - Standardized Technological Description (Note: may also have repercussions on Functional Designation) - Selection of Supplier - Establishment of customized specification(s) Allocation of: - PN - Part Number - Supplier's Technological Description AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 4 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 6-4 Rules for Naming - Functional Designations 6-4-1 General The following rules apply to all items with a FIN, eg: - Equipment (whether Off-the-Shelf or new Airbus specific). - Components or Sub-components of equipment considered as being themselves Line Replaceable Units (LRU). - Functionally Significant Standard Items. A Functional Designation shall indicate what the item involved is, and what it does on the aircraft and in the system/circuit involved. It shall also include, where relevant, any related system, unit or location data. As a general rule, each FIN has a single Functional Designation which does not change, whatever the source of supply (PN) of the item involved. In general, Functional Designations are allocated at the same time as the FINs, on the Functional Diagrams (FD) and Principle Diagrams (PD) and are then loaded in the Equipment Central Data Bank (ECDB). They are structured in agreement with the basic rules set out in paragraph 6-4-3. Later, they are used in other applications such as: - labels, - markings, - display unit messages, - ATA 100 Breakdown (Refer to Chap. 4), - Contractual Technical Publications. Depending on the application, they can be used: - as defined in paragraph 6-4-3, - in whole or in part (eg: labels), - with or without abbreviations, - with or without the Main Word first (eg: Display Unit Messages). eg: The ATA 100 Breakdown uses Functional Designations at 6 digit level: - with the Main Word first, - but often in part only (several FINs for one ATA Reference), - and very limited abbreviations. Display Unit Messages also use Functional Designations: - with abbreviations, - but often only the Main Word, - and always in the normal order of words (not "Main Word first" layout). (Ref. paragraph 6-6). But, whatever the form used in the above applications: - the basic Functional Designations allocated on Functional Diagrams and Principle Diagrams and loaded in ECDB shall always follow ABD0004 and ABD0036 (Paragraph 6-4-3) (i.e. Main Word first, etc.), - the wording shall be identical. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 5 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 Directives for Item category ABD0004/0005/0036 DWG/ECDB ABD0018/0048/0100/ 0200 SCREEN Not monitored Main Word First Monitored (Screen messages) Main Word First Normal Word Order This means that the fact that some information on a drawing may result in a screen message does not change the need for the drawing to follow ABD0004 and ABD0036. 6-4-2 Responsibility - Ref. Applicable Worksharing Document (known as Report 6) For pure Mechanical Items, the NSDW Level 1 Member shall allocate the FINs and associated Functional Designation on the relevant Mechanical Functional Diagram. For Electrical and Electromechanical Items (items which have at least one electrical connection), the NSDW/SDW Level 2 Member shall allocate the FINs and associated Functional Desi- gnations on the relevant Electrical Principle Diagram. Where an equipment is classified "Electromechanical" it can appear simultaneously on the Mechanical Functional and Electrical Principle Diagrams. In this case the electrical FIN shall prevail in any common Data Base, and harmonization shall be cleared in the framework of the system Interface activities for any other documents. 6-4-3 Form and Content of the Functional Designation Functional Designations consist of: - a Main Word or Words (20 characters max.), - a Principal Modifier, - a Complementary Modifier, where applicable, the total not to exceed 54 characters. The Main Word shall be separated from any Modifier by a dash (21 st digit max, no spaces either side of the dash). Modifiers shall be separated from each other by a comma. eg: RELAY-LOW LEVEL DET, Y HYD RSVR - The Main Word(s) shall be a basic description of the item (ie: the minimum information needed to categorize the item, eg: Relay, Pump). Ideally, the Standardized Technological Description (Refer to 6-7-1) should be used. It shall form at least part of the Standardized Technological Description (indicated on the Equipment/Component Specification) which is stored in a specific field in the ECDB, (Refer to 6-5). eg: Standardized Technological Description Main word of Functional Designation RELAY PUMP-HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR-LINEAR VALVE-CHECK, 1/2 IN TRANSDUCER-PRESSURE RELAY PUMP ACTUATOR CHECK VALVE PRESS XDCR In the case of equipment commonly referred to by their abbreviation the whole abbreviation shall be considered as the Main Word. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 6 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 eg: Standardized Technological Description Main word of Functional Designation FQIC ECB IDG FQIC ECB IDG If a suffix is required it shall be considered as a complementary modifier. Correct use of the Main Word(s) ensures consistency between eg: Functional/Principle Diagrams, Messages on Display Units, Placards, Labels, Markings and Technical Publications. For this reason, it is essential that the form and content shall remain constant in all applications. In addition, the Main Words of Functional Designations for items common to more than one Airbus Program/Project shall not change from one Program/Project to another, because of the repercussions on the Standardized Technological Descriptions and therefore on the documents that use them. To facilitate selection of Main Words, and to ensure consistency of content and form throughout all applications where Main Words are used, a catalog of the Standard Main Words to be used is included in the separate Appendix to this ABD: - Refer to Appendix F - Non Standard Items - Standard Main Words for Functional Designations. If any additions/amendments to the catalog should prove necessary, the catalog shall be completed using the procedure indicated in the Foreword to the Appendix on page FW-1. - The Principal Modifier shall reflect the function carried out by the item of equipment, in the particular aircraft, and System/Circuit involved. In some instances, it may include identifying information. eg: RELAY-LOW LEVEL IND, Y HYD RSVR PRESS SW-FUEL PUMP 1, L WING TANK Numerical suffixes must, if space permits, be separated from the term by a space. In the case of Panel-mounted items, eg: Pushbutton Switches, Annunciators, Circuit Breakers etc., there shall be consistency both as regards content and form between the Principal Modifier and the Labels on the Panels. These shall be presented in a cascade form, starting with the title of the Panel, each level being separated by a slash (/). eg: P/BSW - FLT CTL/FAC 1 P/BSW - FUEL/L TK PUMPS/1 - The Complementary Modifier shall give any related system, unit or location data. eg: RELAY - LOW LEVEL IND, Y HYD RSVR Abbreviations may be used in Principal and Complementary Modifiers. They shall be taken from ABD0037 - Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook (AAAH). However, the following abbreviations shall be used systematically: L for Left R Right ENG 1 Engine 1 ENG 2 Engine 2 CAPT Captain F/O First Officer AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 7 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 G Green (Hydraulic System) B Blue (Hydraulic System) Y Yellow (Hydraulic system) SYS System Numerical suffixes must, if space permits, be separated from the term by a space. Further examples of Functional Designations: FIN MAIN WORD PRINCIPAL MODIFIER COMPLEMENTARY MODIFIER 30GA 31GA 10LA PROX SENSOR PROX SENSOR LT - NLG DOORS CLOSED - NLG DOORS CLOSED - NAVIGATION SYS 1 SYS 2 R WING TIP 6-5 Rules for Naming - Standardized Technological Description 6-5-1 General The Standardized Technological Description identifies the nature and category of an item in general terms, eg: Proximity Sensor. Being independent of a specific function it allows the item to be used in several applications across several projects or programs. It shall be consistent with the title of the Technical Specification for the item and with the basic part of the Functional Designation. 6-5-2 Responsibility The reference document for Technical Specification title definition is the Functional Diagram/Principle Diagram. The responsibility for detail functional design is allocated to the NSDW Level 2. Any conflicts shall be settled with the Level 1 organization. The necessary coordination shall be ensured via the System Interface activities. 6-5-3 Form and Content of the Description - General The Standardized Technological Description shall reflect, as regards content but not necessarily form (the order of words may be different), the Main Word of the Functional Designation. This may be completed with any other technological information considered absolutely essential. However, the name shall be sufficiently general to allow for any future use in applications not originally envisaged. This means that in general, Standardized Technological Descriptions shall not be related to any specific type of aircraft or system. eg: Filter-Air Filter-Fuel Pump-Fuel Pump-Hydraulic Pump-Water AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 8 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 However, in some cases (eg: for computers), where the design of the equipment is so specific to a given function as to preclude any possibility of it being used for another function, mention of the system/function is accepted eg: Fuel Quantity Indication Computer (FQIC). Air Data Inertial Reference Unit (ADIRU). - Form of the Description The Standardized Technological Description consists of: a main identifying noun, complementary information relative to the operating mode/application of the item, if necessary, application information. The total not to exceed 21 characters including spaces and/or special characters such as dash/ comma. The main identifying noun shall be separated from the complementary information by a dash (-). Any additional information shall be separated from the rest by a comma (,). eg: Pump Pump-Hydraulic Valve-Fuel Valve-Fuel, Remote Ctl Valve-Pressure Holding In some instances some common items may be adopted for specific functions. In such a case this specific functional aspect may be included in the description. eg: Valve-Air, Skin Bearing-Steady, Kink As in the case of Functional Designations for Non Standard Items (eg: computers) usually identified by their abbreviations, the abbreviation shall be considered as the full description (i.e.: identifying noun plus complementary information). eg: Fuel Quantity Indication Computer (FQIC) Note: Every effort shall be made by systems specialists to restrict use of this type of abbreviation to major/complex equipment. Use of too many abbreviations of this kind does not enhance comprehension by airline mechanics and CMM users. - Description Consistency Every effort must be made to ensure consistency in the Standardized Technological Descriptions use in Airbus documents: both within the same project, whatever the supplier and whoever the Member, and from one Airbus project to another. 6-6 Naming - Application 6-6-1 Functional Designation Application The Functional Designation shall be used in all applications (Data Banks/Documents) where the FIN is the major means of identification. eg: - Functional Diagram * - Principle Diagram * - Related theoretical equipment definition list * - ATB ATA 100 Breakdown at 6 digit level (of the Aircraft Project concerned) - ECDB: Functional Designation field - Labels in cockpit AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 9 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 - Labels on structure near equipment/components - Installation drawings - Exterior markings - Messages on display units - Contractual Technical Publications * Note: At this stage of the Design phase, only the function to be fulfilled by an equipment is identified (not the selected technique: Supplier, Part Number and installation requirements). 6-6-2 Standardized Technological Description - The Standardized Technological Description shall be used in all applications (data banks/ documents) where the Item Technical Specification reference is the major means of identification in relation to a FIN(s): Non-Standard Item (Technical) Specification Title * ABD0007 - Equipment - General Technical Requirements * ABD0010 - Equipment - Specification * ABD0017/0100/0200 - Equipment - Off the shelf ECDB Equipment Central Data Bank Purchase activities at call for tender stage 6-6-3 Supplier's Technological Description - The Supplier's Technological Description shall be used in all applications (data banks/ documents) where the Item Part Number (PN) is the major means of identification in relation to a FIN(s): Non-Standard Item identification plate Bar codes ECDB: Supplier's description (in English) field Non-Standard Item supply related data/documents Aircraft Inspection Report (AIR) Purchase activities at contract signature stage. 6-7 Messages on Display Units: Applicable Rules From A340/A330, AIB is committed, by the Airlines to ensure a Cross Qualification of Air Crew and Maintenance Personnel (with reference to A320). 6-7-1 General Since the messages on Display Units are of prime importance for Aircraft Operation and Safety, special attention shall be paid to their establishment. Flight Test and Training organizations shall be involved. Messages on Display Units may be classified according to the following: - Information - Operational instructions - Status reports 6-7-2 Information This category covers two kinds of displays: - symbols related to instrumentation, - texts which generally use Functional Designations. 6-7-3 Operational Instructions The applicable rules are those related to Check List (on board the aircraft). AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 6 - 10 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 6-7-4 Status Reports The messages which are shown on display units are split into three blocks. - ATA Reference or: function concerned (Circuit/Installation), or the item involved. - FIN of the item(s) involved. - TEXT: either the Functional Designation of the function concerned, or a statement in the normal order of words incorporating the Main Word(s) of the Functional Designation of the equipment involved. This does not affect the rules for compiling Functional Designations. If the statement in the normal order of words is used, it shall be compiled by the NSDW Level 2 for the display unit software in conjunction with the System Specialist concerned. The statement shall be so written that the Flight Crews will be able to easily understand the message. This is of obvious importance in cases of emergency. Refer to ABD0048 and ABD0018 - Equipment - Electronics Maintainability and ABD0100/ABD0200 for new projects. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 7 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 7 Standard Items 7-1 General The term "Standard Item" relates generally to items that are widely used throughout an aircraft or across Aircraft Projects with no specific function allocation (eg: fasteners, electrical connectors). 7-2 Terminology Due to the complexity of the work organization/splitting, reference shall be made to ABD0032 for definition of Standardization Terminology and detailed information on procedures and practices related to standards activities within Airbus Industrie. 7-3 Identification of Standard Items Standard Part Numbers and associated Technological Descriptions are used. 7-3-1 Standard Part Number Ref: * ABD0032 - Standard Items Where Standard Items are used to ensure a specific function they are identified additionally in the engineering documents by means of Functional Item Numbers (FIN) and the associated Functional Designations in accordance with ABD0004 - Drawing System and ABD0036 - chapter 6-4. Note: Suppliers identify Standard Items either by the official Standard Part Numbers or by internally defined additional Part Numbers (proprietary PNs). 7-3-2 Standard Item Description The description consists of an introductory part (Main Word) identifying the general subject and of additional technological Information, where applicable. Ref: * ABD0032 - Standard Items - The complete description is used as a title on the Standard itself (reproduced in the Airbus Standards Manual). - Parts of the description are used, for example, in Design Office lists/handbooks/files/drawing schedules. In this case the name used shall: reflect that indicated on the relevant standard, be limited to the minimum amount of information required to categorize the item (the "Main Word" plus other information considered necessary). The specifications also indicate the associated reference directives. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 12 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 12 Modification Proposals and Modifications 12-1 General The definition of the design of an aircraft and any changes to the design are managed by a system of Modification Proposals (MP) which, when accepted for implementation, become Modifications (MOD). An MP is associated with a MOD by a Change Identification Number (CIN). To ensure that modification data can be stored in EDP systems, so facilitating its easy retrieval in order to define an aircraft configuration, it is essential that MPs and MODs shall be correctly numbered and titled. 12-2 Numbering The method of numbering of MPs and MODs is defined at the start of an Aircraft Project/Program by the appropriate General Modification Committee (GMC). Refer to Aircraft Configuration Management Rules (ACMR) which is an updated version of the earlier Airbus Industrie Modifications Handbook (AIMH). 12-3 Naming 12-3-1 General In naming, the term "Subject" applies only to MPs. The term "Title" is applied only to MODs/CINs/ Service Bulletins. It is important that names are correct and consistent as they are used for data extraction and enquiry purposes. Both MPs and MOD's require names and the rules for establishing names are common to both. As soon as a modification is certificated its title and the subjects of the associated MPs names should not be revised/amended. Consequently, they have to be correctly formulated at an early stage of definition. Titles for CINs depend on application (see 12-3-3-2) but generally follow the subject of the MP. The length of titles shall not exceed 3 lines of 39 characters (117 characters including spaces). Abbreviations shall be kept to a minimum and without exception shall comply with ABD0037 - Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook. 12-3-2 Content and Form 12-3-2-1 General MP subjects and MOD titles shall be written in accordance with the ATA Specification 100 rules for Service Bulletin titles. This avoids having to change subjects/titles for Service Bulletins. According to ATA Specification 100, the MP title shall generally consist of three categories of information: - Designation of the major affected ATA Specification 100 Chapter. - Designation of the major item affected. - Description of the modification objective. Detail considerations are explained in the following text. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 12 - 2 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 12-3-2-2 Major ATA Specification 100 Chapter Affected Great care shall be taken to select the correct ATA Specification 100 Chapter (2 digit level) as it determines the numbering of the affected Service Bulletins. The designation of the affected ATA Specifiication 100 Chapter shall be taken from the ATA 100 Breakdown applicable to the Aircraft Project/Program involved, eg: - Fuselage - Communications - Flight Controls Exceptionally, and only if necessary for comprehension, the ATA section or Sub-section designation, taken from the applicable ATA 100 Breakdown, may be added. eg: Water/Waste - Water Storage 12-3-2-3 Major Items Affected Generally it is necessary to state, after the ATA Specification 100 chapter: - the Designation of the Major Item involved eg: Flight Controls - Flap Actuators - or the location of the area affected, eg: Fuselage - Aft Intermediate Section Note: A/C Sections shall be identified by their name but never by their number (only known by Design and Production but never by customers). 12-3-2-4 Modification Objective Shall be a brief description of the objective to be attained on the aircraft. This shall be expressed in the imperative form. eg: Communications - Install Boomset Flight Controls - Flap Actuators - Modify Hub Flange This description shall not describe the reason for the MOD/MP, i.e. the origin of the problem or the work content (this is covered by the Technical Repercussion Sheet - TRS). 12-3-3 Titles of Change Identification Number (CIN) 12-3-3-1 General A CIN comprises a Modification Number and the associated MP number and these are inseparable. The Modification Number may precede the MP number or vice versa. Each CIN shall be allocated a significant title which reflects the purpose of the MP(s)/MOD(s). CIN titles are used in Technical Publications (for highlights in Manuals, Service Bulletin titles, etc.), so it is extremely important that both MP and MOD titles are significant and correct. Several cases of association between MP and MOD may occur. 12-3-3-2 One MP = One MOD The title of the MOD and the Subject of the MP shall be identical. 12-3-3-3 Two or More MP's = One MOD The modification itself may carry a general title allocated by the General Modification Committee (GMC) and each MP may have a different Subject. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 12 - 3 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 The Title allocated to each CIN shall be the same as the MP Subject (if accurate and acceptable). Examples: - 40YYYY/SYYYY1 Equipment/Furnishings - Define Cabin Layout for AFR - 40YYYY/DYYYY2 Lights - Lighted Signs - Install Bilingual Lighted Signs - 40YYYY/DYYYY3 Equipment/Furnishings - Cabin - Install Textile covered DADO Panels 12-3-3-4 Collective MODS Two or more MP's =one MOD. Identical rules as 12-3-3-3. 12-3-3-5 One MP Included In More Than One MOD Identical rules as 12-3-3-3. 12-3-4 Recommended Verbs 12-3-4-1 The following verbs are recommended for use in subjects and titles: - Definition : - define ............. to provide ............. to introduce ............. - Installation : - install ............. for provision of ............. - Validation: - validate ............. for ............. Customer/Standard - Definition Evolution: - modify ............. to adapt to improve to increase/decrease to re-design to replace to delete AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 13 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 13 Service Bulletins 13-1 General Service Bulletins (SB) are technical instruction documents issued to customers. There are several types of AIB Service Bulletins: eg: - Alert SBs. - SBs raised to cover modifications to be retrofitted by customers. - Inspection Service Bulletins (not further to a Mod). - Evaluation Service Bulletins (nor further to a Mod). - Service Bulletins raised by AIB to cover Vendor Service Bulletins. - Simplified Service Bulletins. - Advance Service Bulletins. 13-2 Numbering Refer to Airbus Industrie Service Bulletin Guide. 13-3 Titles All Service Bulletins raised to cover a single Mod/MP (CIN) shall be given the same title as the CIN involved. eg: Flight Controls - Flap actuactor Modify hub flange Where a Service Bulletin covers more than one CIN, or only part of a CIN, the SB title must be adapted from the CIN title but shall still follow the basic principles set out in Chapter 12 of this ABD. Titles of Inspection and Evaluation Service Bulletins for which there is no CIN number shall also follow the basic rules set out in Chapter 12 of this ABD. AIRBUS INDUSTRIE ABD0036 Numbering/Naming Page: 14 - 1 Issue: F Date: 3 May 2000 14 Conversion Instructions 14-1 General The purpose of Conversion Instructions is, in general, to cover retrofit of modifications at Airbus Industrie facilities under Airbus Industrie responsibility. Any Main Words not in the above three categories are left in full. The abbreviations used are all approved in ABD0037 Airbus Approved Abbreviations Handbook (AAAH). This list also includes Main Words used in the Airbus ATA 100 Breakdowns at 6 digit level for Assemblies or Structural Items. These do not have FINs but their designations are constructed in the same manner as those for items with FINs. If necessary, the main words listed can be used with the word "Assy" (assembly). They can also be used in the plural. Consequently, main words including the word "assy" are not included in the list, unless they cannot be used without "assy". The list does not include names of major assemblies, such as "aileron", "slat" or "spoiler", as these are listed in Appendix D - Constituent Assemblies. .
