SUSPENSION SYSTEM

We are using double wish bone type suspension on the front wheel and single pivot type suspension
on rear side which is simple in design and commonly used in bicycles.
ADVANTAGES OF FRONT SUSPENSION
It is more rigid than other suspensions.
Automatically provides negative camber during turning and wheel travel.
Consumes less vertical space.
Spring can be easily replaced for varying loads.
Vehicle can be turned easily and motion can be optimized.
ADVANTAGES OF REAR SUSPENSION
It is very simple to design and apply.
It is well implemented in most of the bicycles.
Swing arm is sufficiently rigid.
SPECIFICATIONS
Spring constant =149 N/mm
No of turns = 5
Mean diameter= 5.6 cm
Pitch =2 cm
Wire diameter = 0.75 cm
CALCULATIONS
Motion ratio = 1.77 [calculated by analysis in LOTUS]
Wheel rate = spring rate/(motion ratio) ^2
Wheel rate = 149/ (1.77) ^2
= 49.63 N/mm

STEERING
Trike contains trapezoidal steering arrangement for turning.
ADVANTAGES
Simple in design.
Wheels are turned through different angle so as to have common centre point.
Use of drag link for turning.
SPECIFICATIONS
Castor angle = 8.59 degrees
Kingpin inclination = 6.48 degrees
Trail = 1.5 inches

STEERING CALCULATIONS
Turing radius = (track width / 2) + (wheel base/ tan (SA))
SA = average steering angle
Wheel base = 59 inches
Track width= 49 inches
Turing radius = 2.4 m
