Im going to talk about Capital punishment or as we know it Death sentence, Death penalty

or Execution. My presentation will last about 10 minutes. First Im going to tell you more
about the punishment itself, then give you some arguments for and against it and finally tell
you my opinion.
The Capital punishment is the inflicting of death upon a person by judicial process as a
punishment for an offence. The term capital originates from the Latin capitalis, which literally
means "regarding the head". Punishment by severing of the head from the body was used for
millennia.
Currently 58 nations actively practice the Death penalty including China, India, USA and
Indonesia four of the most populous countries in the world. Capital punishment was
abolished in Bulgaria in 1998. And it is prohibited in the European Union.
Crimes that can result in a death penalty are known as capital crimes or capital offences,
such as murder, espionage, treason and, in some countries , sexual crimes, such as rape,
adultery, child abuse and incest .
Decapitation, impalement and burning at the stake were widely used in the past. Till the 20
th

century most often sentenced to death were shot. In the U.S., the electric chair and the gas
chamber were introduced as more humane alternatives. Nowadays the lethal injection is the
most used form of execution in most countries.
Death penalty is, undeniably, one of the most controversial issues of our day. There is a
disagreement between those who hold human life above justice and those who hold justice
above all human life. Although Capital punishment is practiced in many countries, I think this
wont solve societys problems with crime.
Most believe that killing a person is not humane, even if the criminal is not humane. It's
confusing when the Authorities claim that killing is wrong and then they do the same. Thats
how they show us that murder is actually allowed at some point. Other opponents of death
penalty think that everyone deserves a second chance. Yes, but isnt it fair to punish a
criminal exactly as he acted?
As a developed society, we believe that there is justice. Proponents of the death penalty
think that the punishment should fit the crime. Of course, if someone is killing innocent
people he should definitely feel the same. He deserves to suffer, to be scared to death and to
regret what he has done, knowing that it is too late. Yes, but thats not justice, thats desire
for revenge. This wont make us less upset and it wont solve the problem with the crime.
I dont support the Death penalty, but not because its inhumane. I think, the Capital
punishment is not a punishment at all. Death will only save the offender from taking
responsibility for his actions. The lethal injection is painless and the only thing that he will
feel is fear from death. Then what? God will punish him? Hell go to hell? I dont think so.
We need to be 100% sure that he will receive his punishment. As we know theres a hell and
its here on the Earth. Life sentence plus extra torture will do just fine for the guilty.
As a conclusion Ill say that everyone should suffer the consequences of their actions.
Heartless criminals do not deserve forgiveness or mercy. They deserve twice as much
violence than they did. Therefore the Capital punishment should be replaced with some
programs for tourturing and experimentation with the sentenced. Its inhumane and very
cruel, even more than the Death punishment, but in my opinion thats the best way to fight
crime.
