Part 1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose o Complete the task of Biology o Observed the content of nutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fats) in various foods
1.2 Theoretical Basis Carbohydrate is the main energy for living things especially for humans, it can be rice, maize, cassava, potatoes and wheat. If you want to prove the existence of a substance starch on foods then you can used Lugol or Iodine (both are liquid). Lugol/Iodine and extract food which containing carbohydrates are mixed, the liquid will turh in a blue color. Protein, it can be eggs, milk, fish, meat. If you to prove the existence of a substance starch on foods, then used Biurete, when biurete and foods that contain protein extract are mixed the color of that biurete will turn into purple. Fat, a source of fat fo example: cooking oil, meat, cheese, peanuts and butter. If you want to prove the fat content in foods, you can shed a little extract of the food to the paper, if that foods contain fat there will be a transparent stain. Part 2 MATERIALS and METHODS
2.1 Materials
Water newspaper/oil paper foods Pipette
Drop plate Mortar and Grinder Spatula
Biuret Iodine Reaction tube and shelf
2.2 Methods Preparation/ before test nutrient : 1. Grind food until its fine using mortar and grinder. 2. Put each food to drp plate (2) and tube (1) Test Nutrient : 1. Amylum test : Drop food which already fine in drop plate using spatula, put a little Iodine into it and see the changing color.
Iodine 2. Protein test : Drop food (in tube) with biuret. Observe!
Empty tube Biure tube already filled with little biuret 3. Lipid test : Spread food to newspaper/oil paper. Observe
Note : If the solution of food given iodines solution changes to dark blue and then the solution containing starch If the solution were given food and biuret solution turned purple then the solution containing protein If the paper were given a food and the paper proved to be transparent then the solution containing lipid
3.2 Discussion In the lab activities we use reagents that are used to determine the content of foods, among others : Iodine used to test whether a food containing carbohydrate (strach) or not. When the food we used as drops of iodine blackened, then the food contains carbohydrates. If the color are darker means the food contains a lot of carbohydrates. Biuret reagent is used to test the protein content. When foods contain proteins that react with the biuret it will produce the purple color/ violet color. Scrap paper is the basis for examining the fat content. Because newsprint easily absorb water/oil so its suitable for this test. In testing these fats in food that has been mashed in the rub on scarp paper after it is heated above the burner so that the water content is easy spirtus mongering, if there is a transparent stain that these foods contain fat. o Carbohydrate test From the observation by conducting research can be seen that the substance contains starch are rice and bread o Protein test Raw foods containing are protein are tempe, egg, bread, tahu Lipid test Once it is tested with opaque paper to see its fat content result. Raww foods containing fat are fried tempe, margarine, oil
Part IV CONCLUSION 4.1 Conclusion From these experiments we know that in order to determine wether there is any substance content carbohydrate, protein and fat in the foods we know to test food with lugol test, biuret test and paper test with opaque fat. We know that each food contain different nutrient and different function fo humans body.
