The graduates of the Master program
Algology and Mycology will have abilities
to analyze qualitative and quantitative
composition of the algal flora / mycobiota of
different habitats or regions of the country
for fundamental and monitoring
investigations, including their restoration
and management;
to make assessments of different types of
ecosystems;
to work easily with wide spectrum of
modern methods used in taxonomy and
ecology of algae and fungi;
to cultivate algae and fungi for different
purposes (incl. medicine and
biotechnological products) and for
taxonomical needs as well;
to make reconstruction of palaeo-
ecological conditions of ancient basins;
to qualify diatoms for industrial needs;
to make biostratigraphical analysis for
age determination of sediment rocks since
Cretaceous period.

The Master program in Algology and
Mycology includes the following topics:
cytology, morphology, genetics, physio-
logy and biochemistry, variability,
taxonomy, evolution and phylogeny,
distribution, ecology and importance of
algae, fungi and lichens, and their
biodiversity as well. The students will
become acquainted with algae and fungi
as sources of medicinal substances and
their application in modern medicine
and biotechnology, with methods for
collecting and mapping, for laboratory
and industrial cultivating, with
sustainable use and protection of fungal
and algal resources.
The continuation of education is
three semesters, in which the 1st and 2nd
include lectures and practical courses,
and the 3rd is aimed on writing of
master thesis.
The program of education includes 7
obligatory (for each module) and 2
chosen disciplines, which can be chosen
among the general list of 20 courses.
The evaluation of knowledge is based
on European Credits Transfer System
(ECTS), where the whole program bears
90 credits.
