PERIMETA
Purpose-built for distributed deployments within both the control and
transport layers of emerging next-generation networks, the Perimeta
architecture comprises two distinct components: a Signaling Session
Controller (SSC) and Media Session Controller (MSC). Data volumes
are intensifying and the relationship between signaling and media is
becoming increasingly divided. Conforming to 3GPP specifcations for
decomposed SBC functions, our unique solution enables independent,
cost efective scaling of these critical control elements.
Where consolidation of these individual components is preferred,
the Perimeta Integrated Session Controller (ISC) combines both
SSC and MSC elements within a single platform, without sacrifcing
performance or scalability.
DISTRIBUTED
The 6320 Integrated Session Controller is specifcally designed to
handle the rapidly rising proportion of signaling messages, data rates
and number of IP endpoints in next generation networks. The ISC
is built to operate in rich unifed communications environments,
facilitating the explosive growth in SIP messages brought on by
services such as sim-ring, presence and IM.
Although signaling growth will outpace media, the ISC is ideally
suited to supporting the wideband audio and bandwidth-intensive
high defnition video streams that are making up a larger percentage
of fixed and mobile broadband calls. While integrated within a
common platform, the two distinct functions operate autonomously in
a distributed manner. The Perimeta architecture also allows the media
processing capacity of the ISC to be augmented through the addition
of MSCs under the control of the ISC.

PERFORMANCE
Offered exclusively on a high availability commercial off-the-shelf
(COTS) ATCA platform, the 6320 has been designed for performance.
Leveraging interrupt mitigation and zero copy packet extraction
techniques, the ISCs multi-core, multi-threaded software architecture
delivers superior packet and SIP message throughput while
performing high-touch functions such as packet marking and
header manipulation.
Featuring 1:1 signaling and transport redundancy, a single 6320 ISC
can scale to sustain 12,000 concurrent SIP and RTP sessions with
a combined throughput of 1.5Gbps. With sub 1ms latency across
the platform, a single 6320 can support 1.4 million busy hour call
attempts (BHCA). Whether supporting voice session control, or
managing chat and presence sessions, or providing a mixture of the
two, the 6320 ISC can support up to 2,800 messages per second.
CONTROL
Perimeta offers unmatched, granular ingress packet coloring,
connection admission control and rate limiting of messages. These
techniques reduce the probability of congestion, thereby preventing
damaging network-wide retransmission storms while guaranteeing
low, reliable, post dial delay metrics. By classifying trafc and
constantly measuring elements such as registration, call set-up
and message rate, the ISC can prioritize messages related to calls
in-progress. Active queue management intelligently handles new
session establishment requests.
The 6320 ISC can intelligently manage and restrict bandwidth
utilization by both interconnect peers and individuals. Critical when
maintaining strict quality of service guarantees, the ISC can also read,
then mark or re-mark the IP diferentiated services code point (DSCP)
feld. This ensures the expedited forwarding of voice and assured
forwarding of video streams by upstream and downstream network
switch/router elements.
ROUTING
Evolving all-IP communications networks are depending on an
increasing number of peering interconnects to deliver ubiquitous
service across physical and logical domains. Sophisticated and
granular control of trafc traversing these trunks is required to
ensure that sessions are handled as efciently and cost-efectively
as possible, when they egress the host carriers infrastructure.
Comprehensive policies and dynamic routing functions can be
applied to all calls passing through the 6320 ISC platform. Along
with providing source and destination number, CIC or domain-based
routing, sessions may be directed to specifc trunks using static,
least-cost or time-of-day parameters. The 6320 can also automatically
detect the availability of adjacent peers or load-balance across
trunks with identical costs.
ANALYSIS
Integrating with the exclusive MetaView Service Assurance Server,
Perimeta session border controller platforms export call detail records
down to the individual SIP and H.248 packet payload. Enabling
comprehensive always-on post-analysis, without the need to deploy
expensive distributed packet capture probes, individual call traces
include every internal routing and processing decision made by the
Integrated Session Controller; insight that can dramatically reduce
mean-time-to-repair metrics.
Perimeta also exports detailed unsampled call quality records
to the MetaView Service Assurance Server. Combining these
with records collected from other network elements and
endpoints, MetaView can provide objective quality of experience
measurements while delivering a comprehensive end-to-end
view of overall network performance. The 6320 ISC delivers total
visibility without degrading router performance or implementing
costly network analytics components.
