Unsung heroes of franchising
McDonald's (MCD), Popeyes (PLKI), Domino's Pizza (DPZ), and Dunkin' Brands (DNKN) are all part of a
growing contingent on Main Street that is poised for growth this year. The franchising industry has become
an integral part of the American economy, contributing 3.5 percent of U.S. GDP, or $472 billion. It's expected
to create more jobs and grow faster than the rest of the private sector in 2014, according to research
conducted by IHS Global Insight for the International Franchise Association Educational Foundation.
Overall, the number of franchise categories is expanding into nearly every nook and cranny in the
marketplace. Here we profile entrepreneurs who have reaped millions by carving a toehold in novel market
niches where they could leverage their skills and past experiences and capitalize on some big trends in the
U.S. economy, from doggie day care and mosquito exterminators to shipping depots. Read on to learn
lessons from eight franchise owners who have moved beyond some well beyond the million-dollar
annual sales mark.

Camp Bow Wow. Good idea, but why spend the money to buy into the company for a franchise
when you can do the same thing yourself. In most cases I'm all for a franchise, but this is one that
you can go it alone. Why not, they did it.

Then there is Bow Wow. Instead of spending a lot of money for a stranger to watch a pet. I ask my
brother. No cost and the pet is in trusted hands and not a stranger.

Not surprised at the Brightstar Care buisiness raking in millions. But, I do not believe it is the aging
"baby boomers." In fact, what are Baby Boomers? Have not babies "boomed" for ages? I believe it
is more the "ask your doctor" ads addicting and killing people slowly. Those ads should be
outlawed but when we have outlaws for leaders, what can we expect. In my area, I see all sorts of
"home health" and "hospice" along with "assisted living" and new and bigger nursing homes
springing up. And, the local legal drug dealers are making home deliverires now like pizza. When
the whitecoats and legal drug lords make people too weak to get to the legal drug store, they take
the pills out to them until they call the funeral home. I hope God returns and destroys this nation
soon!!!!
