Learner successes
Congratulations to this years
Adult Learner Award winners!
We will be celebrating their
achievements at a fun family
event on July 18 at the Rivers

forward to sharing stories like
Fozias, a mother of four
including triplets.
Fozia Abid has been ofered a place at Northampton
University to train as a Primary teacher. She says: My
learning experience with Adult Learning has been
amazing. My jouney began with basic maths, science
and English up to GCSE level. The support I received
from the tutors and staf was excellent. I am very
thankful to the tutors and support staf for making my
dream come true.

Essential enrolment information
Cancellation and Refund Policy
We may, regretfully, have to cancel courses if we do not receive enough
enrolments, or close them if there is a high level of non-attendance or
withdrawal. In these circumstances you will be informed as soon as
possible by text where possible through PageOne and a refund will be
made by crediting your credit/debit card or by cheques. It is not possible
for us to make refunds in cash.
However, to avoid disappointing learners who enrol on courses which do
not attract quite enough learners to be fully viable, ACE reserves the right
to adjust the course length. For example a course may be delivered more
intensively and end a week early. Under these circumstances no refunds
or partial refunds will be possible.
Session cancellation due to extreme weather
Wherever possible we will ofer replacement or extended sessions to
make up for sessions cancelled due to extreme weather, tutor illness or
other unforeseen reason. In the unusual event that this is not possible, we
will recompense learners by issuing a pro-rata credit or learning voucher
against a future course.
Cancellation or transfer by the learner
If you need to withdraw from a course and inform us in writing at least 10
working days before the course is due to start, you will be eligible for a
refund of all fees minus a 30 administration charge. If you withdraw from
a course at any other time, you will not be eligible for a refund. However,
in exceptional circumstances and at our discretion, we may be able to
ofer some credit against a future course.
Requests to transfer courses may also incur a 30 administration charge
unless recommended by your tutor or a member of ACE staf because a
course at a diferent level will better meet your learning needs.
Withdrawal from 24+ Advanced Learning Loan courses
We will retain your deposit of 100 if you do not take up a place ofered
on a course eligible for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan, unless your loan
application has not been successful. We will also retain your deposit if you
withdraw early from such a course, regardless of the circumstances of

Coming back to language learning after a break and not sure of your level?

Visit www.linguanet-worldwide.org a multi-lingual online resource which will help you check your level
Talk to our languages advisor on 01908 556705
Continuing your language learning?
Do you know your place on the Languages Ladder?
If you already hold any Languages Ladder certifcates, make sure your new tutor knows which skills you have passed
at which levels. See www.assetlanguages.org.uk

Measure your progress on the Languages Ladder
How do you climb the Languages Ladder?
1 What is the Languages Ladder?
The Languages Ladder (Asset Languages) is a scheme which rewards your language learning achievements and
helps you chart your progress.
2 How does it work?
The Languages Ladder (Asset Languages) gives you the opportunity to focus on the language skills you need - -
listening, speaking, reading and writing and helps you to identify more easily which class you should join. You
can start at Grade 1 in any skill and work your way up!
3 Do I have to do the assessment?
No, it is entirely optional, although most learners decide they would like to have their progress recognised.
Feedback from learners indicates that the step-by-step approach helps them build confdence and makes learning
easier.
4 When and where do these assessments take place?
Most assessments take place in the classroom and are very informal. This kind of assessment is part of the course
and it is unlikely that you will notice it happening! You might, for example, be asked to do an exercise as a group or
with a partner and the teacher will take the opportunity to listen in to what is going on.
5 How do I fnd out more about the Languages Ladder?
Your tutor should be able to give you more information, you can talk to our languages advisor on 01908 556705

made by crediting your credit/debit card or by

However, to avoid disappointing learners who enrol

adjust the course length. For example a course may
be delivered more intensively and end a week early.
Under these circumstances no refunds or partial
refunds will be possible.

Music Faculty
Community Learning MK
www.milton-keynes.gov.uk/clmk Tel: 01908 556700
Music education helps everyone to develop skills in a number
of areas; fexibility, the ability to solve problems, the confdence
to learn new skills, to be creative and innovative, and to strive
for excellence. It can help provide a strong sense of
determination, improved communication skills and have a
positive impact on intellectual development.
The Music Faculty (previously known at the Music Service)
delivers the Totally Music programme in schools all over
Milton Keynes where nearly 6,000 children experience the
pleasure of learning a musical instrument. The programme
supports schools in delivering their Music Strategy, provides
whole class instrumental tuition and curriculum projects as
well as large group instrumental tuition. It encourages children
to develop a love of music and ensures that they have the
opportunity to sing and learn a musical instrument as well as to
perform as part of an ensemble or choir.
At the Music Centres based at Shenley Brook End school and
Simpson on Saturday mornings almost 1,000 young people
join in various ensembles and orchestras. The Music Centre
aims to give children an enjoyment of music while striving for
the very highest standards for those students who wish to
pursue music more seriously.
