Find the unit on your network, open a web browser pointed to that IP address, and then log into it.

Its best to start with a fresh confguraton by going to the Advanced menu and entering factory reset in
the CLI command box and clicking Submit.

This will pop up a CLI command window with the results of the command.

Next, enter apply into the CLI command box and click Submit.

Then, enter save into the CLI command box and click Submit.

Lastly enter reboot system into the CLI command box and click Submit. This command will not receive
a response.

Close the CLI command window and afer a minute or so, refresh the main browser window. When the
unit is back up, you should log back in again.
Once logged in, click Quick Confg, and then click Contnue when the following warning appears.

First, set the country to your locaton, and then click Submit and accept any popups that appear to
confrm the setng.

Next, set up the unit for a statc IP address on your network, and click Submit when done.

This will require a reboot of the system.

While your gateway reboots, open a new browser window and connect to your STAC VIP. Log in as
an administrator and open the confguraton page. Create a new SIP provider with the type of SIP
Gateway. Confgure the name and color as you wish. Refer to the STAC VIP User Manual if you need
help with this.
In the Account Informaton secton, note the Username. This is assigned by the STAC VIP, and you will
need it to confgure your gateway device. Set a password, and note it as you will also need this for
confguring your gateway.
In the SIP Setngs secton, set the IP address to the statc address where you confgured your gateway
earlier. Also, note the Gateway Binding Port, which is assigned by the STAC VIP.

Next, assign the SIP gateway provider to one or more lines. Consult the STAC VIP user manual for more
details.

Log back into your Vega gateway device, once again click Quick Confg and go to the VoIP secton.
Make the following setngs under VoIP Device Confguraton, substtutng your STAC VIP address in
place of the 192.168.1.170 address shown, and substtutng the username and password from your
STAC VIP gateway confg for the Registraton and Authentcaton ID and Authentcaton Password.
Once you have made all of the required changes, click Submit.

Note that the Vega user interface is quite fussy and atempts to disable (gray out) various
felds on this page, and that you may need to re-set previously made setngs in order to
enable felds for data entry.

Next, click Expert Confg on the lef, and then Dial Plan. On the right, click Call Presentaton Groups.

Add a new group as follows:

Next, modify the To_FXO dial plan.

Delete all of the entries except for Plan ID #1, but selectng them and clicking Delete.

Change the setngs for the remaining plan as follows and click Submit.

Next, go back to the Dial Plan screen and modify the To_SIP dial plan.

Delete all but the frst entry in the dial plan.

Then, edit the remaining frst entry as follows:

Destination: IF:9901,TEL:external-14
NOTE: Replace external-14 with the username given to you in your STAC VIP SIP Gateway
confguraton.

When you are done, click Submit.

Next, go to the POTS confguraton secton under Expert Confg. Under Port ID All select ON under the
Caller ID column. Click Submit when you are done.

Providing you correctly chose your country setng earlier, usually the FXO Port Hardware Profles
defaults are correct, however you may specifcally wish to check the following:
In our testng in the US, we found that making the setngs above works well with our telephone lines.
Next, go to SIP under Expert Confg. Click on Modify under SIP Profles.

Change the Request-URI Port under SIP Profle 1 Proxy Parameters 1 to the Gateway Binding Port (as
noted in the STAC VIP confguraton, page 6) and click Submit.
Change the Registraton Request-URI Port under SIP Profle 1 Registraton Parameters 1 to the
Gateway Binding Port and click Submit.

Click on Modify under Chg? to edit the values for Proxy 1.
Change the Port to the Gateway Binding Port and click Submit.

Next, go back to SIP Profle screen and click on Modify under Chg? to edit the values for SIP Registrar 1.
Change the Port to the Gateway Binding Port and click Submit.

Next, under the Advanced secton, enter in the following into the CLI Command feld and click Submit:
set pots.profle.2.callerid_type=gr30-mdmf

You should get a popup dialog with the following:

Lastly, click through Apply Changes, then Save, then Reboot System.

Wait for the system to reboot.

Connect up to six POTS lines to the frst six FXO ports on your gateway box. Test operaton with STAC
VIP by calling into the numbers and notng that STAC VIP lines show ringing.
You can test outgoing calls by clicking Call on a STAC VIP line, entering in a number to dial, then clicking
the green Call buton.

TECHNOTE ADDENDUMS
Since the frst release of this technote, there have a couple of issues reported. The following pages show
the steps to change the setng for resolving these issues.
CHOPPY AUDIO
Under the Media setng, in the Media Capability table, the g711Alaw64k entry needs to have a
change made to it. If Packet Time is 30, you will hear choppy audio. To fx: Click Modify on that item
and change it to 20. Apply and Save the changes.

GATEWAY STUCK IN INITIALIZING STATE AFTER A STAC VIP RESTART
In the SIP menu, click Modify on SIP Profle 1 (shown in red below):

Scroll down to the botom of the Modify page and look for Registraton Expiry Time(s). Its set to 600
seconds (10 minutes) by default. Reducing this to 60 seconds makes the gateway re-register once
per minute with the VIP, thus it comes back from initalizing more quickly without requiring a reboot.
Submit, Apply, and Save the changes.
