A few days ago I saw a movie called BloodWork (2012)
From an entertainment perspective the movie althogh is not a hit it!s a good movie"
#he film is a$ot some volnteers who entered to a pharma stdy with a very good salary to test a new
medicine% $t they got terri$le side&effects"
If this doesn!t happen in the real world it wold $e science fiction% nfortnately it!s something that
happens and is totally real% We know a$ot the infamos and crel e'periments on syphilis many years
ago of corse these (e'periments) had tragic conse*ences"
Another case a few years ago occrred in +,A% the -ornalist .iam ,cheff did a great investigation
docmented the crel e'periments that were made in an orphanage in the +nited ,tates with yong
children with the poisonos drgs sed to treat /0I1/
And of corse they have taken place many other cases of this kind of e'periments that are illegal%
inhman and deadly% they don!t have any -stification"
I have a personal anecdote in 2002 I was working in a compter school% and one day a
co worker asked me if I want to win a good money3
From the $eginning of his *estion I saw this very sspicios% and I asked him what want to tell me"
0e told me that he was working in a Big 4harma company like volnteer giving his $ody to test
medicines and their side effects in the long&term% he said me that he was receiving many in-ections of
these medicines"
0e offered me to participate as a /volnteer/ in pharmacetical e'periments in which they
in-ect approved medicines to see possi$le long&term reactions% he also told me that
a compter teacher who was working in this school was participating in these /e'periments/ and with
this money was paying the +niversity"
#his person told me that the pay was 5%000 pesos per day (6278 +,9) which is a very attractive salary
in a contry like :e'ico where 22; of workers earn very poor salaries"
Also told me that this people for each day when yo stay in their $ilding they provided yo three
meals per day% yor own room with $ed and #1% and they make yo a complete clinical and $lood tests
to check yor health $efore yo enter to the e'periments"
<f corse I didn!t accept this /work/% and at that time I had some knowledge of science%
and I woldn!t pt my health in risk at any price% health is the most vala$le thing that a person can
have"
I don!t know a$ot this person rigth now who offered me to -oin to this chemical /adventre/
Bt I can!t forget this anecdote when I saw the movie some days ago"
I remem$er other movies of this style like the =onstant >ardener film where the theme is similar"

I don!t deny that many drgs are very sefl and save lives% $t also I can!t deny that more than 200%000
people die every year de to side effects of drgs and?or medical errors and this is only in the +nited
,tates"
And now with the new n-stified hysteria with @$ola% they will test vaccines and dangeros medicines
in volnteers% and nfortnately fear is a very dangeros enemy in =hina a few years ago many people
ac*ired some type of AI9, that had nothing to do with an invisi$le retrovirs% $t with very severe
pho$ias"

5&:ost importantly% patients deserve to know all the information of the treatment that they will receive"
