INTRODUCTION

Honiron is established in the sugar industry as an engineering and design company as well as an equip-
ment manufacturer. In addition, Honiron is also at the forefront in research and development of new tech-
nologies. One such area that we have been working on is the development of a liquid sugar production
plant. The new process that we have developed can be implemented into an existing factory or it can be
used as a stand-alone process.

PROCESS DESCRIPTION

The Honiron method for the production of liquid sugar is by melting, de-ashing and decolorizing raw cane
sugar.

Raw sugar is melted, filtered and passed through a set of ion exchange columns in series.
Decolorization is achieved with a special adsorbent and sterilization is performed with UV.
The technology fulfills CFR (Code of Federal Regulations from the Food and Drug Administration) re-
quirements and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices) recommendations.

FEED STOCK
Raw Cane Sugar
Pol: minimum 98.0
Color: up to 3,000 IC (@ 420 nm)
Note: IC stands for ICUMSA units

FINAL PRODUCT
Liquid Sugar
Pol: minimum 99.8
Color maximum 35 IC (420 nm) (Bottlers Specifications)

CAPACITY

Units are available in capacities from 2.0 tons up to 100.0 tons of liquid sugar per day, capacities calculated on
a dry sugar basis. (approx. 3.0 to 150.0 tons liquid)

2.0 to 15.0 tons per day plants are skid mounted, modular and custom designed.

Capacities larger than 15.0 tons per day are modular and custom designed.

OPERATING COSTS

Operating costs are subject to the fluctuations in chemical prices, energy costs and the quality of the raw sugar
(color and pol).

For illustrative purposes starting with raw sugar (A sugar) at 1,000 IC color and 98.5 pol, and for a 50 tons
per day plant capacity, operating costs are under US$ 14.
00
per ton of sugar (Under 0.7 cts per pound) includ-
ing chemicals, energy and maintenance costs.

Note: The above illustration does not include labor cost.
