%orkspaces to communicate results to line:of:business managers as interacti*e managed %orkspaces. <ecause )ognos Insight supports %rite:back( you can also
use these %orkspaces to gather and consolidate management targets( commitments( and forecasts.
I<9 )ognos Insight is a*ailable in stand:alone editions as %ell as pro*isioned to you as part of your e$isting role.

<efore you import( you should be a%are that the source data is mapped in the follo%ing %ays0
)olumns %ith a te$t data type are added as dimensions( and the columns %ith a numeric data type are typically added as measures.
he first ro% of data is used as labels or headers for each column.
! total is added to each dimension.
About this task
If the 9icrosoft #$cel %orkbook contains se*eral %orksheets( only the data on the current %orksheet is imported. 2or e$ample( if you %ant to import the data
that is on %orksheet 3( sa*e the %orkbook %ith %orksheet 3 as the *isible %orksheet. >hen you import from the %orkbook( only the data on %orksheet 3 is
imported. !nother option is to use the Im!ort 'imensions or Im!ort 'ata commands.

&ome formulas and functions that are used in 9icrosoft #$cel %orkbooks are not imported. he solution is to create a copy of the affected column in the
9icrosoft #$cel %orkbook and to use the 4aste &pecial command to paste the *alues of the column. @ou can also sa*e the %orkbook as a .cs* file and then
import the .cs* file.
Reports must be a simple tabular list report %ith no unresol*ed prompts.
@ou cannot schedule an import of a report %hen in connected mode. @ou must use the Guided $efresh command or the ilent $efresh command.

importing a cube. @ou can change the mapping type to dimension( le*el( attribute( or measure.
! dimension is a broad grouping of related data about a ma8or aspect of your business. 2or e$ample( you ha*e a dimension called 4roducts.
! le*el represents related data %ithin a hierarchy. 2or e$ample( the 4roducts dimension contains le*els called 4roduct 6ine and 4roduct ype.
!n attribute is a characteristic of a member that the business %ants to quantify. 2or e$ample( the 4roducts dimension contains attributes called )olor and
&i"e.
! measure is a performance indicator that is quantifiable and used to determine ho% %ell a business is operating. 2or e$ample( useful measures may be
Duantity &old or Re*enue.

If you are importing a dimension %ith multiple le*els and the member names are not unique( select the )ualify member names check bo$ and specify
a character for the separator.
If member names are all unique( clear the )ualify member names check bo$.
!n e$ample of non:unique members at the same le*el is the @ears dimension. #ach year contains a first quarter and each first quarter contains Ganuary.
!n e$ample of non:unique members at different le*els is the 'orth !merica dimension. 7ntario is listed as a city in )alifornia and 7ntario is listed as a
pro*ince in )anada.

o create a member that displays a total for the dimension( ensure that the Create total element check bo$ is selected. c.

&elect additional columns and define their mapping type. !ny columns that you drag to an e$isting cube can be measures or attributes. @ou cannot
change them to be dimensions or le*els.
