Ready to make some ice

Aaron Johnson, foreground, and Tom Pewitt got the tedious job of laying
perfatape around the edge of the inside hockey rink as the refrigerated
floor at the Valley Event Center finally dropped down to around 26 last
night. With unseasonably warm temperatures for both highs and lows,
it took much longer than it normally does. The perfatape around the
entire ring (approximately 500 feet) keeps water from leaking under
the boards and making an icy mess outside the rink. Johnny Peterson
came up with the idea, Roger Hystad (at right) explained, and it works
pretty slick. And it didnt take long before Aaron came up with a pair of
knee pads. The first of several layers of ice will be completed tonight
and the process will continue through the weekend. The first day of
hockey practice is on Saturday, November 1st.

Ladies and Livestock: Life on the Ranch is now available

DONT LET THESE PRICES CREEP YOU AWAY

Ladies and Livestock: Life on
the Ranch, the second book in the
Montana Family Ranching Series,
from the Research and Education
Endowment Foundation of the
Montana Stockgrowers Association
(REEF), was released on October
1. The digital book is a pictorial
explanation of Montana women
and their roles in the ranching
community.
Women are often described
as the backbone to the ranch and
we want to capture what that means
in this book, said Lauren Chase,
author and photographer.

Ladies and Livestock is leading
the way in multimedia technology
and storytelling as it is being
released in digital format instead
of print. Available in the Apple
iBook store, readers will be able to
download Ladies and Livestock to

their iPads and flip through the

vivid imagery with the swipe
of their fingers.
This
book
features
over 130 pages of stories,
photographs and video
features of the ladies who
raise livestock, care for
the land, and build their
families
legacies
on
Montana ranches. Not
only are these Montana
women working on the
ranch, many have jobs
in town, volunteer in
their
communities,
and are involved in the
legislation process of
issues affecting agriculture.

Ladies and Livestock is the
second in a series of book featured
in the Montana Family Ranching
Series. The first edition, Big Sky

released in 2012,

Ladies continued

Montana cowboy and is available in print edition from

the Montana Stockgrowers Association by visiting bit.
ly/BigSkyBootshttp://mtbeef.org/family-ranching/.
This series is meant to help people understand
what it takes to make a Montana ranch operate
successfully and also, to show the wonderful ranch
families that make it possible. Creating the book for
the iPad is really exciting for us because we can reach
new audiences much easier through digital means,
said Chase.
By utilizing the digital technology, Ladies and
Livestock adds a new dimension to reading a book.
Included on nearly 30 of the pages are video features
that play with the touch of the finger. These videos
show interviews of the ladies speaking on their ranch
history, family life and how they feel about being part
of Montanas agriculture.

This book is a multimedia journey through the life
of a woman on a Montana ranch. Not only can readers
see photographs, but can hear the woman tell her own
story and see the emotion on her face as she talks about
how important her family is to her.

The book can be downloaded for $14.99 in the Apple
iBook store by searching title: Ladies and Livestock.
Proceeds from the sales of the book contribute to the
Montana Stockgrowers Associations Foundation to
help support educational programs and scholarships
for youth.

Question: Why didnt
the lifeguard save the
hippie?

Answer: Because he
was too far out man!

There was a prison break and I saw a midget climb

up the fence. As he jumped down her sneered at me
and I thought, well thats a little condescending.

Harvest Festival is a special tradition we

observe each year to celebrate Gods harvest
of souls and work done through missions; also
thanksgiving for how God has blessed the
yield of our farmers/ranchers. Lance Lanning
is our guest speaker this year. He represents
Provision International.
PROVISION International is a worldwide
Christian ministry of outreach that strives to
meet the needs of the earths less fortunate and
downtrodden populace. They are committed to
networking resources to serve people in areas
of great need.

You are invited to stay after worship for our Harvest meal.

I am writing this letter in response to Deputy Alex

Estevess article posted in the 9 Oct 14 BS Buzz. First
and foremost I would like it to know that I have the
utmost respect for someone who will not only stand up
for their current boss but to also go on record making
attributes for said boss.
As with most elections the closer they get it seems
that a moratorium is in effect on hiring, firing, and
dismissal of new employees. Backing up ones current
employer does not always guarantee job security.

I would like to point out that you stated your notice
of yard signs that Joe Horn has out, but neglected to state
that Glenn Meier also has yard signs not to mention
the HWY signs that state Glenn Meier Sheriff . I should
know for I have one outside my north window that is
quite large. If you have trouble seeing them, they are
blue and white in color.
In your article you state you worked with Officer
Horn. I do not feel that 10 minutes qualifies you to obtain
an adequate work experience with him. I would like to
know what happened during that 10 minute time period.
In your article you make several statements but
present no facts to back up your statements. One is,
Glenn has brought millions of dollars in State and
Federal grants but I am having a hard time locating the
money. Maybe thats because most of it is being spent
out of Valley County. I really dont know because I am
not in the inner circle as you are so I guess I will just have
to take your word for that. Another one is that Glenn,
sits on several state boards. You would have added
more credence to this statement had you listed some of
the boards he sits on. As for other Sheriffs in this state
seeing him as a leader, I would venture to say that is an
internal matter because I have yet to see him receiving
any awards by them or his praise being written up in
our local paper. Mind you Im not saying its not so, but
I have no knowledge of your facts. Wait; there were not
facts, just your opinion.
I have known Glenn for 15 years, mind you I have
not worked for him as you have but living in a small
community everyone knows of everyone, but neighbors
and friends are something different.
Finally you asked if anyone would work for Joe
Horn and my answer is I would. Both have goals to
make our county better, so single out Horns goals goes
to your loyalty to your current boss and as stated earlier
my respect for standing by your current boss.
