THE SESSION OF THE NEW CIK-FIA HOMOLOGATIONS IS COMPLETED

1st January 2010 will mark the beginning of the validity of the new homologations of engines
and accessories. In Karting, the homologation of equipment is renewed every three years by
turns between chassis, tyres and engines. 2010 corresponds to a three-yearly engine homolo-
gation session. As a reminder, the CIK-FIA engine regulations had changed in 2007, with
the introduction of 125cc KF engines instead of the 100cc used until then. KF engines have
the distinctive feature of being water-cooled 2-stroke 125cc engines with reed box inlet, and
fitted in particular with a balance shaft, an ignition with a rev limiter, a clutch and an electric
starter.

Ten KF engine makes will be homologated for a 9-year period from 1st January 2010 and
have passed the inspection carried out by the CIK-FIA Officials at their headquarters. The
minimum production quantity, the means of production and the compliance of the companies
concerned with the status of “Manufacturer” as defined in the Homologation Regulations have
been checked. The CIK-FIA has subsequently introduced a new procedure for the homolo-
gation of these KF engines, adding to the traditional visit of the Manufacturers’ premises a
session at the FIA administrative headquarters in Geneva for the complete dismounting of the
new engines to be homologated. This operation was conducted to ensure the perfect compli-
ance of the engines produced by the Manufacturers with the detailed identity form published
within the framework of the homologation. The ten makes newly homologated are: BMB,
Comer, FIM, Parilla, Lenzokart, Maranello, Maxter, TM, VKR and Vortex.

This homologation session was also the opportunity for the Manufacturers of KZ engines,
carburettors, ignitions and inlet silencers to renew their products. Eleven new KZ engines
have been homologated, by the following makes: BMB, CRS, De Bei, Lenzokart (2 models),
Maranello, Maxter, Parilla, SGM, TM and Vortex. The makes of the new homologated igni-
tions are FIM, PVL and Vering; those of the new inlet silencers are Free Line, KG and Righetti
Ridolfi. As for carburettors, the new homologated models are by the makes Bolex, HHC, IBEA,
JHC and Tryton.

The homologations of engines (KF & KZ), carburettors, ignitions and inlet silencers carried out
in 2007 remain valid until 2015.

LA SESSION DES NOUVELLES HOMOLOGATIONS CIK-FIA EST BOUCLéE

Le 1er janvier prochain marquera le début de validité des nouvelles homologations de
moteurs et accessoires. En Karting, les homologations de matériel sont renouvelées tous les
trois ans, selon une tournante entre châssis, pneumatiques et moteurs. 2010 correspond à
une session d’homologation triennale pour les moteurs. On se souvient que la réglementation
CIK-FIA en matière de moteurs avait changé en 2007, avec l’introduction des moteurs KF de
125cc en lieu et place des 100cc jusqu’alors utilisés. Les moteurs KF ont la particularité d’être
des propulseurs 2-temps de 125cc à admission par clapets, refroidis par eau, notamment
équipés d’un arbre d’équilibrage, d’un allumage avec limiteur de régime, d’un embrayage et
d’un démarreur électrique.

Dix marques de moteurs KF seront homologuées au 1er janvier prochain pour une période de
neuf années et ont satisfait à l’inspection menée par les Officiels de la CIK-FIA en leur siège.
La quantité minimale de production, les moyens de production et la conformité des sociétés
concernées avec le statut de “Constructeur” tel que défini par le Règlement d’Homologation
ont été vérifiés. Dans un deuxième temps, la CIK-FIA a mis en place une nouvelle procédure
pour ces homologations de moteurs KF, en ajoutant à la traditionnelle visite des installations
des Constructeurs une séance de démontage complet des nouveaux propulseurs au siège
administratif de la FIA à Genève. Cette opération a été conduite pour s’assurer de la parfaite
conformité des moteurs produits par les Constructeurs avec la fiche d’identité détaillée éditée
dans le cadre de l’homologation. Les dix marques nouvellement homologuées sont : BMB,
Comer, FIM, Parilla, Lenzokart, Maranello, Maxter, TM, VKR et Vortex.

Cette session d’homologation était aussi l’occasion pour les Constructeurs de moteurs KZ,
carburateurs, allumages et silencieux d’aspiration de renouveler leurs produits. Onze nou-
veaux moteurs KZ ont été homologués et sont des marques suivantes : BMB, CRS, De Bei,
Lenzokart (2 modèles), Maranello, Maxter, Parilla, SGM, TM et Vortex. Les marques des nou-
veaux allumages homologués sont FIM, PVL et Vering; celles des silencieux d’aspiration sont
Free Line, KG et Righetti Ridolfi. Quant aux carburateurs, les nouveaux modèles homologués
sont des marques Bolex, HHC, IBEA, JHC et Tryton.

Les homologations de moteurs (KF & KZ), carburateurs, allumages et silencieux d’aspiration
menées en 2007 restent valides jusqu’en 2015.
