2.2 Career Objectives

Currently I am employed as a Human Resource Trainee. I chose this job to get a better insight in
to HR functions that organizations follow to build an effective and efficient workforce. I am
happy with my current position since the main reason I am doing this particular job only for the
exposure in Human Resources function which I believe will help me enhance my capabilities and
knowledge to achieve my future targets. I do believe that I lack analytical skills but my current
profession is proving helpful to overcome this problem since my major responsibilities are to
create Monthly HR reports and conduct Executive Attrition related to the turnover and the
reasons as to why employees are leaving the company. I also have the potential and the
opportunity to grow within the company into different sectors and departments such as Leisure,
consumers etc.
Compared to similar industries and similar job role my line work is somewhat same which
includes responsibilities such as handling information in relation to payroll recruitments and
Resignations of two different companies within the group. In Addition to that I have also been
given the responsibility to create the monthly Group HR Report and assist the Head of Group
Human Resources in various other activities.
Upon completion of my degree I will be probably seeking a job as a Management Trainee in a
FMCG or a blue chip company. This will be an ideal position for me who is seeking for
knowledge to learn and gain exposure in overall organizational functions. My long term goal is
to become a director in a reputed organization as well as start my own business. I believe that
working as a Management Trainee will give me the guidance to choose a correct career path and
help me achieve my long term goal.





2.3 Employer Expectations for Management Trainee

There are certain set of skills and criteria that employers look for in a Management Trainee.
According to an Industry analysis done by me, some of these attributes are necessary to get
recruited as a Management Trainee in any country

Should possess a degree in the respective field in Srilanka although in foreign countries
companies hire Management Trainees with a high school diploma or an associate degree.
Good Communication skills
Ability work under pressure
Ability to work with different set of people.
Team work
Ability to work under pressure
Basic computer and mathematical skills
Should be able to work late hours.
Ability travel outstation when the need arises.
Leadership skills

2.4 Selection Criteria

It is necessary for me to choose a role which compliments my skills, personality and passion. In
order to increase my chance of getting recruited as a Management Trainee at Fonterra it is
necessary that I fit into their specifications and fulfill most of their criteria.
1. Academic Qualification For this particular Management Trainee position it is necessary
that the candidate should possess a bachelors degree and a professional qualifications is
preferred. In my case I will be graduating with double major on Marketing and
Management field and I do possess a diploma in Human Resource Management
therefore, this position proves to be more appropriate for me.

2. The age limit is not specified

3. This position requires leadership qualities in extracurricular activities. I fulfill this
requirement since I was part of the school swimming team and was an active member of
several societies in school and actively involved in organizing cultural shows.

4. I possess excellent oral and communication skill in English, Tamil and above average
communication skill in Sinhala which is mandatory for this particular position.


5. I possess high computer literacy since I finished On Track Certificate on Computing

My education background has given me exposure in to different aspects of Marketing Management and

well as my Leadership skills. I was exposed to various real life corporate scenarios such as conducting
Marketing Research and assessing buyer behavior, creating a new product and drawing an IMC plan for

Introspection
Marketing field is a very interesting field to work in as it not only requires analytical skills but
also relationship building skills to survive in the industry. These following tests were conducted
to further identify my strengths and weaknesses.
According to the Human Metrics Jung Typology I possess ENFP personality and the results are as
follows (Refer Appendix 1 for Results)
This test proved useful since it portrayed the fact, as an individual I possess the required skills to
succeed in the field of marketing. According to the analysis I am more extroverted and I prefer
intuition over thinking which shows that I always think unique and I mostly go with my gut
feeling although I would like to improve my analytical skills before making any decisions to
ensure the success of the outcome. Although there is room for improvements I strongly believe
that I have the potential to get hired as a Management Trainee in Fonterra. (Jung Typology

An analysis regarding communication skills was carried out and the results are as follows
This result confirms the fact that I have good interpersonal skills which will enable me to work
in a multicultural team. One of the common requirements for Management Trainee is the ability
to work in a team. Through this analysis it is evident that I have the capabilities to be a good
team player, adapt myself and work cohesively to achieve the set goals and targets.

person who is outgoing social and energetic. My agreeable ability is also high which highlights
the fact that I have the capability to work well with others. It is also evident that I can work in a
highly stressful environment which is a major requirement that currently employers look for in an
employee. On the other hand I lack some skills which I need to improve in order to attain full
potential of my abilities and perform my job role efficiently as a Management Trainee in
Fonterra. Big Five Personality helped me to identify my shortcomings such as, I lack a bit of
creative skills and I am disorganized. Although I fulfill most of the criteria that is needed for the
job role I do believe that I can overcome my shortcomings by improving my creativity skills as

In order to come up with a suitable career plan it is essential that I identify my personality trait
strength and weaknesses to make sure to come up with a career that suits me. It is also necessary
to identify my weaknesses to make sure that I keep on improving myself and transform negative
into positives.
Strengths
Adaptability - I do believe that I have the capability to adapt myself according to the
environment and the situation to ensure best possible outcome.
I have an extrovert personality. I believe that good networking skills are important to
survive and move up the corporate ladder.
I do become passionate about whatever the job I do even it is out of my comfort-zone.
I do think in an unconventional way and my personality is built on core competencies
such as never give up, be ethical, and always be positive.

Opportunities

Since I am working in a Human Resource job which is not majorly associated with my

My current line of work can be considered as a threat since I wont be having the
necessary work experience in the field of Marketing.
