You ask a spectator to copy your actions, both of you place your right hand down on the floor and begin
to turn them in an anticlockwise direction. The spectator is unable to turn his hand more than part way,
but you continue turning you hand in a full circle. One and a half times! Double jointed? - eh no!
ARM TWIST ILLUSION
THE EFFECT: This mind boggling illusion created a sensation on a
recent national TV special. This totally impromptu routine is easy to do
and uses no props. You ask a spectator to copy your actions. Both of you
place your hands palm down on the table and begin to turn them in an
anticlockwise direction. The spectator is unable to turn his hand more
than part way, but you continue turning your hand in a full circle! One
and a half times! This routine must be seen to be believed. On many
occasions, people have been so shocked - they have actually screamed!
REQUIREMENTS: A top with long-sleeves.
PREPARATION: Put the sweater on!
THE SECRET AND PRESENTATION:
Now turn you arm in a
clockwise direction, basically
you are winding your arm up ready
to be unwound. See pictures 3, 4,
5, 6 and 7. Because your arm is
covered by the sweater the
spectator believes their arm is in
the same position as yours, but in
fact yours is would up. This move
will need a little practice to master.

Ask a spectator to do the same thing you do by placing your
hand on the ground just like picture 1. (Note: the pictures were
taken showing the arm, but with the real trick YOU DO NOT show the
spectators your arm, it is covered by the sweater). Ok, They should put
their hand like the picture opposite.

With the secret move complete and your arm covered by the
sweater (picture 8) it looks exactly like your spectators arm as in
picture 1. Now all that is left to do is a lot of showmanship ie. acting
to pretend that it takes great skill and/or power to perform!
PERFORMANCE: With the spectators hand and yours on the ground
(looking like they are in the same position) ask the spectator to
follow you and start to turn your hand towards your body. The
spectator will stop very shortly as they can not move their hand
further than past their body - this is where you shine as your hand
keeps going past you body and all the way round. You can keep
going until you reach where the spectators stopped. One and a half
turns later!
TIPS: When the spectators hand cant go any further get them to pull
your hand round with theirs this adds to the effect greatly. That way
they can feel a real hand so cant say it was fake at the end of the
trick. You can also hide a piece of plastic (ie from a bottle of Coke or
Pepsi) up the sleeve of you arm which you can squeeze with the
other hand to to create a real nice bone crunching sound! Do not
forget to act as though you are in great pain to heighten the realism!

THE EFFECT: Two coins are borrowed and examined, the Magician then takes them and says
the magic words! The Magician touches them together and they stick! - Magic! - Then with
a puff of air or the slightest touch the lower coin begins to spin still stuck to the upper coin!
The Magician then drops the coins into a spectator's hand and lets him or her examine them
or try to duplicate the feat. They cant - its impossible (unless you know the secret of course!)

THE SECRET: The secret to this effect is a magnet! You will need a small but powerful magnet. You
can probably find a usable magnet from your local discount store. The absolute best size for magic tricks
such as this are 6mm x 3mm. They are small, so easy to hide from the audience but very powerful. If you
have any trouble finding such magnets I usually have some in stock in my eBay store HERE if not try HERE.
THE METHOD: Supply or better yet ask your spectator for either two 1p coins or two 2p coins,
hand them out for examination if you wish. Secretly conceal or pinch the tiny magnet between your
forefinger and middle finger of your left or right hand (pic 1) relax your hand, even bending your fingers
so it does not look staged position your other hand in a similar way and you will look quite natural.
When the spectators have finished examining the coins take one back with the hand that is not hiding the magnet - bring
it towards the concealed magnet hand and secretly let the Magnet attract, do this slowly as not to make too loud a clink
sound (pic 2) A little bit of talking or patter should mask any small noise made.
Once the magnet has attracted, hold the coin and magnet with your forefinger and thumb (pic 3), because the magnet
is so small you should be able to effectively hide it from view from any angle. (If for any reason you have extremely
small fingers and cant hide the magnet just show the coin from the other side, so they cant see the magnet!)
Take the second coin off the spectator and place it below the first coin. You should find that the two coins will stick
together because of the magnetism (main pic). Try not to have the magnet too close to the second coin or it may cause
the second coin to jump right on to the magnet (off the corner of the coin) which does not look very good!
With the two coins stuck together you can lightly touch the bottom coin or even blow it and it will spin round looking very
impressive! Once you are finished drop the first coin into the spectators hand or onto a table, then as you drop the second coin
secretly remove the magnet with your forefinger and thumb (pic 4) The magnet can then be palmed again, hidden as per the
beginning of the trick ready to go again when the spectators try and fail! Or you can simply drop it into your pocket and end
the trick clean. Do be careful not to lose the magnet they have a habit of sticking to most metal things laying around!
TIP: This trick works better ie. you get better magnetism the more copper or red coloured the coins, so try to pick those types of
coins. You could for example ask the spectator to get out all their coins and hand pick the more copper coloured ones. Have fun!

THE EFFECT: Ask to borrow any coin from a spectator - then perform this little miracle: First
you take the coin and balance it upright on the fingers of your open palm - impressive
enough, but suddenly with a wave of your hand you get it to slowly and visibly drift
backwards into your palm! - AMAZING!
Immediately hand out the coin for examination - there is nothing to find! You
can repeat the trick straight away and even get a spectator to try to copy you
at the same time - they will find it impossible!

Gimmick supplied 1 minute to learn (but a little practice time needed)
For beginners or experienced magicians
THE SECRET: You will need a small sewing pin, this is the small gimmick which you secretly use to act as a stand to balance the
coin against! This must be concealed before the trick, in the hand you are going to balance the coin. The pin needs to be placed
between your forefinger and middle finger, pin head down (pic 1) The head of the pin should be pinched between the knuckles
where your fingers bend. In this position you can relax your hand in a natural way, palm facing towards your body so the pin cant
be seen (pic 2).
THE METHOD: Ask to borrow a coin (any coin can be used but the bigger the better i find) For example borrow a two
pence piece from a spectator. Take the coin and balance it against the needle (obviously do not let the spectator see the needle)
It will look as if the coin is balancing un-supported! (main pic) With the needle gripped between your knuckles gradually release
your grip on the needle ever so slightly allowing the coin to slowly and visibly drift backwards under its own weight (pic 3). Please
note this bit does take a bit of practice to get the knack! but is well worth the effort. Experiment with what works best for you.
When the coin is flat on your palm (pic 4) you should find that the needle rests between your fingers in the crack, so you
can keep it hidden there and just hand back the coin for the spectator to have a go or examine. Obviously they will not
be able to repeat your miracle! If you are sat at a table you can casually drop the needle into your lap and spread your
fingers showing your hands empty. If you want to perform again simply keep the needle in your hand and just secretly
position it back into the gripped knuckle position (pic 2), and your ready to go again.
If at any point you want to get rid of the needle to end the trick clean, when you have finished performing place the coin into
your pocket (with the needle as well) then act as though you forgot it was the spectators coin and reach back into your pocket
apologising and hand back the coin, leaving the needle in your pocket. Say something as a joke like I thought that was my tip!
To get a better idea of the handling you can watch back the promo video of the effect on eBay or YouTube, now you know the
secret see how i perform it. You will notice that i turn my hand and the coin to the side slightly so that you can almost see behind
the coin. This is a good technique so that it looks like the coin is completely un-supported, you can do this too when performing
but make sure no spectator can see directly behind you, a little from the side is fine but directly behind they will see the needle.

COINBALANCETRICK
1. THE SUCKING GLASS TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: An ashtray, an empty pint glass,some beer, a box of matches and a coin. PREPARATION: Pour a very shallow layer of beer
into the ashtray. THE TRICK: Can anyone in the room make the beer go into the glass without touching the beer itself? THE SECRET: Place a
coin in the middle of the beer. Light a match and place it horizontally on the coin. Take the empty glass and place it over the coin and the
match. The resultant vacuum causes the beer to be sucked into the glass!
2. THE DANGEROUS EXPLODING BOTTLE TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A beer bottle and some water. PREPARATION: Buy some medical insurance! - Seriously be careful! THE TRICK: Say, "Is anybody
here truly stupid enough to try and make this bottle blow up without the use of explosives?" THE SECRET: Drain a beer bottle and fill it with
water to within 2cm of the rim. Strike the top of the bottle with the palm of your hand. The lower half of the bottle will instantly erupt into a
shower of glass and water and maybe even blood! (You try this one entirely at you own risk - again be careful!)
3. PUSHING THE GLASS
YOU WILL NEED: A small glass, a straw and a beer mug. PREPARATION: Put all the equipment on the table. THE TRICK: Ask everyone if they
can push the small glass through the handle of the beer mug without actually touching either of the glasses. THE SECRET: Take the straw, stick
it through the handle of the beer mug and push the small glass with it. Now you are pushing a small glass though the handle of the beer mug
without touching either of them! Cheeky i know ;-)
4. BEER CAP FRISBEE
YOU WILL NEED: A penny and two bottle tops. PREPARATION: Make sure the penny is handy. THE TRICK: Tell your mate that you can throw a
bottle cap farther than he can. Allow him to choose his own bottle top if it makes him feel better. THE SECRET: Let your friend throw first.
While he is trying to give it his best shot, hide the penny in the bottle top, bending the edges in slightly to hold the penny in place. This will
make the bottle top much heavier causing it to travel much further!
5. THE OLIVE BRIDGE
YOU WILL NEED: An olive, a brandy glass, three whisky tumblers and a straw. PREPARATION: Place the olive on the bar and put the brandy glass
nearby. Put two of the whisky glasses upside down about six inches from the olive with the straw balanced between the two like a bridge or a
hurdle. Put the third whisky glass another six inches away from the hurdle, this time the right way up. THE TRICK: Say to your friends, "Holding
only the base of the brandy glass, can you make the olive leap the hurdle and jump into the whisky glass?" THE SECRET: Put the brandy glass
upside down over the olive. Hold the base of the brandy glass and start twirling it around to create a centrifugal force. The olive will rise up and
spin around. Keep working the brandy glass and move it over the hurdle. Stop twirling the brandy glass over the whisky tumbler and drop it in!
6. THE CORKER
YOU WILL NEED: A silk scarf, an empty wine bottle and a cork. PREPARATION: Push the cork all the way into the bottle. THE TRICK: Can any of
your friends get the cork out of the bottle without breaking the glass? THE SECRET: Grab the scarf by two diagonally opposite corners. Now
work the centre of the scarf into the bottle. Do not let go of the corners of the scarf. Holding the bottle horizontally, you can move the cork
onto the scarf loop that's formed. Pull the scarf and cork into the neck of the bottle and you will be able to slide them out!
7. MOVE THE BANK NOTE
YOU WILL NEED: A pint glass, a bank note and at least five 10p coins. PREPARATION: Balance the coins on the rim of the pint glass with the
note between them. Again this will take a little skill, practice carefully before trying in public. THE TRICK: Say, "Can anyone remove the
banknote without disturbing the coins? THE SECRET: If you try to pull the note away flat then the coins will fall off. Take the free end of the
banknote gently between thumb and forefinger and carefully raise the note to make an angle of about 45 degrees. Keeping hold of the note,
strike sharply in the reverse direction at the base of the angle you have made, using the the forefinger of your other hand. Your coins will still
be perfectly balanced on the lip of the glass.
8. THE KARATE CHOP
YOU WILL NEED: A box of matches, and a friend. PREPARATION: Wait until your friend goes to the toilet then put the matchbox on the table,
resting on it's short side, and hold two matches against the long sides with your fingers so that they stand up like a rugby post above the end
of the box. Make sure the heads of the matches are held against the striking board then balance another match across the top. THE TRICK:
Tell your friend that everyone has tried to karate chop the matchstick but they have all failed dismally because it just hurt their fingers too
much. THE SECRET: He will grab the box, and holding the matches in the same way he will then make a chop at the match on top. As he does
the matches on the striking side will ignite as they are pushed downwards, thus burning his fingers! - Be careful with this one too!
9. EVERLASTING ASH TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A cigarette and a paper clip. PREPARATION: Before the trick, get a cigarette, then straighten a paper clip and carefully stick it
down the full length of the ciggy, as close to the middle as you can get it. Make sure that no one can see the clip. Put it back into your packet
and return to the table. THE TRICK: Say, "I bet you that I can smoke my cigarette without letting any of the ash fall off!" THE SECRET: When
you light the 'fixed' cigarette the metal inside will stop the ash from falling off. You can even wave the fag around and the ash won't fall off!
10. THE BENDING CIGARETTE TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A packet of cigarettes. PREPARATION: Buy a drink and take out your cigarette and a lighter. THE TRICK: Say, "I bet you can't
bend this cigarette totally in half without breaking it!" THE SECRET: Firstly, let your friends try, unsuccessfully to bend a cigarette, breaking it
each time. They will all say that it is impossible. Then show them how it's done. Simply dip the end of your cigarette into your pint, so that
roughly the last half centimeter is wet. Light the cigarette and take a drag on the ciggy as hard as you can, at the same time. After a couple
of seconds you will be able to bend the cigarette in half without breaking it!
11. THE COIN TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A coin and a box of matches. PREPARATION: Put a match, head up, between the end of the box and the tray. Stick the coin on top
of the box and balance another match between the coin and the first match, so that the two match heads are touching at the top. THE TRICK: Say,
"Can anyone take the coin off the box without touching the match on top? THE SECRET: Use a lighter to light the balanced match, lighting it about
halfway along the length. The match will ignite, stick to the other match and slowly rise up. Then you can take your coin out!
12. THE HAT TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A whiskey tumbler and a hat. PREPARATION: Pour a shot of whisky or any other drink into the glass and place the hat over
the top of the glass to cover it. THE TRICK: Say, "I bet I can drink this whiskey without touching the hat!" THE SECRET: Get under the table
and make a slurping sound. Pop back up looking satisfied. Your friend will inevitably let curiosity get the better of him and he will check
under the hat to see if you drank it, giving you the opportunity to grab the glass and drink the whiskey without having touched the hat!

13. THE BALANCING ACT
YOU WILL NEED: A matchbox and a pint of beer. PREPARATION: Balance the pint of beer on top of the matchbox. THE TRICK: Say, "I bet you
can't move the matchbox without touching the pint of beer!" THE SECRET: Make sure that the bottom of the glass, the bar surface and the
matchbox is dry. Place your hand flat on the bar underneath the edge of the pint glass. With a sharp sideways swipe slap the box out from
under the pint of beer making sure your hand follows through.
14. THE BOTTLE CAP TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A beer bottle and a bottle cap. PREPARATION: Put the bottle top next to the bottle on the table. THE TRICK: Say, "Using
only your forefinger move the bottle cap up the side of the bottle until it is upside down on top of the bottle. Next turn the bottle top the
right way up on top of the bottle then turn it back upside down again. Finally get the bottle cap back to the table, again using only your
forefinger. THE SECRET: Push the bottle cap to the top of the bottle and make sure that it sits there upside down. Then gently roll the bottle
top around until it is balanced on the edge and you can get your finger underneath it. Deftly flip it over. Then reverse the process, turning it
in the opposite direction and slide it down the side! Easy!
15. THE GLASSBLOWING TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: Two straight pint glasses. PREPARATION: Put one glass loosely inside another and them place them on their side with the ends
of the glasses pointing towards you. THE TRICK: Say, "I bet you can't get the inner glass out of the outer glass without touching either of the
glasses. THE SECRET: Simple. Blow very hard into the gap between the two glasses and the glass on the inside will pop out into your hands.
16. THE EGG TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A beer bottle or even better a milk bottle, some paper, a shelled hard boiled egg and a box of matches. PREPARATION: Just
lay everything on the bar. THE TRICK: Say, "Can anyone here get the egg into the bottle without breaking the egg or the bottle?" THE SECRET:
Take a piece of paper, roll it up and set fire to it. Place the burning paper into the bottle. Now place the egg on top of the open bottle. This
will now create a vacuum and in doing so will suck the egg into the bottle.
17. THE FASTEST DRINKING TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: One short drink, two pints of beer and a friend. PREPARATION: Put the drinks on the bar. THE TRICK: Say, "I bet I can drink my two
pints before you can drink your short drink. Say there are two conditions though. They are not allowed to start drinking the short until you have
finished and put down your pint and neither of you can touch each other's glasses. THE SECRET: Drink the first pint and quickly place the empty
pint glass upside down over the short glass. The other person is not allowed to touch your glass so you can finish your second pint at your leisure.
18. THE MAGIC COIN
YOU WILL NEED: A wine glass, an unlit cigarette, a penny coin and a beer mat. PREPARATION: Put the beer mat over the wine glass, balance
the cigarette, filter upwards, in the middle of the beermat, then balance the coin on top of the fag. THE TRICK: Say, "Can you get the coin into
the glass without touching anything?"THE SECRET: Blow under the edge of the beer mat in an upward direction. The beermat and the
cigarette will be blown away and the heavier coin will fall into the glass.
19. THE MAGIC GLASS TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A brandy glass with a shot of booze in it and an empty sherry glass. PREPARATION: Turn the sherry glass upside down and
stick it in the brandy glass. THE TRICK: Say, "Can anyone get the brandy into the sherry glass and drink it without touching the sherry glass
with your hands?" THE SECRET: Pick up the brandy glass. Take the far side of the sherry glass in your mouth and pull it out of the brandy glass.
Stand straight and tip your head back so the glass is the right side up. Carefully pour the brandy into the sherry glass. Turn the empty brandy
glass upside down and hold it in your hand. Next slide the smaller glass onto the base of the brandy glass. You can now put the whole top end
of the sherry glass into your mouth, tip your head back and swallow.
20. THE FLAMING FIVER TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: A glass of whiskey or brandy and a five pound note. PREPARATION: Get your glass of brandy or whiskey and the five pound
note handy. THE TRICK: Say, "I bet I can make this five pound note go up in flames and still be able to spend it." and then casually order a
whiskey or brandy from the bar. THE SECRET: Take the note out of the alcohol and put it on the table or in an empty glass. Now set fire to
one corner of the note, be careful to let go of it quickly. All the spirit will now burn off but the note will be left intact so go and collect
your winnings. Don't forget to clean your five pound note with water after the trick.
21. THE COIN THROUGH THE TABLE TRICK
YOU WILL NEED: Two scraps of paper, Sellotape and two medium size coins of the same value. PREPARATION: Firstly get a pal to write his
initials on two scraps of paper and then tape each of them to a one pound coin. Tell your friends you are doing this because it stops you
swapping any coins while you are doing the trick. THE TRICK: Say. "I bet I can pass this coin with your initials on straight through this table
and catch it underneath!" THE SECRET: Place the two coins on the edge of the table then drag the first coin towards you with your left hand,
pick it up and hold your hand under the table with your fist closed. Next pretend to pick up the other coin in the same way with your right
hand, but as you drag the coin towards you, knock it onto your lap leaving your right fist on the table. Now slyly pick up the second coin from
your lap with your left hand and tell your friends that you are going to move the coin they think is in your right hand straight through the
table into your other hand. Clink the coins together as if the second coin has just landed under the table, hold out your left hand and reveal
the two coins together in your hand.
22. THE CLASSIC NOTE TRICK
This is a classic note switch used by conmen in the USA. It relies heavily on the fact that US dollars all look quite alike to one another. First get
a $50 dollar note and fold it width ways around your middle finger, securing it with your ring and index fingers. Now get a $5 dollar bill and
fold it widthways again and hold it in the palm of your hand, holding it in place with your thumb. Now with the back of your hand to the
bartender, hold the bill up above all the other customers to get noticed and as you order your drink slam your hand down on the bar. The
barman will clearly see the value of the dollar bill and will turn away to get your drink. While the barman's attention is on getting your drink,
simply drop the $5 dollar note onto the bar, which lies folded the same way as the $50 dollar note, which you then swiftly tuck under your
palm. Now all you have to do is put the middle, index and ring fingers in the same position as you had the $50 dollar bill. With a little practice
this can be done seamlessly. You cannot get caught doing this trick because if the barman notices the $5 dollar bill then you just pretend to be
drunk and claim you made a mistake. Only ever do this trick in a crowded bar where there is quite a rush of people. Eight out of ten times it
WILL work! And don't forget "Practice makes perfect!"
23. THE AMAZING MAGIC CRUCIFIX!
First get a plastic straw and spear a cocktail stick through it, about an inch from the top. Next get a spirit bottle, making sure that a little bit
of brandy is left in the bottom, and put the bottle under a hot tap for a couple of minutes, taking care not to get any water in the bottle.
Next push the straw into the bottle using the cocktail stick as a crossbar. Now say to your friends, "I bet I can get the cross out of the bottle
without touching the cross or the bottle, then simply light a match, throw it into the bottle and stand back as the straw crucifix rockets
through the air, trailing a red hot flame! A Stunner!
24. THE TRICKY COIN TOSS
The coin toss trick is an easy money spinner and relies on the victim thinking that he has a fifty fifty chance. Basically the victim calls heads or
tails and if he is correct then he wins the bet but loses if he is wrong. With this trick the victim loses every time you want him to lose! The
secret to the trick is that you have an identical second coin tucked under your ring finger with the heads side facing the palm of your hand.
Catch the tossed coin between your index finger and thumb and release the other one on the back of your hand according to the victim's call,
either heads or tails. If they call heads then the switch is easy but if they call tails let the hidden coin drop the other way by letting it fall onto
your finger tips before slapping it down. As you show the victim that he lost yet again secretly position the other coin under your ring finger
and look at which side is facing your palm before doing the trick again. With practice this trick is a very effective way of making a lot of money!
25. SWAP THE NOTE
A well known trick in the USA which seems to work a lot is conning a bartender, especially in a very busy bar .While you are waiting to
be served drop a crumpled $5 dollar bill onto the floor behind the bar then get the bartenders attention by pointing out that you have
accidentally dropped the five dollar note. As the barman hands the money back to you, you instantly say, "Actually, I will use that for a
beer!", at the same time switching the original $5 dollar bill for a crumpled $1 dollar bill you have hidden in the palm of your hand, and hand
the money back to the barman. This all happens so quickly that the barman doesn't realise that he now has a different dollar bill in his hand.
What also helps is the fact that most US dollars are the same size and colour! This trick works the best in more darker bars or in nightclubs
where there are plenty of flashing lights! Enjoy a few free drinks!

this to your spectator for a souvenir to take home, or cut the can open with a knife - that's the only way it's coming back out again, AMAZING!

THE SECRET:
This illusion has a devilishly simple secret. You actually put the coin in the can right in front of the spectator eyes but they do not suspect a thing
(if performed correctly that is!) Amazingly the 'moves' carried out to prove the coin has penetrated the can actually help you put it in. Begin by letting your
audience examine the can or even better borrow one, also borrow a coin (I prefer to work with a 20p, it is a good size to be seen and more importantly
just fits inside the top of the can with the ring pull up, but will not come out with the ring pull down) then get a spectator to initial the coin on both sides
with a permanent marker (so the liquid will not wash off the signature!) This is an important step to prove without doubt it is their coin in the can.

Your audience should be front on.
Bring both hands together fast
and SLAM the coin into the
bottom of the can, this usually
makes a nice clink sound as if the
coin has really penetrated the can.
Remove your hand and you will
find the coin, stays rested on the
bottom rim of the can. show your
hand empty. To your audience the
coin has vanished!
Take the can in the other hand as
shown by gripping the top with all
your fingers and show your other
hand completely empty. Dont
worry the coin will stay on the rim.
As soon as you show the other
hand empty use this misdirection
time to turn the can up the right
way and allow the coin to drop
secretly into your palm.
Try to keep your fingers fairly close
together to hide the coin falling,
but at this point the main focus
will be on your other hand as you
show it empty.
You then need to adjust your grip so
that the can is in your hand as shown.
Be careful not to make a clink noise

The following move is intended to
show the spectators that the can
has no holes in either the top or
bottom: Bring the thumb of the
opposite hand over and grip the
coin against the can.
The coin needs to be gripped near
its top (unless your thumbs are
unnaturally large!) so that your
thumb hides the coin from the
audiences view. Tilt the can
forward towards the audience.
Bring the hand which now does
not have the coin to the top of the
can and tap on it to prove it is still
sealed. (You can see from this
angle your thumb hides the coin)
Tip: The pass of the coin from one
hand to the other (steps 9 & 10)
should be done smoothly and naturally.
Turn the can sideways keeping a grip
on the coin.
Then show the bottom of the can and
tap on it, again to show there are no
holes in the bottom and no coin to be
seen. (All these moves in the whole
trick should only take a minute or so)
Turn the can upright again, always
keeping the thumb that is holding
the coin on the back of the can
away from the audience. Begin to
move the coin to the top of the can.
Make sure that the sealed top of the
can is, at this point, towards your
body (as if you would open the can)
Move the coin right up and over the
top lip of the can.
As you move the coin into the top
of the can start to shake the can
and say something like Im going
to try and get you to hear the coin
in the can. (this will mask any noises)
If you shake the can fairly sharply up
and down and tap the coin with
your thumb against the can
it actually sound like the coin is in
the can clinking - try it you will see!
At this point you can then simply
open the can, by lifting the ring
pull as usual, keeping your fingers
together to hide the coin from the
spectators.
As you open the can simply push
the coin into the can! Make sure
you push the ring pull back down
again as this will act as a stop to
the coin falling out at the end.
You can casually show your other
hand empty but do not make a
big thing out of it as this would
cause suspicious! (Tip: Try to perform
all the moves at finger tips so your
hand look empty at all times)
Begin to pour the contents of the
can into a glass, sink or onto the
floor. Do this slowly to build
up the suspension!
When the can is empty shake the
coin to the mouth of the can to
show the coin really is in the can.
Because of the ring pull back in
the down position the coin will
not fall out.
This creates the illusion that the coin
could not fit in to the mouth in the
first place (without you having to say
anything) Finally you can give the can
to the spectator to take home or cut
the can open with a sharp knife.
Even better let the spectator cut it
open (carefully of course so they
do not cut themselves!) Sit back
and take the applause!

THE EFFECT: You take an ordinary drinks bottle and empty the contents onto the floor.
You then ask to borrow a coin from a spectator. Holding the bottle in one hand and the
coin in the other you slam the coin into the bottom of the bottle. Bam! The coin
penetrates the bottle. It is CLEARLY seen inside. There is no mistake, it really is inside!
There is no way to get it out, the coin is too big to be removed from the bottle neck!
You can give it to a spectator to examine, or they can keep it for a souvenir. Alternatively
you can cut the bottle open to remove the coin! - How cool is that!

THE SECRET: You will need a small but powerful magnet. The absolute best size for
magic tricks such as this are 6mm x 3mm. They are small, so easy to hide from the
audience but very powerful. I usually have some in stock in my eBay store HERE if not
try HERE. It is this magnet which holds the coin inside the bottle, hidden behind the
label. So how does the coin get in the bottle? You have to put it there before you
perform. To prepare for the trick you are going to need a clear plastic drinks bottle.
Empty the contents into a glass or container, you will need it later. When the bottle is
empty you need to peel back the label at the join slightly to reveal the plastic. Then
with a very sharp scalpel or scissors cut a small slit large enough for a two pence piece
to fit through (pic 1). Push a two pence piece (or any magnetic coin) into the bottle.
Any coin smaller than a two pence piece is not great to use as they can fit through the
neck of the bottle defeating the purpose of this impossible looking illusion.
When the coin is in the bottle simply stick the label back together. Usually the labels are quite
sticky and no extra glue is required, but if you think it necessary you can glue the label back on
(pic 2). If you carry a penknife round with you then this illusion becomes quite impromptu as this
set up only takes a few minutes. Next lay the bottle on its side and position the coin in the middle
of the label, then place the magnet against the bottle to hold the coin there (pic 3). You should now
find that because the magnet is so strong you can wave the bottle around or ever turn it up side down and the coin will stay put.
The last step to prepare the bottle is to pour some of the contents back into the bottle, just below the slit (to prevent any leaks).
THE METHOD: Take the prepared bottle and show it to your audience, make sure the magnet is facing towards your
body away from the spectators. You can place your thumb over the magnet to hide it (pic 4). The magnet is quite small
so this should not be a problem to keep out of sight. Handle the bottle naturally as if it is just any normal bottle.
Remember always show the bottle front on, never turn it to the side (end on) or the hidden coin will be shown!
An advanced move at this stage is to turn the bottle by its base while still holding the magnet against the bottle. This will
cause the magnet and coin to stay still while the bottle turns (pic 5). This move seemingly shows the whole bottle to the
spectators and can look very natural. This does take practice so you do not have to do this move if you find it too hard.
Remove the top of the bottle and proceed to pour the contents onto the floor, make sure the coin is above the liquid and
it will pass right under the coin leaving it dry. Do not worry if the coin gets a bit wet as after all the bottle would not be
completely dry inside anyway. Pouring it out emphasises the fact that there is nothing in the bottle and that it is normal.
Once the bottle is empty ask to borrow a two pence piece. Take this in the palm of one hand and the bottle in the other.
Slam the coin onto the bottom of the bottle (pic 6) hard enough to dislodge the coin from the magnet which will fall to the
bottom of the bottle. Because this is done so fast the spectators will not see the coin drop. At this point all the attention is
focussed on the coin in the bottle, which looks amazing. So just close your other hand with the coin in palming the
spectators coin. If you are sat at a table simply drop the coin into your lap, or secretly place it into your pocket.
When the coin drops from the magnet you will need to make sure you keep your thumb on the magnet, so it does not fall
as well. If you press the magnet firmly against the bottle during the trick you should find that when you take your thumb
off the bottle to hand it to the spectators the magnet will stay stuck to your thumb (pic 7). You can get rid of this too in a
pocket if you wish. But it is so small I usually just keep it concealed in my hand.
You can let the spectators examine or even keep the bottle after all the secret is cleverly hidden. If you are too nervous
to let the spectators keep the bottle you can cut it open with scissors or a scalpel right at the point where the small slit
is which would then get rid of any evidence. You can then hand back the coin.
ALTERNATIVE HANDLING: You can also perform the effect with the bottle top. All that's needed is a bit more
preparation. First thing you will need is an identical bottle top. You then need to shim it. This means to make it
magnetic. There are a number of ways to do this. The easiest is to glue a one pence piece into the top. This will pass
casual examination and performance but would not hold up to close scrutiny. Alternatively some plastic bottle tops
have a plastic insert, if you first remove this you can place a small piece of metal like a paper clip into the cap then glue
the plastic insert back in. Once this is inside the bottle even close inspection will not reveal anything. If you are going to
use a bottle top for the performance the slit you cut into the bottle will obviously have to be slightly larger.
If you embrace the shim idea you can perform the effect with any small object (bigger than the bottle neck of course)
which you can make magnetic with a small piece of metal. Other objects you could use are: keys, rings, matches, thimbles,
washers, folded playing cards, your imagination is the limit!
ALTERNATIVE TOTALLY IMPROMPTU METHOD:
If you find you want to perform this effect but have no magnet handy you still can! here is how: This method is cool because
the spectator can examine the bottle before the trick. Hand them the bottle top first to look at, when they are happy hand
them the bottle, while they are looking at the bottle secretly place a small coin like a one pence piece into the lid. Take back
the bottle and screw the lid on keeping the bottle tilted toward the floor so the coin stays hidden in the cap. Borrow a one
pence piece and slam it into the bottom tilting the bottle back upright in the process so the coin falls from the lid and comes
into view. Then get rid of the coin in your hand as before. This is a good impromptu effect but it relies on the fact that the
coin can fit into the bottle neck, so the impact is not quite as good as the main illusion. But still a nice trick!
TIP: If you find that handling the magnet and palming the coin at the same time is too complicated, you can purchase a magnetic
finger ring HERE. Often known as PK rings. That way you have the magnet on your finger, so its in your hand at all times.
Alternatively the small magnet can be glued under the bottle label, then you do not need worry about handling the magnet.

The magician displays two bank notes (in this example two ten pound notes) and shows them openly back
and front. The magician places them back to back, he/she then cuts through the centre of both notes with
a pair of scissors - the notes are clearly seen to be cut into four halves. Without any suspicious moves, the
magician instantly open both halves to show the notes restored to their original condition, astonishing!
SECRET & PREPARATION
The secret to this effect is Rubber Cement. Get some from your local store, Amazon.com HERE or my
eBay Shop HERE. Place two nearly new notes face down on a table. Apply a thin layer of rubber cement,
about half an inch wide, down the centre of the back of each note. When this is dry, add a second coat
of cement and allow it to dry also. Next, sprinkle a little talcum powder on the cement covered area on
each bill. Spread the powder over the entire surface of the cement with your finger or soft brush. You
will notice the treated areas of both bills will not stick to each other because of the powdered surface.
Put the bills in your wallet or on the table and you are ready to perform this very clever close up effect!
CUT AND
RESTORED
CURRENCY
This is an excellent cut and restored effect that is really effective
when performed with real money. You can use play money, stage money,
blank cheques or any form of printed paper about the size of regular currency.
METHOD
Begin by removing the two prepared notes from your wallet and casually showing both sides of the notes. Place them back to back as shown in
pic 1 & 2. We will call the note nearest you Note A and the one nearest the spectators Note B - Square up both notes. Be sure that the cemented
areas are touching each other. Hold both notes with the thumb and finger of your left hand as shown in pic 3. With your right hand holding the
scissors, carefully cut through the centre of both notes. Make sure that you cut within the areas covered by the cement stripes. Done openly and
deliberately, there will be no question in the audiences mind that both bills have actually been cut in half - which they have! See pic 4.
Place the scissors aside. Grasp the halves on the right sides of the cut in your right hand (one half of Note A and one half of Note B) and the left
sides two halves (the other two halves of Note A and Note B) in your left hand. With the thumb and fingers of both hands, separate the halves
of the notes see pic 5, and shake them open pic 6. Because of the rubber cement, the halves in each hand will stick together at the cut edges
giving the illusion that the four half notes have fused together to form two complete notes once again!
TIP AND TRICKS
Done well, this quickie is a real eyepopper! First practice with stage money or with newspaper cut to the size of bank notes. This way you will
find out just how much rubber cement and talcum powder to apply. You can then try it with real notes. These should be new and crisp (maybe
from a cash ATM machine) and fit together neatly for steps 2 and 3. Dont worry about losing money when using real notes, as the halves can
be stuck together with transparent sticky tape, just as with any torn notes. The higher the currency value the bigger the effect becomes - be
really brave and use 50 notes! As an alternative method you could let a spectator cut the notes just make sure you hold the notes tight and
get them to cut in the centre (where the cement is!) Remember practice, practice, practice and have fun - its a great little illusion!

Rubber Cement is a very versatile substance in Magic it is used for numerous effects here
are a few tricks to get you started. Good Cement is hard to find in the U.K so try HERE
TRICK: Cigarette Vanish
EFFECT AND ROUTINE:
A spectator hands the Magician a cigarette, and right before their eyes it vanishes with a quick snap of the fingers!
PREPARATION:
Take some rubber cement and smear some on the back upper portion of your left thumb and let it dry for a few seconds. Be careful not to use too
much. Now your ready.
METHOD::
I recommend learning some basic sleight before doing this trick. The reason for this is because, after doing the trick you don't want to return the
cigarette. Ask a spectator for a cigarette. Preferably not lit. How I usually start this trick is to take it and pretend to stick it up my nose and pull it out
my mouth. The reason for this is because most likely they wont want it back after that!
To perform, bend your thumb in toward your palm and place the cigarette on the rubber cement, filter pointing in your thumb. The rest of the
cigarette should point to your right hand, with your middle and index finger laying on top pretending to hold it. Now with the quick snapping
motion, open your hands and extend your thumb out. The cigarette is now behind your thumb and looks as though it has vanished! To bring it back
just close your hand and point your thumb back in covering it again with your fingers to look like you are holding it. Simple but effective!
TRICK: Clip-o
EFFECT AND ROUTINE:
A strip of paper is cut in half and is restored. The performer can keep cutting out more pieces from the middle of the paper, and restoring what is left.
PREPARATION:
Cut a strip of paper about two inches wide and at least eight inches long. Heavily coat one side with rubber cement, except for about an inch at
each end. (It helps to let it dry and apply a second coat.) After it dries, coat the rubber cement completely with talc or baby powder.
METHOD:
Cut the strip of paper in half. Separate the two pieces to show it is really cut. Put the two pieces together with the rubber cement on the inside. Cut
through both strips about 14 inch from the first cut. The cut will expose some of the rubber cement and actually glue the strip back together. Hold
one end of the strip and allow it to open. (The glue is just strong enough to hold the strip together, so handle it gently!) You can fold the strip in
half again and repeat cutting out a pieces of the strip.
POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS:
Sin Cuts Us Off From God - Write God at one end of the strip and Me at the other. Cut the strip in half to illustrate how our sin cuts us off from
God. Restore the strip to show how God restores our relationship with him when we ask for forgiveness.
Gods Pruning - Write Jesus at one end of the strip and Me at the other. In this presentation, the strip isnt cut in half. Instead, the middle is just
cut out. Talk about how God has to prune things out of our lives to bring us closer to him. Fold the strip and cut out a small portion. Open the
strip to show that Jesus and Me are closer together. Keep repeating this, bringing Jesus and Me ever closer.
TRICK: Balancing Ping Pong ball
EFFECT AND ROUTINE:
You show an ordinary ping pong ball to your audience and immediately toss it into the air, you tilt your head back and manage to catch and balance
the ping pong ball on your nose! This can be repeated as many times as you like!
PREPARATION:
Apply some rubber cement to your nose and let it dry. Take a ping pong ball and coat it in rubber cement all over, again let this dry.
METHOD:
You do not have to be an expert juggler to perform this feat! bit it will take some practice! This simple trick relies on the fact that rubber cement
sticks to its self very well, so you show the audience the ping pong ball toss it up into the air and as long as it touches any part of your nose with
the rubber cement on, your nose will stick to the rubber cement on the ping pong ball! - simple.
Give your audience an unprepared ping pong ball to try it themselves - they will fail every time! This quick trick can also be introduced into a
comedy routine because once you catch the ping pong ball on your nose and the applause has died down tilt your head back upright and the ball
will stay stuck on your nose to comic effect. This usually gets a great laugh! (but gives away the secret).

THE EFFECT: A playing card is show both sides, and laid flat in the palm of your hand. Slowly, and at
your command the card begins to rise out of your hand and hovers for a few moments, inches above
your hand before returning back into your palm once more.
YOU WILL NEED:
Two playing cards (the one you want to float, and any other card with a matching back say a joker)
Some scissors
Double sided sticky tape
PREPARATION: (The very best cards for this trick are the Bicycle brand. You can get some from Amazon.com
HERE or Amazon UK HERE) Take the scissors, and with the extra card cut it in half, long ways. Now, on one of
the pieces you just cut trim off the white edges, leaving only the blue (or red) middle part (Pic 1).
Now, cut off a small piece of double sided sticky tape and stick it directly in the middle of this piece,
but ON THE FACENOT ON THE BACK! Now, youre just going to take this sort of half-card piece with
the boarder trimmed off, and stick it to the back of the card you want to float, matching it up as
closely as you can to the design on the back, thus camouflaging the extra piece (Pic 2).
PERFORMANCE: All you have to do to make the card appear to be floating, is as you lay it into your
left palm, lay it face up with the extra piece closest to you. Position it so that, with your fingers slightly
spread, the extra piece is pinched between your forefinger, and the inside of your little finger or ring
finger depending on the size of your hands.
Now, to create the illusion of it floating, all you do as your fingers are spread is bring your fingers back
together slowly. This pushes in on the gimmick, causing the card to rise above your hand a few inches.
Now, to bring it back, simply spread your fingers again (Pic 3).
Simply turn the card over to show that nothing is there (because the gimmick is hidden with the pattern).
TIP: When you perform this effect, the spectators should be looking DOWN on the card, so you might
want to perform this at waist level. This will protect against the audience seeing the gimmick!

THE EFFECT: You shuffle a pack of cards then get the spectator to do so also, they are TOTALLY mixed
up. You then get them to cut the cards and ask them to look at the card they cut to and memorize it,
but obviously not to show or tell you. Once they have memorized their card get them to square up the
deck again and they, or you, can shuffle them once more if you wish.
You take back the cards and ask the spectator to think of their card, as you fan through the cards face
up. But hold on you are having real problems locating the spectators card! You take out multiple cards
and say is this you card! You are incorrect every time!! Looking rather embarrassed you hand the deck
back to the spectator and tell them you must be having a bad day.
Then you say hold on one moment! and ask them to place the deck of cards on your chest, saying
Im going to try something different, tell me if you feel anything?
Amazingly they say yes, a slight tingle or a warm sensation! Ask the spectator to take back the deck and try
and find their card, they cant! it has vanished completely! Here comes the KILLER you slowly open up your
jacket to reveal the spectators card is actually printed on your t-shirt! Not stuck on actually printed on! WOW.
This cool effect is not limited to a T-shirt either you can produce their card on the front of a cap that was
previously worn the other way round or even on a coaster previously covered with a drink. The list goes on...
THE SECRET: For this trick you are going to need to learn a simple card force. If you have no idea how to
do one dont worry I will explain a couple of really simple but effective forces that take hardly any practice
at all. Obviously if you know a more complex force please use it. For those of you who do not know what a
force is it is basically getting a spectator to unwittingly choose a card that you want them to. This way you
already know what card they will choose, so you can reveal their card in some truly extraordinary ways.
THE HISTORY: This trick was inspired by the magicians Penn & Teller. Back in the 90s Penn & Teller had a
T.V show on Channel 4 in the U.K in one of the shows they taught you a simple force, like the one I am
about to show you. Then they explained how to reveal the card in amazing ways. For instance taping a
massive three of Clubs to their backs, forcing a card on a spectator, getting it wrong a few times then BANG
turning around to reveal the card. Getting the card wrong a few times is a psychological necessity, it makes
you look silly and the spectator feel as though they have beaten you, they feel smug. But when you reveal
their card it BLOWS them away!
Another great reveal as it is called was when Penn & Teller actually got Jon Snow from Channel 4 News
to pretend to give a news report then half way through stop and say is this your card? holding up a
large three of Clubs! he then carried on the report. Penn & Teller allowed us to record it on V.H.S back in
the day. So obviously I forced a card on my friend, failed to find it a few times then switched on the T.V
and VCR simultaneously and watched as my friend was amazed that the news reader read out his card.
Great trick, that would still work today (although Jon Snow is a bit older now and you would probably
use a DVD player!)
As soon as you have forced a card on someone the reveal becomes very important. Do not just fan
through the cards and pull out the correct one! Yes sure its correct, but your spectator will more than
likely just say ok trick and walk on forgetting it very quickly, It is much more effective to reveal the
card in an extraordinary way. For an example place a duplicate force card under the cushion of a chair
that the spectator is sitting on. Use your imagination!
The main effect I am going to teach you takes the Penn & Teller principle and improves on it in a couple
of ways. One, the spectators card actually vanishes out of the deck and reappears somewhere else, and
two, the card appears printed on your T-shirt, Cap or Coaster etc.

CARD FORCE 1: Right lets learn how to force a card. There are many, many
complex card forces and they are great......if you want to spend months maybe
years practicing them to get them right. Lets assume that this is not the case
for you! The first force is called a count force. Start by having the card you
want to force on top of the deck. You can if you wish do a couple of false
shuffles (explained earlier) to pretend they are mixed (but still retaining the top
force card) Ask the spectator to think of a number between one and twenty
five. In fact the numbers you say are irrelevant, but you dont want to be there
all day so preferably don't say one to fifty two!
When the spectator says a number for example eleven say that's great,
now I want you to count down eleven cards from the top, into a pile then look
at the eleventh card like this. As you say this you need to actually perform the
actions that the spectator will do in a moment by counting down eleven cards,
when you get to the eleventh card, say you are going to look at this card and
memorize it (Pic 1) There is no need for you to look at the card or show the
spectator, simply place it on top of the other cards in the pile of eleven then place
the eleven cards back on top of the deck and give it to the spectator (Pic 2). What
you have now actually done is to place (or load) the force card which was on top
of the deck into the eleventh place (or whatever the number the spectator said)
So when they follow your actions and count down eleven cards then look at the
eleventh card it will be your forced card. Simple, but effective!
CARD FORCE 2: This one is called the cut force, and is perhaps easier than
the count force. This time start the trick with the force card on the bottom
of the deck (again you can perform a false shuffle if you wish) Place the deck
on to the table and ask the spectator to cut the cards anywhere they want
and place the two piles side by side. Then get them to place the bottom
half, side ways across the top half (Do not mention it is the bottom half just
gesture to it) (Pic 3). Leave the cards like that for a moment and just remind
them that they cut the cards wherever they wanted. They should say yes.
Then get them to look at the card they cut to and memorize it. The card
they are actually memorizing is the card that was previously the bottom
card of the deck, your force card. It seems so simple but as soon as the cards
are placed like (Pic 3) the spectators forget that theoretically that cut is the bottom card! The hard work is
now done, simply square up the deck and give it a shuffle. It may seem too simple to work, but it really does!
CARD FORCE 3: This is the hardest force to master, and probably also to explain so bear with me! Start with
the card you want to force on top of the deck. Hold the cards as shown (Pic 4). Riffle through the cards with
your thumb on the corner and invite
the spectator to say stop. As soon as they
say stop remove the top half of the deck
where they said but let your fingers curl round
and grip the very top card of the deck (force
card), so when you remove the top part of the
deck the top force card stays (gets stripped
from the rest and substitutes the card the
spectator would have cut to (Pic 5). Done
quickly this can performed unnoticed and
is very effective. Then simply let them take
the card they cut to but in actual fact it will
be the force card. Again the hard work is done.

PERFORMANCE: Once you have learned a simple force and have your
reveal set up, for example you are wearing a T-shirt from CafePress.com
HERE with the card on, simply cover it with a jacket and zip it up. Now you
are set. Force a card on the spectator eg. the Three of Diamonds, once they
have memorized it. Get them to shuffle the deck and take it back. Fan
through the cards (to yourself) pretending to try and find the card. Fail a few
times Is this your card the queen of clubs for example. Of course you are
wrong and the spectators feel smug!
This next part explains how you make the spectators card vanish
from the deck. It is not a strict necessity but does add an extra
PUNCH to the effect.
You need to actually locate the force card in the deck while fanning
through, then when you find it split the deck above the card and bring that
portion to the front of the deck (Pic 6). So in my instance the Nine of Clubs
on wards is brought to the front leaving the Three of Diamonds on top. To
your audience you are just fumbling to try and find the card. But what you
have actually done is to get the force card on top of the deck. Now go to
place the cards into your pocket as though you have failed at the trick, as
soon as the deck goes inside your pocket flick off the top card with your
thumb (Pic 7) so it stays in your pocket then quickly bring the deck back out.
This move should be done in a split second so it looks like you were going to give up and put the cards
away, but then you say hold on one moment! and ask them to place the deck of cards on your chest,
saying Im going to try something different, tell me if you feel anything? With the spectator holding
their arm out stretched with the deck of cards in their hand, of course they will feel something its the
blood draining (harmlessly) from their arm. It helps if you get them to grip the cards tightly.
It has been proven that most people will say that they feel something if you ask them in this type of
scenario, even if they dont necessarily, its psychological. If you hold your own arm outstretched with a
pack of cards tightly in your hand you will probably feel something too, maybe a tingling sensation.
Do not worry if your particular spectator says they feel nothing, this all adds to the suspense. All that is
left for you to do is to let them look through the deck to find their card. They will be amazed it has
vanished. Then open up your jacket for the KILLER reveal that their card is on your T-shirt! Very cool.

If you get a hat/cap for example perform the effect wearing it back to front, then when the spectators
card has seemingly vanished from the deck, turn you hat back the right way to reveal it.
If you perform at a table why not get a coaster and place a drink like a cup of coffee on top of it. Perform the
effect then reveal the spectators card to be under your drink! Maybe spice the trick up and have the chosen card
appear on your underwear! Your imagination is the limit - experiment. I would love to hear your own ideas!
EXTRA BONUS: T-SHIRT TRICK 2
This is a classic trick that is still pretty cool today. Look at (Pic 8) below and memorize a card, hold that
card in your mind, and concentrate on it.....Now look at (Pic 9). I will let you work out the secret to this
one. Normally you would not show both pictures side by side like I have! I have recreated this classic trick
on a T-shirt too! Click HERE Imagine turning around dropping your jacket and showing your back with the
cards on. Ask a spectator to memorize a card. When they have. Lift your jacket back on, turn around and
show the front of your T-shirt and
declare I have made your card vanish

COKE CAN
AS PERFORMED BY DAVID BLAINE ON T.V SPECIAL VERTIGO
EFFECT:
You show an opened, emptied and crushed coke can. Upon your command the can slowly restores itself, making noises as all the dents disappear.
You heal the hole in the top simply by passing your hand over it, so that the can is once again sealed and healed and looks like new! Now you open
the can with a pfzzzt! and the filled can is emptied into a glass with real original coke pouring out!
Can be performed with any fizzy drinks can! Impromptu, very little setup required Can can be examined and/or kept by a spectator
Gets an amazing reaction every time! Only one can is used, no switch! Reputation maker, become the talk of the town
THE SECRET:
There are no switches involved in this
trick. The trick is entirely self contained all
you need is an ordinary fizzy drinks can. The
trick makes use of Carbon Dioxide found
inside these types of drinks. I use Coke or
Pepsi as these fizzy drinks seem to contain
the most Carbon Dioxide.
PREPARATION:
1. EMPTYING THE CAN
Hold a normal full Coke or Pepsi can upside
down in the sink. Make a small pinhole
approximately 10mm (1/2 inch) from the top
of the can with a needle or tip of a sharp knife.
Pic 1 (The top being the part you normally drink
from) Try to find a place that hides the hole as
good as possible. There is normally a place in the
pattern of the can which will help camouflage
the tiny hole ie. A dark part of the pattern.
(BEWARE) The fizzy drink inside will squirt out of
the can at high pressure! Try to empty the can by
about one third. When there is about two thirds
of drink left in the can, turn it gently the right
way up so that it stops squirting out.
2. CRUSHING THE CAN
Now squeeze the can so that it looks crushed
and the fizzy drink fills the can up to the
needle hole. Make the dents as soft as possible
so that the power of the Carbon Dioxide does
not crack the can later when you restore it.
Simply try to press the can together by the sides
so that it gets a waist Pic 2.
3. MAKING THE CAN SEEM OPENED
Colour a piece of paper napkin black with a felt
pen. Cut the napkin to the shape of the can
opening. Then simply attach this black hole with
some water or saliva to where the hole would
be if the can were open Pic 3. The can now
looks opened, emptied and crushed. Another
way to make the can look opened is to turn the
can up side down and hold the flame from a
lighter at a small distance from the can. Soot
will collect in the opening (do this before
emptying the can) Wipe the edges clean with
your fingers or a napkin and there you have a
convincing black hole. Its easy to wipe this away
with your fingers when re-sealing the can.
HANDLING TIP
When the can is prepared, you have to experiment with how to handle it. You must be able
to handle it effortlessly as it is supposed to be empty. You can swing it around and even lie
it on its side, if the hole is upwards. DO NOT cover the hole with your fingers, this will start
the expansion too soon. Also DO NOT feel the need to seal the hole after preparing to avoid
dripping. The slightest movement will then start the expansion.
RESTORING THE CAN
To restore the can simply adjust the grip of your hand so your thumb covers the small hole.
If you now tense your arm so the fizzy drink starts to shake with a small movement (looking like
you are concentration really hard), the Carbon Dioxide will expand the can to its original state
(or very close to it!) Hold your thumb tightly against the hole to stop any squeaking noises.
Then sweep your second and third fingers across the open hole and secretly remove the small
piece of napkin (or wipe off the soot), making it look as though you have healed the hole.
Now you can actually open the can with the pfzzzt sound (remember to keep you thumb
on the small hole while doing this or the pfzzzt will not happen!) and empty the contents
either into your mouth, or on the floor, or into a glass if you have one handy. You can then
give the can away to one of your spectators, no one will find the small hole and it shows
the can as normal and not gaffed in anyway. This will Givie a greater impact to the trick.
PRESENTATION:
By far the best reactions from this effect is when it is done seemingly impromptu - ie you are
walking down the street with friend's, see an empty can and shout Excellent a recyclable
can pick the can up and perform the effect. When finished and they are startled you say
Well how to you recycle then? Obviously you have to prepare the can well in advance.
Carbonated drinks will stay carbonated for a surprisingly long time, as long as they are kept
perfectly still. So it is possible to load the prepared can ahead of time, in any location you
know that you will walk past again. For example beside a dustbin, in a bush in the park or
beside the foot of stairs etc.
Another idea is not to crush the can ahead of time, instead you pretend to empty the last drops
in your mouth or in a glass by letting go of the small hole as you tip the can. That way the last
drops will leak out (from the hole) and further sell the emptiness of the can. You can then
proceed to crush the can in full view of the spectators and then restore it! David Blaine
performed this trick with a beer can. The creamy foam produced by some beers suggests that
the can has been violently shaken so i would avoid using beer so as not to give the secret away!

YOU WILL NEED:
Double sided sticky tape or glue
An ordinary pack of playing cards (Bicycles are best)
PREPARATION & SECRET:
The best cards to use for this trick are the Magicians
Favourite Bicycle Playing Cards. You can get
some from Amazon.com HERE or Amazon UK
HERE. Take any ordinary playing card and one of
the jokers from the pack. Fold the joker card in two,
length ways and place some glue or double sided
sticky tape along one side on the face of the joker.
Carefully stick the face of the joker to the back of the
regular playing card. See pic 1 From casual holding
and showing front and back (pinching the card(s)
together on the open side) the card(s) looks normal.
However at any time you can unfold the back of the
joker card to act as a stand for the card to stand up
and support an object such as a glass. See pic 2.
The glass can be empty or contain liquid. You will
have to experiment with different glasses and the
amount of liquid to put in as the playing card(s) can
only take so much weight. But as you can see from
pic 3 the card(s) can hold a fair amount of weight.
To set the trick up place the prepared card into
the middle of the deck and get a glass with some
coloured liquid in. (The liquid in the glass adds to
the impressiveness of the effect as well as adding
cover so the spectator can not see the other card
through the glass).
PRESENTATION:
You can either casually shuffle the deck then look as if you are randomly taking any card from it to perform the trick but in fact
choose the prepared card. Or if you are a more experienced magician you could try the riffle force to cut to the prepared card.
The riffle force basically involves you holding the deck in one hand and riffling though the cards until a spectator says stop (because
the prepared card is in fact a double card the riffling will naturally stop at that card). All you have to do is time it right so when the
spectator says stop, you stop at the prepared card. This does take practice, but is well worth incorporating into the routine if possible.
The second way of forcing the card is obviously the preferred and most effective way but both options are available to you.
Once the card has been introduced, take a glass and fill it with any liquid (to the desired amount you have found to work best) You can
of course let the spectator examine the glass, there is after all nothing to find. The first thing you must do when performing the trick is
to place the glass on top of the card this provides cover as you open the stand and begin to balance the glass on the card. Once the glass is
balanced remove your hands and let the spectators gasp! Don't give them too much time to examine your feat - close the stand remove the
glass and place the card casually in the deck then the deck into your pocket. If the spectators ask to see the card you can always carry a
duplicate in you pocket and simply give them that to scrutinize! Remember practice, practice, practice and above all have fun with it. :)
ALTERNATIVE METHOD WITHOUT A GAFFED CARD: *BONUS* BONUS* BONUS* BONUS* BONUS* BONUS* BONUS*
EFFECT: The magician shown the spectator an empty plastic cup and a card. The card and cup are shown to be not prepared in any way.
Then miraculously, the magician balances the plastic cup on the playing card!
METHOD: There's a very simple secret behind this trick. 1. First, get a plastic cup and playing
card (can be chosen by spectator) 2. Give the two object to the spectator to examine
completely. 3. Once you have the objects, take the playing card and place it underneath the
plastic cup to balance. 4. When you're balancing the plastic cup on the card, behind the
card, you place the index finger of the hand holding the card on the plastic cup's bottom.
5. To the spectator you've just balanced a plastic cup on a playing card!
Performed well this trick is an absolute stunner! After you've performed the trick, you can
even hand the plastic cup and the card to the spectator to balance. They won't be able to
do it! They'll be absolutely amazed at what you have just done!

THE BALDUCCI LEVITATION - An illusion that can be performed anywhere, anytime.
THE EFFECT:
Amaze someone by gently rising about 3 - 5 inches off the ground.
PERFORMANCE:
1. Stand about 8 - 10 feet in front of the spectators with your back facing away, and
your body positioned at about a 45-degree angle to the spectators point of view. Pic1
2. Turn so that they can see your left foot and heel, and the back of your right heel.
3. Use your hidden right toes to slowly push
yourself up a few inches, keeping your
heels together. Pic2
4. Remember to keep the heel of the foot closest
to the spectators level with the ground, to
provide a sense of level levitation.
5. Hold the position for 2 or 3 seconds, then
let yourself down quickly, avoiding sudden
moves or shudders. See Pic3 for a front
view the spectators do not see!
TIPS:
Angle is everything. Practice this in front of a mirror or another person.
Lack of practice will surely give you away.
Turn so that the spectators can see your left foot and heel, and the back of your
right heel. If they see your right toes they will see how it's done.
Try to be subtle when doing this. Don't just say, "I'm going to float now." Say instead something like "Now watch my
feet closely" to make the spectators focus on the illusion. Make sure every one is on one side of you.
There's a good video called "The Self-Levitation Video" starring Michael Maxwell and Paul Harris, which is dedicated
to the Balducci Levitation, and contains lots of psychological subtleties which help to sell this effect.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Don't be tempted to go up too high or the spectators will see your toes! - Try to introduce a slight turn as your floating.
You might only rise 3 or 5 inches off of the ground, but it's all in the presentation - people will swear you went higher!
Don't give away your secret, and don't imply that the illusion is an illusion at all, but a power you picked up in the
far east which you've been sworn to secrecy not to reveal.

David Blaine is not the creator of this illusion. He has made the illusion popular, once again, with his television special, David Blaine: Street Magic.
But, we never really get to see Blaine performing the Balducci Levitation. We watch several times as Blaine performs it for others, but we never get
to see the Balducci Levitation for ourselves.
For the television special, Blaine performed the Balducci Levitation in front of several hundred different groups of people, and the camera was angled
only to catch their reactions. The method he used for this is the Balducci method, described above. While taping all the hundreds of performances,
the producers only used the audience members with the most visual reaction. After the Balducci Levitation, the producers of the show had these same
people stand by for another taping of the illusion, this time the camera would shoot from behind the audience members to get a clear view of Blaine
in action. The audience members were told that this second performance was to show them how magicians could use wires to levitate. And this is
exactly what happened. A small harness and rig (just out of the cameras view) was set up and Blaine performed a standard wire-suspension.
What Blaine did was a camera trick - known as a post-production edit. The audience at home watched the second (wire suspension) levitation
performance, with the audience reaction of the Balducci Levitation edited in. Sneaky heh!

LEARN TO LEVITATE
The King levitation is a levitation illusion developed by Corey King.
Some consider it to be a variation of the Balducci Levitation.
THE KING LEVITATION - An illusion that shows both feet
visibly in the air!
THE EFFECT:
The performer is viewed from the side. The performer's legs may be
covered (commonly with a jacket) at the beginning of the effect. At
this point the performer may patter, saying something like, You may
have seen other magicians levitate behind a jacket...". This is a reference
to the Sooperman levitation. The obstruction (jacket, etc.) would then be
removed. The performer's whole body is clearly visible. The performer
suddenly appears to levitate a few inches above the ground. Both feet
are clearly seen to be in the air. The levitation usually lasts just a few
seconds. When both feet return to the ground, the performer's legs may
again be momentarily obscured. The performer may again make a comparative
reference to the Sooperman levitation. Immediately afterwards the effect is complete, and the
performer (particularly the performer's clothing) and the area around the performer can be thoroughly examined.
HISTORY:
The King levitation is one of many levitation effects associated with the Balducci Levitation. Realize however that this
effect was not created as a variation on the Balducci Levitation. The effect was meant to be a new levitation illusion
that would be both beautiful and practical.
PERFORMANCE:
The biggest advantage of this levitation effect is that it is (like the Balducci Levitation) impromptu. It can be performed
anytime, anywhere, as long as the performer is wearing pants and shoes. It is more believable than the Balducci Levitation
because both feet are clearly seen in the air. However, it does require a small set-up that must be done under some kind
of cover (an obstruction or misdirection). It is also considerably more difficult to perform than the Balducci Levitation.
SECRET:
The performer stands so as to be viewed from the side. Under some kind of cover (usually a jacket, but possibly
another obstruction or even misdirection) the performer's foot that is farthest from the spectators is slipped out of its
shoe and positioned at a right angle to that shoe, with the heel of the foot placed against the heel of the shoe. After
the obstruction (jacket or other) is removed, the whole side of the performer's body can be seen. From the spectator's
perspective it is impossible to tell that the performer's far foot is out of its shoe, because it is hidden by the leg closest
to them. The performer's weight is shifted to the protruding leg, and the free shoe is pinched between the angled foot
and the shoe closest to the audience. The performer stands on the tip of the toes of the protruding foot. Again, the
protruding foot remains hidden behind the shoes, which are both physically in the air, creating the appearance of
genuine levitation. To end the effect the process is simply reversed.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
The key to this illusion is that the spectators assume that there is a foot inside of both shoes, which is only natural. When both
shoes are seen above the ground, it is then assumed that both feet are above the ground, and the performer is levitating. Note
that an obstruction (jacket or other) is generally used to hide the performer's action of removing, and replacing the foot in its
shoe. It is possible however to perform the effect without ever covering the legs, by using misdirection.
MIKE BENT'S ZERO GRAVITY:
This levitation is done using a gaffed shoe with a hole cut in the bottom. The levitation is performed similar to the
Balducci Levitation in that the magician stands on the ball of one foot while the other foot points straight out. This
levitation has very good angles up close but terrible angles from a distance. It is best viewed from two to three feet
away. Unlike the Balducci, the performer cannot crash down in the landing. It must be made smoothly and slowly.

SOOPERMAN LEVITATION - Rise and hover
several inches above the ground!
THE EFFECT:
The audience views the performer from the front.
The legs of the performer are obscured (usually by a
coat or jacket), so that only the performer's shoes are
visible. The performer then appears to rise and hover
several inches above the ground. The effect generally lasts
only a few seconds. When both of the performer's feet reach
the ground, the performer's legs are uncovered.
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES:
The Sooperman levitation method allows the performer to appear to levitate considerably higher than in the
original Balducci levitation. This levitation also has the flexibility to be performed for a larger group of spectators.
However, this method requires the use of cover (such as a jacket) during the performance, which makes the levitation
look less natural. Also, this illusion uses a gimmick, which means this variation is not completely impromptu.
HISTORY:
Paul Harris first published Sooperman in the book Super Magic (1977). A somewhat simplified version of the effect is
currently marketed as Wild Levitation with no credit to Harris.
SECRET:
Once the performer's legs are covered, the performer's shoes are attached to one another using some gimmick
(commonly a bulldog clip, magnets, or Velcro). This may be done under some guise, such as straightening the coat
used to obscure the legs. One of the performer's feet is secretly slipped out of its shoe and positioned behind the
shoes. The performer stands on the tip of the toes on this foot while also raising the other foot to create the illusion
that both feet (really one foot but both shoes) are suspended magically above the ground. The performer then simply
reverses the process to end the effect. Another impromptu way of achieving this effect is by taking both feet out of
their shoes, and instead of using the clip, the magician's sock-less foot toe grasps the edge of both shoes. One foot
supports (and can be "tip-toed" for extra height) while the grasping foot lifts up both shoes.
Sooperman is a Levitation illusion created by Paul Harris. It is another
variation of the Balducci Levitation. Currently sold as Wild Levitation.
BONUS LEVITATION EXPLANATION - THE ELIVATOR LEVITATION:
The elevator levitation is a sort a variation of the balducci. The magician shows himself clean in all possible ways (that
is: he has no instruments to assist him with his trick). Suddenly, he levitates three to four inches off the ground. Then the
magician comes down and is still totally clean. Peter Loughran has done an amazing job creating such an amazing affect.
The Elevator Levitation uses a gimmick that the magician uses to lift himself into the air, it is much better than the the
Balducci Levitation as published in Pallbearer's Review as it can be seen from better angles. Using the gimmick and setting
it in position require plenty of practice. The gimmick that the performer uses to create the illusion, is initially attached to
the performer. When the performer is ready to perform the illusion, he sets the gimmick and then rises into the air.
Another variation suggested in The Chronicles in the late 1970s , is called "Elevator 2". In this version, the gimmick is
much stronger, and can be carried in pockets more easily. The gimmick can be hidden and carried all day without the
performer realising it is there. The Elevator 2 allows spectators to look under the feet of the magician while he levitates.
The rest of the effect is virtually the same.

IMPROMPTU HORIZONTAL LEVITATION:
Your assistant rises horizontally while covered by a sheet!
THE EFFECT:
Your assistant lies down, on their back, on the ground. You drape a large cloth or blanket over their entire body. As you
stand over them and concentrate, their body begins to rise up off the ground, a full two feet into the air!!! Slowly you
allow them to be lowered back to the ground, where the cloth is removed, and everything is shown to be normal.
ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES:
This method allows the person who is levitating to rise up off the ground by a couple of feet or more, but the performer
is not seen while this is happening as they are covered by a sheet.
HISTORY:
This levitation is one of the earliest and has been around for centuries.
SECRET:
As soon as you read this, youre going to be disappointed. Youre going to think its too simple, and it will never work.
Let me assure you, it will. Although completely impromptu, and devilishly simple, this is one of the strongest pieces of
magic you could ever hope to perform.
Please give it the practice it deserves, and actually go out and perform it. Im sure youll grow to love it just as I have.
The first thing you need to know, is that you either need an assistant, or a stooge who will pretend to be a random
spectator, when in reality, they are in on the trick the entire time. The assistant is actually the one who performs most of
the work in this effect. Although, since there is only one real move, and an easy one at that, it could hardly be called
work. Have your assistant lie down on the ground, on their back. Now, take a large cloth or blanket (large enough to
cover their entire body), and pass it out to be examined.
Here comes the move. Stand beside your assistant, facing them, with your back to the audience. Lift up the cloth,
with your arms spread, in preparation to cover them with it. It is in this brief moment, when the cloth is shielding
the assistant from the audiences view, that the assistant secretly rolls over, and onto their stomach. Thats it.
Thats the only move in the entire effect.
As soon as theyve rolled over, simply bend down and drape the cloth over their entire body. (It must be their entire
body, dont leave any part of them sticking out of the cloth!).The rest is just acting. Stand above them, and mime as if
youre concentrating very hard to cause them to lift off of the ground. After a few moments, you want your assistant to
do a pushup, but keeping one leg perfectly parallel with the ground.
This is what creates the illusion of the levitation. So, as theyre doing their one legged pushup,
they should stop at the very top of the pushup for a few moments before slowly lowering back down.
This seems very stupid and simple, but I promise it KILLS!!! After theyve returned to earth, simply reverse
all of the motions at the beginning of the effect to end it: raise the cloth, the assistant rolls over again,
back onto their back, remove the cloth and let everything be examined.
Here is an impromptu levitation that is so simple, it almost seems too
simple to work. But it does and very well at that, try it you will see!

YOU WILL NEED:
A reel of black (or dark coloured) medium gauge nylon thread
Rubber Cement. You can gets some on Amazon.com HERE, my eBay store HERE or your local store.
PREPARATION & SECRET:
The secret to the trick is Rubber Cement. I find that the type you get in a bicycle puncture repair kit to be
very unsatisfactory and suggest eBay as a good starting point. The Rubber Cement is applied to your neck
before the performance and in secret. You only need to apply a very thin
layer approximately three inches high and six inches wide. (see pic 1.)
PRESENTATION:
Take the reel of thread and break about an arms length off, you need
about an arms length so you have enough to wind round your fingers to
get a good grip. Show the length of thread to your audience holding it in
both hands. (see pic 2.) Place the thread on your neck (in the centre of the
Rubber Cement band) and appear to start to saw the thread on your neck
- In fact you do not need to apply pressure at all because the thread will naturally pull your skin from left to right a
little which looks disgusting and painful but in fact is not. Obviously you are going to need to pretend that it really
hurts, so a bit of acting is required! When you have moved your hands back and forth a few times you need to do
the secret move which the trick relies on (but which does not look out of the ordinary) this is as follows: you need
to tilt your head down towards the floor, this sandwiches the thread in between the Rubber Cement and your skin. When you lift your head back up the
thread can be seen to be going right through your skin even with entry and exit holes! Obviously what is actually happening is that the skin on your neck,
which is naturally quite stretchy, is temporarily glued together over the thread in a pleat of skin, giving the impression it is inside your neck. Try it in front
of a mirror it looks freaky! You can let the audience have a fairly close look but do not let them get too close.
Its now time to have some fun with your audience! Who at this point usually find it quite hard to watch and
or scream, which is great and can be very satisfying! You can pull the thread from side to side, which stretches
and contorts your skin. The thread does not move within the pleat of skin, but just stretches the skin as you
move from left to right. You can even push the thread forwards a little, which stretches the skin outwards, or
backwards into your throat a bit, which again looks equally disgusting. Even try a circular motion, experiment!
For the finale of the trick you can do a couple of things. You can either use the left to right sawing motion
and begin to push the thread forward out of the pleat of skin, which to your audience looks as though it
is ripping right out of your throat. (see pic 3.) You can do this relatively slowly, so the audience has a
chance to see it in all its gory, glory and also so it does not cause you too much discomfort. When the
thread is out you can immediately give it to the spectators to examine and all you have to do is make
sure you tilt your head and neck back a bit to ensure the Rubber Cement has totally unstuck your skin
and no scar can bee seen. Your audience can even touch your throat briefly after the effect as the
Rubber Cement can not be felt and will only stick to itself, not anything else. The second way to finish
the trick is to turn you neck to the side and with one hand holding your neck, to cover the scar line, use
your other hand to pull the thread out of one of the holes, winding the string around your fingers as you
do it. This method can be a little uncomfortable so you may have to experiment to see which one works best for you.
TIP: As an impromptu method you can use dental floss as make shift thread. Although this tends to be thicker than the
thread and a little harder to manage it still looks pretty cool. Make sure you carry the Rubber Cement around with you
wherever you go and youre always prepared. Also you might like to try glow in the dark thread and perform at night!
TIP: To totally remove the Rubber Cement after the effect (with no one around) you can do a couple of things. You can
simply rub it off with your hand which works quite well. However I prefer to use a little White Spirit or Alcohol. The Spirit
will also need to be removed with soap and water to avoid irritation to the skin.
WARNING: THIS TRICK MUST BE PERFORMED EXTREMELY CAREFULLY - THERE IS A DANGER OF CHOKING, PLEASE ONLY USE
A THREAD WHICH WILL BREAK IF TOO MUCH PRESSURE IS APPLIED! If you find you are allergic to Rubber Cement, eg. get a
rash, stop doing the effect and seek medical advice. For Males It is preferable not to shave before performing the trick due to
the possibility of irritation to the skin. It is advisable to only perform this trick once or twice a day again due to skin irritation.
THIS IS AN ADULT ILLUSION - YOU PERFORM THIS EFFECT ENTIRELY AT YOU OWN RISK!
THE EFFECT:
The performer takes a reel of thread and breaks an arms length off
they take the ends of the thread in both hands and begin to saw
against the surface of their neck - suddenly the thread has broken
the skin and can be seen inside the performers neck! The performer
moves the thread back, forward and side to side, the audience can
clearly see the skin stretching and contorting! The audience can
even see an entry and exit hole where the tread goes through!
Suddenly the performer begins to saw more vigorously until the
thread breaks back through the surface of the skin. Everything
can then be examined there is nothing to find - Disgusting!!!!!!

NECKSAWINGILLUSION

The Effect:
You let all your spectators examine your arm and of course they find nothing out of the ordinary. You then treat your arm with some
disinfectant. This is an act to build up the realism, but its an important step which you will discover later!
You take an ordinary pen and mark an 'X' where your entry point will be, you then remove the inside ink-tube and proceed to push it right
through your forearm. The spectators can clearly see it going straight through your flesh and out the other side. At this point many become
freaked out and/or scream which can be a lot of fun! :-)
You move the pen freely in and out of the 'wound' a few times, then finally, when everyone is feeling quite sick!, you remove the pen,
give your arm a quick 'magic' wipe and there is no wound to be found! Priceless.
This effect can be played out in a couple of way:
1. Less gory way: You explain to your spectators you have discovered the ability to block pain and stop blood flow
2. More gory way: Pretend to be in extreme pain and discomfort and really draw it out! (this is the way I prefer ;-)
Any pen can be used and examined Your arm can be examined before and after - no fake skin!
Instant reset. Once you have finished the trick you are ready to go again!
The Secret:
The secret to this effect is Rubber Cement, it is this solution which enables the trick and is the same solution you pretend is disinfectant at the
beginning of the trick. This is the ingenious part because people expect that if your are going to push a pen through your flesh it would need
to be sterile and so the application of disinfectant (Rubber Cement) does not seem out of the ordinary! The pen does not actually penetrate
your arm, but actually lays beneath a pleat of skin. The arm is prepared with the Rubber Cement which causes the skin to stick together over
the pen - forming a pleat of skin. You can gets Rubber Cement inexpensively on Amazon.com HERE, my eBay store HERE or your local store.
When you have some Rubber Cement you can apply your own disinfectant label to the bottle to increase the realism, if you wish. Alternatively
just put some on a piece of cloth or cotton wool before the trick and this works just as well.
Any normal pen can be used but the best ones to use are the pens that can be unscrewed and the inside ink-tube easily removed. I find that
some pens like a Bic can be hard to remove the inside ink-tube.
Performance:
At the beginning of the trick when you apply the disinfectant to your forearm (which is in fact the Rubber Cememt)
you need to apply two 1 inch long, 2 inch wide strips, with 1 cm separating them (see pic 1) these measurements are
a rough guide and you will need to experiment to find what works best for you. The Rubber Cement needs about a
minute or so to dry but this time can be easily filled by explaining to the spectators what you are about to do and
how you have trained for many years to be able to perform it etc. You can also start to prod at your arm obviously
not too hard to actually pierce your skin though!
After the minute or so place the pen ink-tube in the 1 cm gutter and gently
push the pen with your forefinger, while using your thumb and middle finger to
fold your skin around the ink-tube . The Rubber Cement will temporarily stick the two pieces of skin
together creating a tunnel (or skin pleat) for the pen to freely pass through. (see pic 2) As you do this
you will need to temporarily bend your arm away from the audience to prevent them from seeing the
secret move. This is not a problem as it creates a build-up of tension as they are not quite sure if you
are actually going to do it or not (you can pretend to look very nervous as well to heighten the tension)
(see pic 3) Once the secret move is complete lower your arm and let everyone see the pen clearly stuck
through your flesh. At this point many people will not want to look! You can move the pen back and
forth to increase the illusion.
When everybody is feeling quite ill - remove the pen and give your arm a magic wipe this to the spectator looks as though you are healing
yourself, when in fact you are actually un-sticking your skin and removing the excess Rubber Cement. If you find that after this wipe you can still
see the Rubber Cement, try wiping your arm with a cloth that has a small amount of white spirit or lighter fluid on, as this removes it extremely
well. This can be disguised by having the Rubber Cement on one side of a cloth and white spirit on the other, so at the beginning of the trick use
the Rubber Cement side to disinfect your arm and then at the end use the other side of the cloth to disinfect your arm again, but in fact you
are cleaning any evidence away!
Tips & Tricks:
Applying an X marks the spot on your armwhere you are going to pierce the skin this gives purpose to using a pen
Let the spectators examine your arm and pen thoroughly, after all there is nothing to find so remind them!
Try using a pen with red ink - that way the X will be red and the spectators will swear they saw blood
(if the ink runs even better!) Try it, it works! Alternatively try adding fake blood into the routine, have fun with it
To aid with the pen going through the skin pleat freely try licking your fingers and rubbing the pen tube (this does
not look out of the ordinary if you say something like this usually helps to pierce through the skin more easily
If your forearm is quite hairy you may find it less painful if you shave it first
Do not apply the Rubber Cement too thickly, I find less is more, instead apply it slightly wider if necessary

YOU WILL NEED:
1. Any Note of your choice. 2. Black nylon line - make sure its extremely thin! or Magicians Thread. You can get some Magicians Thread
inexpensively HERE. 3. Clear sticky tape
TIP: One thing to keep in mind when using thread is that you should have lighter clothing to act as the backdrop to the thread not darker!
Darker clothes cause the light to reflect in a way that reveals the thread. So wear non-reflective lighter coloured clothes (not white!). This way
it is more invisible to the spectators. Also, pay attention to the lighting where you are performing and attempt to have the light coming at you.
You do NOT want the light to come from behind, because that will reflect off the thread and towards your spectators. Then they will see it!
SETTING UP THE MAGIC TRICK GIMMICK:
The beauty of this money magic trick gimmick is
that it's extremely simple to construct. No
complex mechanism to this gimmick, just string
and tape! The first thing you should do is fold
the note in half 3 times. Take a look at photos
1, 2 and 3 to get a good idea of how to fold it.
The next thing to do is to take the invisible thread
and using a sewing needle (get the thinnest
gauge you can find so it doesn't leave a sizable
hole), pass the thread through half of the note.
Take a look at picture 4 to get a good idea on
where to do this. I recommend finding a point in
the note where you are passing through a dark
part of the note and not the white. The part you are passing through is going to be the bottom of the gimmick and into the middle fold. The area
you are passing the invisible thread through should be four layers of the note. I usually place the note flat on a piece of wood and push the needle
down through the note so that I don't poke myself or widen the hole the needle will make. Carefully pull the thread through the folds.
Once you have the thread through, you need to attach it to the area adjacent to the hole on the other side of the fold (should be the center area). Use
the clear tape to do so. Your note should look like photo 5. Photo 6 shows a different angle where (A) is where the thread passes through and (B) is
where the thread is attached. Use a craft or scalpel
knife to precut the clear tape smaller or
alternatively, use Rubber Cement. You can usually
get some in my eBay store HERE or professional
modeling glue (not the type that is for plastic parts)
to attach the thread. If you do that, make sure it
dries completely before you use it, otherwise it will
be tacky and eventually break the bond.
The magician takes any bank note out of his pocket and shows it to
the audience. While displaying his hand open palm up with the note
unfolded and flat in the magician's palm, it suddenly begins to move.
But its not just moving, it folds itself up. First in half, then sideways
then once more until its completely folded neatly in the magician's palm!
SELF FOLDING
NOTE TRICK
INTRODUCTION: I love magic tricks that involve money or coins. They are so easy to carry around and make doing improv magic extremely
entertaining. Just think, you can pull out a note from your pocket or a coin and just do a trick. The fact that it's money throws people off so that
they don't expect anything! That's why I love this trick. It's easy to do, you can carry it with you everywhere, and you can mix it with other money
magic tricks! So here is the illusion:

Now cut the thread on the opposite side from where you have attached it.
Your cut should be about 12-15 inches (or more, you will see how long later)
away from the note and attach that end to something you carry in your
pocket. I recommend you read through the entire trick first before cutting so
that you can get a better idea of how long the thread should be. Attach it to
something like a wallet or deck of cards or whatever you might carry in your
front pocket. It really doesn't matter what it is, because it's just acting as an
anchor and will not be seen in the trick. Therefore, make sure its has some
weight to it. Preparation for this trick is pretty simple after you have
constructed the gimmick. Just carefully unfold the note so that its open
(photo 7 & 8). Give the thread enough slack to allow you to adjust the note.
I also would make the line a little slack just so when it starts to pull tight, it will
cause a small movement in the note to make it more dramatic.
Now, to make it clear, when you show the note to your audience, it should be folded. Try to be as casual as possible when unfolding. Once
unfolded your note should be laying in your palm. The thread that is coming out the bottom should follow between your fingers next to your palm
area. The thread will run from under your hand down into your pocket and be attached to the anchor. Find a comfortable length to hold your arm
in front of you and make sure you uphold a natural position. This will dictate how long you should cut the thread. So make sure you have your
hand at a natural position with the palm up displaying the unfolded note.
PERFORMANCE:
It's time for the magic! To make the note fold itself, gently move your hand away from your body. As your hand moves slowly (and hopefully
un-noticed), the note will start to fold itself! First it will fold itself in half! Then it will fold over in a different direction, and finally it will fold itself
one final time! Practice in front of a mirror to determine the best speed and motion to do this with. Once the note is folded all the way grip it with
your thumb and fingers and put it back in your pocket! - Your audience will be amazed!
TIP: You may want to do a slight of hand switch with your note to another note this way the audience can examine it and find nothing. If you are
inexperienced with slight of hand the easiest way is to have a duplicate note in the same pocket as you place the gimmicked one at the end of the
trick. That way if someone says lets have a look at the note you can reach into your pocket again and take out the un-gimmicked note for
examination. This is one of my favorite tricks and something I carry with me always - Have fun with this great illusion! :)
PREPARATION:
Take a strand of invisible thread or black nylon line depending on what you have and place a piece of clear sticky tape on both ends.
You will need about an arms length. Magicians Thread works best for this trick again you can gets some inexpensively HERE.
PERFORMANCE:
Attach one end of the thread using the clear sticky tape on the end to a wall, lampshade, post etc. Whatever is appropriate and approximately the
same height as your head. Do this ahead of time and just let the thread hand there until you are ready to perform. As long as its not in the way of
anyone, no one will notice it. When ready, place the tab of tape at the other end of the thread into your mouth between your gum and cheek. Do
this when no one is watching while apparently putting your hand to your mouth while clearing your throat. Back up just enough to create an ever
so slight tension on the thread. Borrow a note from a spectator and show it to be perfectly ordinary by holding it at both ends. This is done
underneath and not over the thread. Now bring the note up using both hands to about eye level with one hand on either side of the thread. Again
using both hand crumple up the note around the invisible thread.With the right hand continuing to hold the bill set it on the outstretched palm of
the left hand. Stabilise the note on the thread so that is isn't bouncing and slowly move both hands away from the note. The note should now be at
least a foot away from you and apparently floating in mid air! Using both hands, and being careful not to touch the thread, you can now slowly
and mysteriously move your hands around the note to prove that nothing is supporting it. Next by slowly swaying your body forward and back
you can cause the thread and note wrapped around it to raise and lower. By moving your body slightly from side to side you can also make the
note appear to float from hand to hand. When finished performing flatten out the note, hand it back to your spectator and as they are examining it
break the thread away from your mouth and let the loose end fall to the floor. TIP: It is best to perform this trick in a part of the room which is not
too brightly lit. The best background is on the dark side with patterned wallpaper, draperies, bookcases etc. So do not try this in sunlight!

TIP: The thread shown in the pictures is way too thick, just so
you can see it, the thread you need to get should be much
thinner for performing.
FLOATING NOTE TRICK
A borrowed note is rolled into a loose ball, placed on your opened palm and suddenly rises from your hand. The note then
proceeds to float from palm to palm. Your hands circle around the floating note dispelling any and all thoughts of how it might
work. The punch comes when you pass the note back to the spectator in the same condition it was when you received it!

THE EFFECT: You start by showing the spectators a deck of
cards and a sealed clear sandwich bag. Both are completely
ordinary. You hand the spectator the deck of cards to
shuffle thoroughly, then ask them to remove one card from
the deck and tell them not to show you. This is an
absolutely FREE choice, no FORCE involved! You then get
the spectator to sign the face of the card so they will
recognize it again later. When they are completely happy
you get them to place the card on the deck and you give
the cards a good shuffle.
Placing the cards on the sealed sandwich bag you spread
them out. You then ask the spectator to concentrate
really hard on their card. You take the sandwich bag by
the top (still sealed, untouched and in full view at all times) and lift it up from under the cards,
one card and one card only can be seen INSIDE the sealed sandwich bag. It is of course the
spectators signed card, AMAZING! Unseal the bag reach inside the and remove the card to show
that it really is the spectators signed card In the bag! They can, if they wish take the sealed
sandwich bag and their card home as a little souvenir!
Both the cards and sandwich bag are normal
Everything can be examined before and after the trick
No force the spectators card is a totally FREE choice
THE SECRET: The secret to this effect is fairly simple but it's the
presentation which really sells the illusion. Before you perform
secretly moisten the bottom right hand corner of the sealed bag.
About the size of a playing card. (Pic 1) (You can do this at the
beginning or after the spectator has examined the bag) Use saliva,
water or Magicians Wax. I simply use saliva. Get the spectator to
shuffle the playing cards and remove one. They then need to sign
the face. Take back the deck and get the spectator to place their card
on top of the pack. Now this is where you need to either do a false
shuffle, or false cut to keep the card on top of the deck, but you
need to make it look like it is lost in the deck. DON'T WORRY! there
are a couple of really easy ways to do this and I will explain a few
below. Choose the one or ones that work best for you. Eventually try
learning all of the fake shuffles so it looks like the card is WELL lost
in the deck. Dont make these a big thing, relax!
1) FAKE OVERHAND SHUFFLE - Hold the cards as if to do an overhand
shuffle but with the cards facing you. Instead of taking the cards from
behind (Pic 2) and bringing them to the front as you normally would
(Pic 3) grip the front and back portions of the deck lightly together
and remove the middle section of cards (Pic 4 scroll down).

2) FAKE RIFFLE SHUFFLE - Split the deck into two equal
portions (Pic 5) and interlace alternate cards together
(Pic 6) then square up the deck. Be sure that the portion
of the deck with the spectators card on, ends up being the
top card of the whole deck when it is riffled and squared
up (Pic 7). You can do this multiple times, just be sure the
spectators card is always left on top.
3) ADVANCED SLIGHT - An advanced move at this stage,
if you are more experienced with card slights is as follows:
When the spectator places their card on top of the pack
square up the deck but secretly palm the spectators card
into your hand. You can then give the deck back to them
for another shuffle, then when you take back the deck
secretly place their card back on top of the pack
pretending to square it up again. This advance move
is NOT necessary unless you feel confident to do it.
With the deck seemingly shuffled place it face up on the
bottom corner of the bag landscape where you have
moistened (Pic 8) and press on it a little. You then need to
gently spread the cards out all over the plastic bag (Pic 9).
Say to your spectator "Please concentrate on your card, if
you see it is anyone of these please do not tell me or give
it away" Of course their card will not be any of the ones
directly on top. At this point pretend to concentrate really
hard on the cards maybe placing your hand on the spread
out cards and pressing down on them. The next step is to
slowly and deliberately take the plastic bag from the top
and pull it out from under the cards. Do this openly and
at finger tips, after all you have nothing to hide.
You should now find that the spectators chosen and signed
card sticks to the bags back but from the front looks as
though it is actually inside! (Pic 10) At this point people
usually go ballistic! It looks so convincing, try it.
To make it look as though you remove the card from the
bag you need to grip the bag and card at the bottom
(Pic 11) to keep both still, then open the bag and reach
down into it with your fingers but keep your thumb out side
and behind the bag, this is so you can grip the card with
your thumb and pull the card upward (against the back of
the bag) pretending to remove it from the bag (Pic 12).
When you have seemingly removed the card from the bag
turn it over to reveal the correct signed card, then place it
back into the bag and hand it to the spectator to examine
or take home. Because the spectators are so amazed that
it is their card 'in' the bag they subconsciously forget you
took the card 'out 'and then put it back in the first place. Everything can now be examined!
TIP - Getting the spectator to sign the card is an important step in proving without doubt that it is their
card and not a duplicate. Incidentally Bicycle playing cards are the best to use for this effect you get some
inexpensively on Amazon.com HERE or Amazon UK HERE
