Reflection Day : Tuesday Date : 22 nd April 2014
Today, I brought my pupils to the computer lab for listening and speaking lesson. They looked excited because they would have their lesson in the other room.
Compared to previous lesson, this lesson was better because I integrated ICT and used song to introduce the topic. The pupils enjoyed the singing and they participated fully during the singing activity. Then, the Jumble, Arrange and Spell activity seemed interesting to them. It was done, in groups and I stationed each groups at different places. The pupils were really enjoyed the game, at the same time were able to improve their spelling. During post activity, I brought them back to class as none of them had brought stationaries as the later activity required stationaries. The Word Search was easy to some pupils and the rest still manage to find the words in the list. In conclusion, all the activities were suitable for their level.
However, I had an issue with classroom control. As this was first time brought them to the computer lab, they were making noise and were not listening to my instruction because they were busy with the computers. The pupils were expecting to play a computer, but they werent. the pupils were not behaving the way they used to be, maybe due to new environment. During Jumble, arrange and Spell activity, it was very chaotic as most of them could not control their excitement. Instructions were ignored and instead of doing stations game, I was able to complete one station game and during the third period, I brought them back to the class.

As usual, I learnt a lot from my mistakes. I realized that, in order to have better control of the class, the set rules and routines at the beginning of the school year must be emphasized each and every time pupils misbehaving. Keep reminding and rewards pupils who are behave and punish pupils who are misbehaving, probably they would learn from their mistakes. Besides, avoid lengthy instructions as most of them have short attention span. Activities must have good pacing, transition and momentum so that the flow of the lesson will be smooth.
