IMPORTANT REEA!E INFORMATION
This section outlines new features in TAFC R09 and contains important information for upgrading
clients. If you are upgrading from an earlier release of jBASE, please read and understand all the
release information details for each release before starting the installation.
j2(E > T(-# is the new name for j2(E. This name has been introduced to ease client
understanding and a)oid 6uestions such as ?I run an Oracle database, why do I need a j2(E
database@. The Temenos (pplication -ramewor9 # "ersion or T(-# is the new name for the
runtime part of the j2(E productA the database portion will continue to be called j2(E.
Release "i#$li#$ts
This section pro)ides an o)er)iew of any new T(-# components and ad)ice regarding any
components which ha)e been replaced or deprecated.
Release N%m&er !tan'ar'isation
In the past release numbers for j2(E, T$02rowser, and T$0 all had different formats, ma9ing it
harder for the user to insure that compatible components were installed. -rom +%B all
components for T$0 will use a standardised component numbering.
1ue to this it will be mandatory to install the new +%B )ersions of each component. -urther details
can be seen below.
Component (p'ates
*rior to +%B, a j2(E ser)ice pac9 was re6uired to resol)e any issue in any component. This
ser)ice pac9 may ha)e included unwanted changes to components the client was not interested
in updating. -or +%B, a new update process has been introduced that gi)es a client the ability to
find and apply CupgradesD on a component basis. This means it is now possible for changes to be
isolated and deli)ered with fewer fixes and for specific components. ( ser)ice pac9 installation
will still be a)ailable, but on the whole should not be re6uired.
TAFC A#ent
-rom +%B, a ser)er side agent process has been introduced to allow )arious client dri)ers to
connect to the Temenos (pplication -ramewor9 o)er a networ9. The agent supports unsecured
T#*EI* connections, secured , connections, compression with configurable threshold, and
three types of authentication ;none, user, and account<. The 3+emote client, O12# dri)er, and
312# dri)er all use the agent for connecti)ity and all benefit from the features mentioned abo)e.

TAFC Reso%rce A'apter
-rom +%B, a 3#( F.5 compliant resource adapter is a)ailable for 3a)a Enterprise Edition
applications to connect to the Temenos (pplication -ramewor9 # "ersion ;T(-#<. The 3a)a
#onnector (rchitecture ;3#(< is the 3a)a EE standard for (pplication er)er connecti)ity to
external systems. This enables applications li9e T$0 to utilise the connection pooling, security,
and transaction features of application ser)ers such as :ebsphere, :eblogic, and 32oss.

TAFC )Remote
-rom +%B, j+emote replaces 3a)aO2jE8 and .NETO2jE8. 3+emote is a nati)e 3a)a or .NET
(*I for remote applications ;clientEser)er architecture< to access the T(-# runtime. This
connecti)ity is )ia the T(-# (gent and is the basis for the T(-# +esource (dapter.

TAFC Monitor
T(-# +%B has a new monitoring component and allows M:0$ type information to be accessed in
a :eb 2rowser or )ia a 3a)a Management Extensions ;3M8< console. This component pro)ides
access to additional information about the j2# stac9 that was pre)iously una)ailable and is the
basis of the T(-# section in the T$0 monitor.

system using 4,.
*rior to +%B, O12# support in j2(E was pro)ided by the j2(E j1* component and the (ttunity
#onnect third party product. O12# access to the j2(E database is now a)ailable using a nati)e
j2(E O12# dri)er that connects to j2(E )ia the T(-# (gent. This is a fully featured O12#
dri)er that can be used from Excel, #rystal +eports, and many other popular :indows client
applications.

j2(E )ia the 3a)aO2jE8 ser)er. This j2(E 312# dri)er is a Type 0 312# $.% compliant
dri)er that connects to j2(E )ia the T(-# (gent. This is a fully featured 312# dri)er that can
be used in 3a)a tandard Edition and 3a)a Enterprise Edition applications.

The j2(E 4, Engine ;j4,< has been enhanced to support data modification ;INE+T,
/*1(TE<, data definition ;#+E(TE T(2,E, (,TE+ T(2,E, 1+O* T(2,E<, database meta data
;1E#+I2E< and has some support for simple 3OINs. In +%B, j4, has also introduced the
concept of an 4, catalog. The 4, catalog pro)ides the ability to map 4, )alid table names
to j2(E filenames. This is useful when an application, such as T$0, uses non 4, characters in
its file names. T(-# +%B supplies an rdbms#atalog routine to populate the catalog from the
"O#.

-rom +%B, 3(uthenticate is no longer supported. It is recommended that clients use 3a)a

2efore upgrading you T(-# installation please ensure you have sufcient disk space available.

Transfer the archive to the target machine and untar the archive to a suitable directory.

If you ha)e an earlier )ersion of j2(E installed you should stop all j2(E processes, ser)ices,
and sa)e any system configuration files before proceeding with the installation of T(-#.
