ABSTRACT

The virtual reality is a new way into new worlds we never were able to reach, with no limitations
both physical and psychological. Its a revolution in people interaction and also, it would be
possible opportunities. Nowadays, we can mention two kinds of virtual reality: immersive and
non-immersive. The first one, could be understood as the most complete one in user experience.
This one uses objects as helmets, gloves, sensors etc. Otherwise, in the non-immersive reality, we
dont need to use other devices besides the computer. This one resembles to Internet surfing,
because it works representing an unreal world on our computer. In this paper, we are going to try
to explain its possible uses, its evolution through the history, the recent studies and political issues
that could be unleashed. Also, we are going to postulate our idea of how should virtual reality be
developed, and make a special emphasis in scientific and technological studies. As conclusions, we
will express our personal opinion about the impact of virtual reality in our society and agree or
disagree with the implementation of this revolutionary way of entertainment.


INTRODUCTION
Virtual Reality is an interactive system for synthesizing a fictitious three-dimensional world,
creating you an illusion of reality. Its a phenomenon that we perceive through the senses that
takes place in a fictional space; a break from reality. We invite you to read this paper and join us in
this adventure of discovering this awesome way of entertainment, by analyzing the history, its
uses, researches, and issues, studies, to figure out conclusions and formulate your own personal
opinion.

USES
The virtual reality uses are huge. The technology can be used to allow different
fields and sciences to teach processes and do investigations with cartography and
to predict results.

Architectures: It has been used to establish arquitectonic and buildings before the
construction starts.

Meteorology: IT can be used to process several information gained from satellites
and create models which can simulate the predicted weather effects.

Army: There are rooms which simulate real situations about the environment the
soldiers will be deployed.

Medicine: The most common application in this field is the combination of images
provided by several scanners and join them to present the details.

ISSUES
In the actual state of technology, there still are a big number of important problems
to solve to guaranty our satisfaction as future users of Virtual Reality.
The main problem within this topic is the Haptic Feedback, which is the effect of
simulate the reality opposing force fields which allow, for instance, by crashing or
pushing objects, get an opposition or rejection by those force fields.
The Delay is the measure of time between the moment in which a person moves
and the moment in which the computer register the movement. The actualization
rate of frames is the number of frames which a computer can generate in a
determinate lapse of time. Therefore, the Delay Issue is due to the low rate of
frames when using the Virtual Reality.
Other of the most common issues is the sickness by the prolonged use of
immersion in virtual worlds, when the users are flying o spinning etc... Its
symptoms resemble the ones felt by astronauts when they get in free fall o by dizzy
passengers on a boat.



STUDIES

1. HVVR: Is a device created by engineers and specialist of the California
University. The machine develops an image which can be touched by the
users like it was a real object.

2. Cyberwalk: Its a platform where we can move without problems in the
virtual worlds and it follows our steps, no matter what direction were going

3. Airbone Ultrasound Tactile Display: It allows to touch virtual objects in 3D
without gloves. The gadget creates tactile images by ultrasound.
