Hunters discover
fatal crash here

Happy Halloween!
Oooh, gross! The creepy crawlers and creatures of Halloween are truly intriguing, including
this true-to-life arachnid that was photographed right here in Glasgow in mid-October. It is a
huge, scary looking dude (didnt stick the finger in to see if it had a good pinch or not); if you
put it on a fifty-cent piece, his/her legs would well over extended it (this photo is just a little
over actual size!). Put it this way, this was one wicked-looking spider: a harmless Orb Weaver,
perhaps? What we do know is that its not a sage grouse. Hopefully our expert birders, Chuck
Carlson or Sam Espeland, will have some knowledge from their wildlife adventures on this
critter as well. It is believed that some three-quarters of the human population are intimidated
by spiders in one form or another. A story about spiders is in todays Buzz... Happy Halloween!

The Montana Highway

Patrol is investigating a fatal
crash after a group of hunters
stumbled on a dead body
inside a wrecked SUV near
Glasgow on Thursday.
MHP estimates the
initial wreck occurred on
September 19th after a
52-year-old man from Rock
Springs, Wyoming, drove
off Gilbertson Road, about
a mile east of Highway 24
north of Glasgow.

The man was driving a
GMC Suburban east when he
drove off the road, hit an old
piece of farm equipment and
then flipped down a steep
embankment, landing upside
down.
The man was not
ejected; his body was trapped
inside for 42 days before it
was found Thursday by a
group of hunters in the area.

When I get around to it...

There are three candidates running for the Justice of

the Peace position in Glasgow; Im sure two will do a very
good job, C. Gamas (write in vote) or Christina M. Hillman.
I would like to remind the voters about the multiple
felony thefts in and around Glasgow when the Professional
Walleye Trails Fishing Tournament was here to fish Fort
Peck Lake back in the 90s. Many of the pro fishermens
boats were broken into and fishing tackle, rods, reels and
equipment were stolen. I had a vehicle stolen and robbed
of a very expensive stereo system and through weeks of
investigation with a friend, we were able to determine
who the culprits were but they had fled to Havre with the
stolen loot. The Valley County Sheriff went to Havre and
arrested the thieves and brought back two truckloads of
stolen property in which one of the many items was my
stereo system. I was told by our GPD the arrests solved 1618 individual crimes of theft.
After weeks of waiting, I contacted Dave Gortons
office by phone for information about my stolen property
and the thieves who were incarcerated. When talking to
Mr. Gorton, I asked when the thieves would be formally
charged and prosecuted. Mr. Gorton replied to me, when
I feel like it to which I replied, what do you mean when
you feel like it and Dave Gorton then replied when I get
around to it and he hung up the phone.
I wrote several letters to the editor in our local news
paper, letters to the Valley County Commissioners and the
State of Montana seeking leverage to force an explanation
for the conduct of Dave Gorton and his office no
explanation was ever given and the thieves were simply
released without prosecution.

I am asking the voters of Glasgow and Valley County
not to get around to voting for Dave Gorton and I am
asking the voters to (write in) C. Gamas or check Christina
M. Hillman on November 4th.

Eureka!

Just a fun word to pronounce, Eureka. The Lincoln
County Lions are making the nearly 500-mile trip to
Glasgow, bringing a 3-6 overall record for the first round of
the Class B football playoffs to face the undefeated Scotties at
9-0. Temperature at kickoff looks to be around 55, and the
Scotty passing game should be on fire as wind is looking to
be maybe around three miles an hour slowly kicking up to
around 5 to 7 mph by games end.

Following a likely Scotty victory, a storm system will
bring rain showers to northeast Montana by Saturday night.
The rain may mix with and change to snow Sunday night
into Monday. Light snow accumulations may be possible
over the Little Rockies and near the Canadian border.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 34. East

southeast wind 13 to 18 mph decreasing to 7 to 12 mph
after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. Calm wind
becoming east 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: A 30 percent chance of rain, mainly after
midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34. East wind
8 to 11 mph.
Sunday: A 50 percent chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high
near 45. North northeast wind 6 to 16 mph becoming west
northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as
23 mph.
Sunday Night: A chance of rain showers before midnight,
then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a
low around 29. West northwest wind around 15 mph, with
gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. West
northwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 22
mph.
Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 29.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 52.

Miss Christine Gamas, candidate for

Justice of the Peace, is predjudicial, has a
temper which flairs up when she doesnt
get her way. She does not follow the rule
of law and picks and chooses which MCAs
she will abide by, not all of them. She, as
Clerk, is in breach of MCA 46-17-102,
which requires her to keep a docket of all
items entered into a case file. She ignores
FOIA laws, by not producing public
documents when properly requested. She
does not have the attributes of a bias free
holder of a public official in an office of
trust. I would vote for another candidate.

I am just wondering why the Valley County

Deputies are the ones debating the current issues
brought up by Glasgow Police Officer and Valley County
Sheriff candidate Joe Horn. Shouldnt the Valley County
Sheriff, Glen Meier be answering the issues?
I also dont quite understand why Valley County
Commissioner Dave Pippin is telling the Valley County
tax payers to come see him for the facts on the spending
in Valley County, is there more to the paperwork that
the Valley County Clerk and Recorders Office is printing
out?

Valley County Sheriff Glenn Meier and his deputies
have been saying how the communication between the
Glasgow Police Department and Valley County Sheriff s
Office is good, but still the Glasgow Police Department
is not cross deputized. This issue was brought up four
years ago at the Glasgow High School debate, and we
as Valley County residents were promised by Sheriff
Glen Meier and Valley County Attorney Nick Murnion
that this matter was being handled, but WHY has it not
happened?
Is the communication really happening if they are
not willing to work this issue out?

IN response to Terry-Lee

In response to some derogatory references with my
character via the Glasgow Courier:
I would like to make a simple, accurate response
that Mr. Terry-Lee, state citizen of St. Marie, Montana,
is the same person who does not believe that he should
have a current drivers license to operate a vehicle on
Montana state highways. He is not a current registered
voter in Valley County.
~ Sincerely,

Christine Gamas

Why vote for Joe Horn, when all hes done is whine
and cry like a little girl about Glenn Meier and all the
spending done in the past on the Sheriff s Department.
This spending is what has made our Sheriff
Department one of the best in the state.
If you love your kids, vote Meier, he and the
deputies have a no nonsense policy when it comes to
drugs and crime and they have proven it time and time
again.

If Joe Horn is such a great law enforcement officer,
why isnt he the chief of police? Hes been there 12 plus
years.
We need to keep Glenn as sheriff, hes proven his
worth, Horn hasnt.
Come on Horn, put on your Big Boy Pants, quit

From identifications to cataloging species present in

Montana, experts with Montana State University Extension
often address questions about spiders. Schutter Diagnosic
Laboratory on the MSU campus offers information and help
to the public in identifying spiders and other insects.
While there is conflicting information on the Internet and
in the media, the brown recluse is not native to and cannot
survive in Montanas cold, dry climate. Its native range is
from southeastern Kansas south to Texas and east to western
North Carolina and south to southern Georgia.

It is extremely unlikely that any spider bite from this
area is from a brown recluse, said Lauren Kerzicnik, insect
diagnostician at the Schutter Diagnostic Laboratory. While
we often receive submissions from people wondering if a
spider is a brown recluse, we have never positively identified
one in Montana.

Identifying a brown recluse is difficult because it has a
violin pattern that is common to many spiders. Brown recluse
spiders have six eyes that are arranged in three pairs of two
behind its head. To be sure, identification of a brown recluse
must be done by a trained arachnologist or entomologist.
Brown recluse bites are consistently misdiagnosed in
areas where the spider is not present, including Wyoming,
Colorado and Montana. The venom of brown recluse spiders
contains a component called sphingomyelinase D, which
creates mild to severe necrotic lesions in the immediate area
of the bite.
Reactions to the toxin in the venom delivered from
the brown recluse bite mimic several other types of medical
issues, including bacterial infections, chemical and allergic
reactions, lymphoma and other conditions. The spider is
often erroneously blamed for bacterial-caused rashes and
lesions that have nothing to do with spiders or spider bites
but, rather, are caused by some other wound or puncture that
allows bacteria to enter the body.

Bites from brown recluse spiders do not typically cause
body-wide or systemic reactions. The venom itself does not
cause infection. Instead, the open wound creates an entry
point into the body for bacteria. The only way to confirm that
a spider or insect is responsible is if the specimen is captured
and identified.
The only spider commonly found in Montana with
venom harmful to humans is the black widow. Its venom
causes latrodectism, which results in persistent sweating,
muscle cramping, and other neurological responses. Bites
from black widows are very rare.
The hobo spider, which has also been called the
aggressive house spider, is present in most of central and
western Montana. It does not cause necrotic lesions and is
not directly harmful, despite misinformation on the internet.

There has been significant research on this subject over the

last decade and any suggestions that hobo spider bites or
lesions are dangerous has been discredited. Nevertheless, if a
wound becomes inflamed or soreness persists, medical care
should be sought as secondary infection can enter the body
through the wound.
To minimize the risk of spider bites, take caution when
working in crawl spaces, garages, the laundry room, and in
areas that are not often encountered. In general, bites are rare
from spiders because they are small, their fangs are small, and
they lack the musculature to pierce the human skin. If think
you have a spider bite, see a dermatologist if your symptoms
persist.
Facts about the brown recluse and other spiders in
Montana:
The brown recluse has never been positively identified in
Montana
The brown recluse bite causes localized necrotic lesions on
the skin due to a toxin in its venom
Necrotic lesions can be caused by several factors, including
some spider bites or secondary infections in the bite area
The most common cause for such necrotic lesions in
areas of the country where brown recluse spiders are not
found (such as Montana) is MRSA (Methicillin Resistant
Staphlococcus aureus infection)
A brown recluse spider must be identified by an experienced
professional
The black widow is the only spider harmful to humans that
has been identified in Montana
Hobo spiders are present in Montana but are not aggressive
and do not cause necrotic lesions

If you find a spider or insect of concern, please place it
in a leak-proof container and either freeze it or preserve it
in rubbing alcohol. Bring the sample to your local county
Extension office or send it to the Schutter Diagnostic Lab at
119 Plant BioScience Bldg, PO Box 173150, Bozeman, MT

ATTN: Trick or Treaters If youre running from the

monster tonight, expect to trip or fall down at least twice, and
there is probably some dog doo-doo in the path. Also note
that, despite the fact that you are running and the monster is
merely shambling along, its still moving fast enough to catch
up with you. So be careful out there!

Friday Funnies
by Sugar

A Dutchman was explaining the red, white, and
blue Netherlands flag to an American.

Our flag is symbolic of our taxes. We get red when
we talk about them, white when we get our tax bills, and
blue after we pay them.
The American nodded. Yep... its the same in the
USA, only we see stars too!

Adam and Eve had an ideal marriage. He didnt
have to hear about all the men she could have
married, and she didnt have to hear about the way
his mother cooked.

A flying saucer was low on fuel, so it landed by a
gas station on a lonely country road. On its side were the
letters UFO. The gas station attendant was stunned,
but his curiosity got the best of him.
Does that stand for Unidentified Flying Object?
he asked.
No, one of the other-worldly travelers responds,
It stands for Unleaded Fuel Only.

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after
a while they got to know each other so well, they
decided to get married.

One broom was, of course, the bride broom, the
other the groom broom.
The bride broom looked very beautiful in her
white dress. The groom broom was handsome and
suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely.
After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the
bride-broom leaned over and said to the groombroom, I think I am going to have a little whisk
broom!
Impossible! said the groom broom, we havent
even swept together!

(Sounds to us like shes bee sweeping around...)

Question: What is a lazy persons favorite exercise
routine?
Answer: The diddly squat.
