Explanatory Notes for Ratified Results

Your results show the mark for each assessed module component, the overall Module Mark (or Aggregate Mark) and the
Module Result agreed by the exam boards, they may be different from provisional marks you have previously received
A module is assessed on coursework, by examination, or by a combination of the two !here may be a number of assessed
components per module "ach component will have a mark #f an assessment was not, the exam board will have awarded a

"ach assessed component of a module is given a %weighting& !he weightings for each component of a module add up to
'(( )or each component you will have an Actual Mark (the mark given by the assessor) and the *eighted Mark ((Actual
Mark+*eighting),'(() )or example, if the Actual Mark is -., and the *eighting is /(, the *eighted Mark is 01
!he Aggregate Mark has been calculated using the module weightings )or module weightings please refer to your Module
2uide or 3ourse Regulations !o pass a module at level 4, ', 5 or 0 you must achieve an aggregate mark of 1(6 and,
normally, the minimum element mark specified by the 3ourse Regulations !he pass mark for masters modules is /(6 You
must pass all modules in order to progress to the next level although, in certain circumstances you may be allowed to
progress with one, or possibly, two failed modules provided that you have made a serious attempt to pass these modules
Marks for components which are repeated will be capped at 1(6 for undergraduate and /(6 for postgraduate modules
!he Module Result (or Module 2rade) is indicated by a code !he codes used are as follows7

Module credited through prior learning or experience
CD 3ondoned !he :oard recognise that extenuating circumstances have affected the student;s
performance and deem the result as a pass although the mark remains unchanged
CP 3ompensated !he student has not met the full re<uirements to pass the module, but having
achieved an acceptable level of performance across all modules taken and also met
a specified minimum level of performance in the failed module, has been allowed to
progress or receive an award without the need to redeem the failure
D =istinction !he student has passed the module with distinction (only available for modules
contributing to the award of an >?3 or >?=)
DC =eferred in coursework !he student has not attempted one or more assessments for reasons accepted by
the "xam :oard, and is entitled to another opportunity to do so as a first attempt DE =eferred in exam
DF =eferred module
DP 8assed Module after
=eferral
!he module has been passed after two or more attempts !he mark may have been
capped at the pass mark if the student has previously been referred on the module
DR =eferred following
Referral
!he student has been deferred in the module, in which they were previously referred
and therefore the module mark will be capped on the next attempt
E Assessment not yet due !he student assessment is not yet due
F )ail !he student has failed the module and is not eligible to repeat
FF )ail !he student has failed the module and is not eligible to repeat
FD )ailed following =eferral !he student has failed the module after previously having been deferred in one or
more components
FE )ail and re@attend !he student has failed but is permitted to repeat the module in the next academic
year with attendance !he student must retake all components of assessment, even
those that have been passed Module marks will be capped at 1(6 for
undergraduate and /(6 for postgraduate modules and a fee will be charged

M Merit !he student has passed the module with merit (only available for modules

PF 8rotocol )ail !he student has not met the full re<uirements to pass a module but has fulfilled the
criteria defined by the "xam :oard for the module and has sufficient credits to be
eligible to progress or receive an award, without making good the failure
R Referred !he student has failed one or more components of the module, but is allowed to re@
take the failed component(s), before the start of the next academic year, in order to
obtain a pass Marks for components which are retaken will be capped at 1(6 for
undergraduate modules and /(6 for postgraduate modules
RC Referred in coursework
RE Referred in examination
RN Referred into next
