Errata 10/29/2014

Note: References to sentences are denoted by Page number, section number, PxSy. Thus, Pg. 89, 4.2.6,
P1S2 means Section 4.2.6, paragraph 1, sentence 2. Paragraphs are always counted starting on the given
page, even if the section number begins on the previous page.

CHAPTER 2
1 Equation (2-5)
While this equation is fundamentally correct, it assumes the reader is
using the $92 per hour rate for engineering. If the reader knows the
actual rate the constant 2.0969 should be omitted and the equation
should be
ENG ENG ENG
R H C = . This will be clarified in the next
version of the book and both versions will be present.(IMPORTANT
NOTE: Second Edition is not yet planned and, if so, may not be published
until sometime after 2017.)

2 182 7.1, P2S1 gas turbines should be turboprops
3 217 7.3.2, P2S2
The following is not an error, but rather a helpful clarification that will
be added in the next edition (IMPORTANT NOTE: Second Edition is not
yet planned and, if so, may not be published until sometime after 2017):
"However, the standard flow equations do not apply to the flow through
the radiator itself. In fact, both pressure and airspeed drop through the
radiator (whereas we would expect one to increase and the other to
decrease using conventional flow equations). In reality, the flow through
the radiator is highly turbulent, as it is being obstructed (slowed down),
and is absorbing thermal energy. For this reason, the flow condition at
the aft face must be estimated using empirical information provided by
the engine manufacturer. It should help in relating to what is happening
inside the radiator by noting that air is "trickling" through it, hopefully in
enough quantity to carry away the heat generated by the engine."
