When Periyavaa was giving darshan, four or five Vidwans who had come for darshan, were sitting on
the floor.
In the course of his conversation (with the devotees), Periyavaa asked them, When Bhaktas do
namaskaram to me, I bless them with the name Narayana, Narayana. What do you people who are
samsAris say for blessing?
We say, [b]dIrgha AyushmAn bhavaH[b]; only that is the custom.
What does it mean?
Remain in saukyam for a long time is its meaning.
Periyavaa asked all the Vidwans present there, one by one. Everyone said the same meaning.
Periyavaa remained in silence for sometime. Then he said, The meaning you all said is a wrong one.
The Pandits were taken aback. Everyone of them was a bade bade Vidwan, and had earned the
Siromani title.
For the Samskrta Vaakyam Dirgha AyushmAn bhavah even those with a little knowledge of
Samskrtam can tell the meaning. Such simple words! Yet Periyavaa says the meaning is wrong?

Shall I tell it myself..? The Pandits sharpened their ears.
Of the twenty-seven Yogas, one is named AyushmAn. Of the eleven KaraNas, one is the called the
Bhava. Among the week days, the Saumya Vaasaram falls on a Wednesday. When all these threeon a
Wednesday, the AyushmAn Yoga and the Bhava KaraNaoccur together, that day is said to be
shlAgya. Therefore, if these three occur together, whatever good phalas would be got, I bless that you
may get all those fruits
All the Vidwans got up in together and did namaskaram to PeriyavaaL.

Never a day is complete without logging onto this site.Experiences that you have recorded and
made available creates a deep imprint and creates continuous introspection,Each of the video not
only leaves one dazed , surrendered , joyous and tears in eyes about Mahaa Periavaa,it also
provides great lessons and inspiration on how a disciple should be-ekaagrata,shraddha ,total
surrender ..which are demonstrated by many disciples as expressed in the videos is also a learning
for the generation to come.

dIrgha AyushmAn bhava is a complete benediction like ciranjIvi bhava. bhava is the verb.
Assuming Mahaperiava did indeed give the interpretation as stated in the article, the word dIrgha
seems to become meaningless and there would be no verb. While we mortals make such
benedictions (dIrgha AyushmAn bhava etc.), truly great people like Mahaperiava do simply utter

nArAyaNa etc in keeping with the dictum sarva dEva namaskAraH kESavaM pratigacchati.
Though guru stands on a totally different footing, it is their humility that they invoke nArAyaNa
etc while blessing devotees.
Therefore, I have serious doubt whether this interpretation is really true or whether it is an
interpolation by some clever Sanskirt scholar. If I am wrong, I sincerely apologise for my
transgression. However, if what I say is correct, then I can only say that people of indulging

Periyavas interpretation is really true. All the karanas like bhava have phalams in life. Those
phalams be of good ones eliminating bad or evil ones. What is the use of living long with evil in life
and invite suffering? Wednesday, Pon us dayskidaithalum Bhudan Kidaikkaadu, is an auspiceos
day. Periava was brilliant. Ther is no other go but to worship himsince all the Gnanis become God

I still feel that this interpretation has not been given by Maha Periava. Some astrologer is
weaving stories. We need to trace the origin of this story. Otherwise. this has to be taken only
with pinch of salt.
