Rule of thirds this magazine actually

breaks the convention as there is no use of

the rule of thirds, neither in the main image
or the layout of the whole article. The rule
of thirds is a typical code and convention of
magazines that most magazines conform to,
however this magazine does still fit in
making it owns branding and house style.
This can also denotes the genre being
rebellious going against the code.
Font and typography The front of the main
image is easy to red and quite big as it takes up
also half the page bringing instant attention
towards it. Each word is on a slight tilt creating a
disorganised and chaotic atmosphere; however
this conforms to the genre of the magazine. The
main text uses a dropped capital y to begin
the article, this bring attention to it and brings
the page together as it matches the main
heading.
Basic layout the double page has been
split up into a grip consisting of two
columns. The image is placed on the left
whereas the text has been placed on the
right side. This is so the reader can clearly
see where everything is and it is easy to
read the font. However, the background has
been spread across the double page telling
the reader it is a double page spread.
Colours The colours used on this page follow
the house style and branding of NME magazines.
All the colours tend to be very bold and stand
out, mostly red, black and white. The red is a
signifier with danger, revealing the rebellious
and edgy side to the artist (Dizzee Rascal).
However, the black is a formal colour showing
the smartness and sophistication of the
magazine. The background colours are very
bright and vibrant reflecting the many other
character traits the artists/genre has.
There is no page numbers used on this
particular double page spread, this is
because it about one article rather than
looking like a contents page. On this image,
there seems to be no page number to tell
the reader where they are however, there
may be in the issue.
Main image The main image is of Dizzee Rascal
looking as to be doing graffiti with an over the
shoulder look, reflecting he is looking out to see
if anyone if coming. This denotes the genre of
music, being rebellious. The main image is
placed differently to most other magazines. This
magazine clearly on one side of the magazine
which is unusual, this gives the audience a feel
of the article using images.
The main heading from tags to riches, relates to the rock genre of
NME. It implies to the audience a rough and rebellious background
doesnt change what you can be, riches infers the glamorous roc star
lifestyle, which is reinforced by the main image of the artist wearing
what looks like an expensive designer jacket. The text is also in black,
again conforming to the house style and branding of the magazine.
Mise en scene The scenery of this double page spread denotes the
lifestyle of this particular artist of the genre rock, for example the empty
beers bottles, graffiti, the music players and empty plastic cups these
things all denotate artist, as well as the target audience.
The text and image integrate as theyre both
talking about the main artist Dizzee Rascal;
and you can tell this by the image on the left
and the subheading on the right.

There are no page numbers on this page, as you can tell it is the main article of the magazine as it connects with the main
article on the front cover.
