Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center was honored with an A grade in the Fall 2014 Hospital Safety
Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital
Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nations leading experts on patient safety and is
administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog. The frst and only hospital
safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety, the Score is free to the public and
designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when
facing a hospital stay.
We have had a stellar year for accomplishments related to quality and patient safety. These
accomplishments are not possible without the hard work and dedication of our employees, physicians
and volunteers each and every day, said Carlton Ulmer, president and chief executive offcer at Gulf
Coast Regional Medical Center.
Developed under the guidance of Leapfrogs Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses
28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D, or F score
representing a hospitals overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The Hospital
Safety Score is fully transparent, with a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining
grades available online.

ICARE Q3 Award Recipients Announced
DEPARTMENT OF THE QUARTER CATH LAB
The Cath Lab was recognized as the ICARE Department of the Third Quarter
for the wonderful care and compassion they have shown for our patients
and family members. One of the comments they received was from a fellow
healthcare provider who raved about the care their mother received from
the staff, which is a testimony to the level of care they provide each and every
day. Their dedication to ensuring that patient care is on the forefront in the
department is what earned them this ICARE recognition. Thank you Cath Lab
team for all you do!!
EMPLOYEE OF THE QUARTER
JANET KNOWLES, RN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT
Janet is a charge nurse in our Emergency Department. She recently took time
out of her daily responsibilities to assist a Baker Act patient who had been in
the Emergency Department for 36 hours. She arranged for a hospital bed to be
brought down to the ER so she would be more comfortable and personally took
her upstairs to shower and brush her teeth. The patient was very appreciative.
VOLUNTEER OF THE QUARTER CAROL POSTON
Carol displays compassion for our patients, visitors and fellow volunteers. She
can be counted on to assist wherever she is needed with a kind spirit. She is very
quiet as she goes about her mission to help others. Carol doesnt look for or
expect recognition, but takes every opportunity to give back to others.

What our Patients are Saying...
Below are several wonderful comments from ICARE cards and Facebook posts.
So grateful for Gulf Coast Regional Medical Centers partnership with Seawind Medical Clinic. After suffering an eyelid
laceration, Heidi and the staff at Seawind helped make our son all better (his exact words). The team there was awesome, quick
and our son approved.
Dr. Ajay Labroo took care of me in the emergency room. I was very impressed and I will not hesitate to use him as my doctor
in the future.
Benjamin and Gary (ER nurses) were very attentive, respectful and compassionate in all aspects toward the family and the
patient.
Jordan (2 South technician) is a breath of fresh air. His positive attitude and willingness to help is great!.
Kyla (2 South) is such a pleasant and caring nurse. She was prompt on returning all calls, as well as, dispensing medicine. She is
hard-working and compassionate.
MaryAnn (3 North) was very concerned and went above and beyond to meet my needs. She is the best!
I was so happy with the care I received on 3 North. I was a critical care nurse for 10 years in Kentucky so I have high standards
for nursing care. Every single person I was in contact with on the foor was extremely professional.
Daisy Dantzler (phlebotomist) provided excellent care during my blood draw. The phlebotomy chair was occupied so the
procedure had to be done without a chair. Its diffcult under the best of circumstances to draw blood from me, but Daisy was
able to do it so easily. She was so kind and very professional. Shes a huge asset to Gulf Coast!

A select group of male physicians and employees took part in the Pink Bra Fashion Show, an annual event to beneft Making Strides
Against Breast Cancer. The event raised nearly $800. Were thrilled to host this event every year and promote breast cancer
awareness month. Its so important to get a yearly mammogram as one in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer, said Kay
Hankins, oncology nurse navigator.
