*eneral
'he sling should "e (isuall inspected each time it is "eing used " the person 8ho handles it as 8ell as its
attachments. /urthermore7 a periodic 'esting shall "e per3ormed " a designated person7 at least annuall7
and shall include a record o3 the 'esting.
During their use7 slings are su"Bected to conditions that a33ect their sa3e 8or!ing characteristics. It is
necessar there3ore to ensure7 8hene(er possi"le that the sling is still sa3e 3or use.
'he Slings must "e proo3#tested " the manu3acturer to ensure 9ualit at the time o3 production .A certi3icate
(eri3ing rated capacit 8ill accompan each 8ire rope sling .'his certi3icate should "e a(aila"le 3or re(ie8
8hene(er needed.
'he sling should "e inspected 3or damage or deterioration "e3ore "eing issued 3or use7 and therea3ter "e
chec!ed 3or o"(ious de3ects7 at suita"le inter(als during ser(ice. Additionall7 routine thorough e0aminations
should "e carried out " a competent person .I3 at an time there is reason to dou"t the sa3e condition o3 the
sling 7 it should "e 8ithdra8n 3rom ser(ice and su"Bected to a thorough e0amination .
Aire )ope Slings /esting Procedures
#% T'oroug' e>amination
W A thorough e0amination is a (isual e0amination carried out " a competent person7 and 8here
necessar supplemented " other means7 such as non#destructi(e testing7 in order to detect damage
or deterioration 8hich might a33ect the 3itness 3or use o3 the sling.
W It is an essential 3eature o3 this thorough e0amination that results are documented.
A routine thorough e0amination should "e carried out at inter(als not e0ceeding 6 months and this
inter(al should "e less 8here deemed necessar in the light o3 ser(ice conditions or 8here re9uired "
statutor regulations.
'he 3ollo8ing in3ormation is to "e used as a guide 3or inspecting 8ire rope slings.
'esting 3re9uenc should "e "ased on sa3et 3actors7 propert damage7 and the cost o3 replacing
destroed or damaged goods and material dropped due to the use or misuse o3 improper or damaged
8ire rope and slings. Additionall7 slings should "e inspected at regular inter(als .'his inter(al should
"e determined " the user and is dependent upon the particular use o3 the sling.
A sling should "e inspected a3ter an unusual situation that ma ha(e damaged it7 such as o(erload7
accident7 or 3ire .It should not "e returned in ser(ice until continued sa3e operation has "een (eri3ied.
+ach sling should ha(e a serial num"er .I3 no num"er is a(aila"le7 a tag should "e attached at the time
o3 testing .'his num"er should "e listed on the testing report.
