NATIONAL BANK OF K ENYA SERENA HOTEL, NAIROBI TUESDAY 4TH
NOVEMBER 2014
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Bank of Kenya,
Mr. Munir Sheikh Ahmed,
Senior Officials from National Bank and Postal Corporation of
Kenya,
Distinguished guests,
Members of the Fourth Estate,
Ladies and Gentlemen.
I am pleased to join y o u today on this auspicious occasion of the launch of
Agency Banking partnership between National Bank of Kenya and the Postal Corporation
of Kenya.
I t h a n k the Board and Management of National Bank of Kenya for making
this possible. At t h e outset, I w a n t t o congratulate Managing
Director of NBK Mr. Munir Sheikh Ahmed for his commendable
stewardship at the National Bank of Kenya. I wish him a n d all staff at the
bank a bright future.
Ladies and Gentlemen: We are gathered here today to celebrate another
milestone in the deepening of Financial services in Kenya. The partnership
between National Bank of Kenya and PCK is not only an opportunity for NBK
to satisfy the needs of its customers but also an enhancement of efficient
formal financial services to the unbanked and the under banked.
With PCKs wide network and great infrastructure, the partnership will
enable NBK to expand on its network without spending on brick and mortar.
Thus, I wish to assure the Board, Management and Staff of National Bank of
Kenya that their decision to integrate and partner with PCK is indeed right for the bank
and the country.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Corporation is currently implementing an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP)
which is expected to be fully operation in February 2015. The system will automate end-toend business operations at a cost of USD3 million. This will a go a long way in improving
on our effectiveness and efficiency in all business processes as we serve you.

The Government of Kenya has also earmarked POSTA as the centre of Huduma Services
countrywide which shall benefit from our newly installed PostaPesa platform. Currently
they are on our Postapay platform. The Huduma Service is a one-stop-shop concept for all
Government public services for citizens. It is currently operational at General Post OfficeNairobi, City Square, Madaraka, Machakos, Kakamega, Kisumu, Kisii, Nakuru, Eldoret,
Mombasa, Embu, Nyeri and Kajiado Post Offices. The services will be rolled out to all
Counties before the end of the financial year 2014/15.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The capacity of Posta to provide Financial Services is not in doubt. The provision of
Payment Services to the under banked and un-banked is very deliberately included in our
Corporate Strategic Plan, 2013-2016.
The partnership being launched today will facilitate National Bank customers to make cash
deposits, cash withdrawals and account balance inquiries among other services at Posta
outlets, on the Post Pesa platform. So far close to 100 Post Offices countrywide have been
integrated and are now offering these crucial services. Such Post Offices include GPO
Nairobi, City Square, Machakos, Namanga, Kwale, Keroka and Busia among many other
areas. The services will be rolled out to Post Offices spread among all the 47 counties in
due course.
Lastly, Ladies and Gentlemen, as we enjoy the benefits of expanding
agency banking business, let
us not lose sight of the ever
Increasing
threats to the integrity of financial systems in general. These problems
are real and constant vigilance needs to be e x e r c i s e d . In this regard, the
PCK has put in place robust measures of mitigating on such integrity
issues.
In conclusion, PCK at all times remains at your disposal striving to continue providing
excellent support and customer service to you and your customers.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, management and staff of the Postal Corporation of
Kenya, I would like to reiterate that we look forward to a mutually beneficial relationship
that will improve our bottomlines and add value to our customers.
Congratulations once again.
Thank You and God bless you all.
