Description of Activities and Setting

I start by connecting today's lesson to something the kids have previously
learned, so it will trigger their schema and acknowledge their background
knowledge. This is the first day they will be learning about Grammar in the
form of Plural Nouns, I will ask the students to review what Singular Nouns
are and how to make them into Plural Nouns. I will briefly go over the
endings rules for Plural Nouns.
Students will understand Plural Nouns through multiple worksheets and
successfully completing the assessment.
This is when I tell the kids explicitly what we will be working on. I will say,
"Today we are going to be looking at Plural Nouns." To model specific
strategies I will have a copy of The Cozy Kitchen Worksheet. I will have a copy
of the worksheet for every student so they can follow along and
demonstrate. I will test out the "To, With and By" method instruction to
scaffold their learning. With the first, I read the example TO the class and
model by thinking aloud. I will be teaching this strategy to them. I will find
out the Noun on the worksheet and make it Plural and then record the data
on the board. With the second example, I do the strategy WITH them. I ask
them to read the example along with me and then to find the Noun and
make it Plural. Then we talk about the rules for specific endings on words.
They will write down their thoughts on a sheet of paper. With the third
example, I want the students to do it BY themselves. This will lead to the
Independent Practice.
The students will have a 5 minute Prep-Time to find a comfy spot in the
classroom and fulfill any last minute needs. Then they will have a set amount

of time of interrupted work to complete the worksheet. Today I will walk

around and give any students that seem to be struggling with their work. I
may take some groups aside to go back over topics that they did not
understand before.
This is where the students will get the chance to test out the strategy that I
have taught. They are instructed to complete the Plural Nouns Worksheet
and figure out how to convert them from Singular to Plural Nouns. Students
are to record their answers on the worksheet.

Correct answers to the Plural Nouns Worksheet

Scores 8 out of 10 on the Plural Nouns Assessment
If more than 25% of students do not meet the objective then class discussion
will follow.
After the end of the set amount of time, the students are reminded that their
job during the independent practice was to complete the Plural Nouns
Worksheet. Then I ask to regroup as a whole class at their desks. I will call on
a few students to answer some of the questions from the worksheet. Last
thing I will do is clarify that everyone has understood the lesson from today.

Targeted Students Modifications/Accommodations:
Targeted Students Modifications/Accommodations:
To modify this lesson I would pay closer attention to
the students who may be having trouble. By allowing
further time to complete the independent practice and
pairing them up with a trusted student to assist if they
are having difficulty. I would accommodate by
reassessing the students in my class and make sure
they have the requested accommodations prior to the
lesson beginning.
