Going APP Crazy !!!!

The clock on my phone read 3 a.m.. I paused my game of Angry Birds and looked
over at the pile of pending work on my desk, wondering why I had let myself get
so distracted. Then I looked back down at my new wonderful, awesome,
SMARTPHONE.. Oh yeah, thats why What else has the proliferation of
smart phones done besides make us all mobile-crazy? Its also driven us app crazy.
And its not just Facebook, Twitter or Angry Birds, either. Were turning to the
humungous galaxy of apps to help us run our businesses , our projects , our
household and what not.

But for once I wont categorise this association in the group of a

downward whirlwind rather it s more like a heavy stroke of wind
which sweeps you of your feet and lifts you to witness a complete new
world. While these apps are designed primarily for smartphones and
tablets, the open and customizable nature of the operating system and
the easy accessibility allows them to be used on most of the electronics
gadgets.Well and who is complaining ??? Providing us with answer to
almost every conceivable question of our daily lifeyeah they
got everything sorted. My favourite ones being QUICKBOOKS
MOBILE (Android, iPhone) and FRESHBOOKS-MINIBOOKS help
me create invoices, access study material and related data and manage
annotations in a much more subtle and yet entertaining manner.
But thats not it there is a cake for every soul here. Payment
processing apps like SQUARE or INTUITs GO PAYMENT make
sales easier, allowing business owners to accept payments on the go,
then there is the ICONOSYS TAX DEDUCTION TRACKER allowing
a business owner to document tax-deductible items in real time. TUNE
WIKI lets users share what theyre listening to with each other, or to use
Google Maps to find what users around the world are listening to.
TuneWiki also plays audio and video for songs while scrolling
synchronized lyrics as they play, QUICKPEDIA this is by far the best

Androidized Wikipedia application Ive seen. Navigating and reading

through the Wikipedia entries are simple thanks to Quickpedias clean
user interface, search suggestions, and GPS-informed searches for
adventurous information-seekersthe list is endless.
The magnum opus variety and the kind availability of these apps are
attributed to the open source nature of these Android apps . Open source
means that the skeletal code of the Android app is known to everyone
not just the Android app developers. There are forums that are open for
the public where they can find the main code for the Android platform.
Even the codes for other Android apps are available online. Being made
to be open to the public the restrictions posed on Android app is very
minimal. Therefore more developers are jump to induce more
individualistic modifications to the Android OS.
Hence I say its high time to actual get submerged in this crazy and
sucking world of android. But still promise to maintain the required
balance of life .till then Ill probably still be on my Android, with a
sling and a bird or checking the last Facebook update.

In modern cars most of the car is made of polymers. A list of objects which
are polymers in your car include:
Tyres, Electrical wires, car seats (if not leather), carpets, all things plastic
in the car (dash if not leather) and even in some cases the car itsself is
made of plastic. A lot of modern cars outer shell consists of plastic

components. Plastic is easy to mould and easy to replace so is commonly

found as your front or rear fender. easy way to
tell if it is metal or plastic is to tap it. you can usually hear a difference
between plastic and your metal components
Polymer manufacturers develop novel solutions for the auto industry
The future is plastic
21 April 2010 11:05 [Source: ICB]
Carmakers are turning to polymer manufacturers to develop breakthrough
solutions addressing the key drivers of reducing weight and cost
Innovative plastics and composites are making inroads in automotive
applications where metal has traditionally been used.
The trend to replace metal is opening up a myriad of opportunities for
polymer manufacturers, as it also allows designers to integrate
functionality that may not have been possible with metal versions.
Products are being developed for under-the-hood (UTH) applications that
can withstand a hot and chemically aggressive environment, as well as for
structural parts.
There are fenders with online paintability, as well as a new generation
polymers that have high heat and chemical resistance over longer periods
of time. US chemical giant DuPont has a new family of polyamide grades
for UTH applications.
France's Rhodia has a range of polyamides with long-term barrier
resistance and is also developing a breakthrough thermoplastic-based
material that it expects to present at Germany's K trade fair in October.

Polycarbonate (PC) use in front windshields remains a development focus.

SABIC Innovative Plastics of the US has a plasma coating for PC that
improves scratch resistance and helps to address industry concerns
regarding resistance to wiper abrasion.
Stephen Shuler, chief technology officer of SABIC Innovative Plastics'
wholly owned subsidiary Exatec says that it has expanded its team in
Bangalore, India, to study how abrasion occurs.
Shuler says PC has big advantages in terms of styling and aerodynamic
qualities, as well as saving weight. "There is a big opportunity in back
lights, side windows, and roofs, which have seen a lot of activity."
Green materials are another focus. DuPont says that several automotive
original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) aim to incorporate biopolymers
and, in some cases, specific eco-friendly car lines will be developed. It
predicts that biopolymers' share in automotive will steadily rise, but will
still remain low in the short term, compared with petroleum-based
polymers.
SABIC Innovative Plastics has introduced polybutylene terephthalate
(PBT) iQ grades derived from 85% post-consumer polyethylene
terephthalate (PET) through a novel technology that upcycles solid waste.
Venkatakrish Umamaheswaran, director of marketing, engineering and
technology, automotive, says this is very popular as it allows carmakers to
reduce their carbon footprint.
Rhodia has developed two ranges, based on bio-sourced and recycled
materials. Last year, it launched a polyamide based on polyamide 610,
partially made from castor oil. Innovation marketing manager Antoine

Guiu says Technyl eXten is a high-performing polyamide with similar

characteristics to polyamide 12 and is positioned for applications where
polyamide is already well installed but where car companies are seeking
greener options. It has also relaunched its recycled plastic, Technyl R.
While no one can say whether the all-plastic car will become a reality,
Germany's BASF estimates that 25% of the weight of a combustionengine car could consist of plastics in 10 years, compared with 14-18% in
the average European car now
Petrochemical applications in the Automobile industry are vast. The
modern automobile industry is highly dependent on the petrochemical
products for the manufacturing of the automobiles. The modern day
automobiles like cars, buses and trucks, etc all contain a good amount of
parts manufactured from petrochemical intermediaries.
The properties like flexibility in designing, light weight, durability has
popularized the use of these petrochemical composites in automobiles.
Parts of the body, tires, interiors, dashboard, etc is made out of
petrochemical intermediates. The Automobile Industry is totally
transformed with the increasing usage of the petrochemical based
composite materials.
The uses of petrochemical composites in Automobile Industry:

Polymers are used for making body parts, interiors, dashboards,

speedometer dials, steering wheels, lock handles, armrests, etc

Polyurethane Foam(PUF) is used as an insulation

High Density Polyethylene(HDP) is used for making the

impregnable fuel tanks to prevent fires

Synthetic Rubber is used for the tires for better grip on roads. It is
also used as the window lining

Phenolic Resins are used as a friction material in brakes and

clutches

Styrenic plastics are used for seats to withstand accidents

Ethylene glycol is used as an anti-freeze for automobiles

Lubricating oil made from heavy hydrocarbons for various moving

parts of the automobile

Paints for the body

Various small but important parts made of polymers, synthetic

rubber, etc.

Transparent fiber glass windows which would not shatter in case of

an impact unlike the glass counterparts

The advantages of using petrochemical intermediaries in Automobile

Industry:

Reduction in weight, so there is less fuel consumption which in turn

helps in pollution control

The ease in processing helps in cutting down assembling time

Safety of the automobile is enhanced with the use of special kind of

materials

Designing feasibility and experimentation with different designs. It

can be transformed into any kind of shape

Reduction in assembling time, which in turn helps in cutting down

costs

Plastic has benefited our society in a number of ways. In fact,

plastic has helped aeronautics technology take giant steps forward
over the past 50 years, including advancements in satellites,
shuttles, aircraft, and missiles. As a result, civilian air travel has
improved, as well as military air power and space exploration. In
addition, the building and construction, electronics, packaging, and
transportation industries have all benefited greatly from plastic.
Plastic in Aeronautics
Plastics were first introduced to the world of aerospace during
World War II, mostly because other materials were limited. During
the war, plastic slowly started to be used as a substitute for rubber
in items such as fliers' boots and fuel-tank linings. Eventually, it
became the preferred material for these applications. Plastic was
then used with airborne radar systems and viewed as a significant
advancement in this technology because it allowed waves to pass
through with minimal loss.
The fact that plastic was able to withstand heat also lead to its
being recognized as an important material in aerospace technology.
Today, plastics are used in the solid fuel boosters form rockets and
in the ablative shields for reentry of space shuttles.
Plastic materials are also used in the making of helicopters because
they are rigid and durable, yet flexible enough to withstand the
vibrations made by helicopters. The fact that plastic is both
lightweight and strong also has its advantages in the field of
aerospace because the weight of the aircraft can be reduced by using
plastic. This results in improved aerodynamics, which leads to

improved fuel efficiency and performance. In fact, reducing the

weight of a jetliner by just one pound saves $1,000 in fuel during
the liner's lifetime.
Plastics in the Building and Construction Industry
Plastics play a significant role in the building and construction
industry as well. In fact, the industry is the second largest consumer
of plastic, followed only by the packaging industry. In the
construction industry, plastics are used for items such as pipes and
valves. They are also used for decorative elements and heavy-duty
uses because they are so easy to handle, are durable, and are
attractive. Some decorative places plastics are commonly found
include bathroom units, plumbing fixtures, flooring, siding, panels,
insulation, windows, doors, gratings, glazing, and railings.
Within piping and valves, plastics are highly used because of their
superior resistance to corrosion. In fact, they can be used for
everything from freshwater to saltwater, from crude oil to
laboratory waste. In addition, they are much lighter than other
materials and easier to install. They are also less expensive.
Plastics and the Use of Electronics
Plastics are used with electronic devices for a wide number of
purposes. Due to the thermal and insulating properties of plastic, it
is ideal for use in house wiring. In fact, nearly all modern homes use
plastic electrical connectors, switches, and receptacles.
Small appliances also take advantage of plastic. Plastic is durable,
yet lightweight and attractive. Therefore, it is great for making
small appliances such as can openers, food processors, microwave
ovens, mixers, coffee makers, shavers, irons, and hair dryers. Even
refrigerators use a special plastic foam for insulation purposes,
while the interior is made from plastic that is durable and easy to
clean. Without plastic, these products would last about half as long
and would use 25-30% more energy.

Computers as we know them today would probably not exist

without plastic. Plastic made smaller computers possible by being
able to house all of the electronics necessary within a dust free and
well-insulated environment. Components such as circuit boards and
computer chips are able to be miniaturized without losing their
abilities - or while also improving their performance - thanks to the
use of plastic.
Of course, plastic has also made it possible to introduce electronics
to children at younger ages. Even newborns can enjoy electronic toys
to stimulate and entertain them as they grow. Thanks to plastic,
these toys can be made to be safe and durable.
Plastics and Packaging
Plastic is so versatile, it can be used for a variety of packaging
purposes. If the product needs to be well protected, the plastic can
be rigid and tough. If, on the other hand, the packaging needs to be
convenient to carry, the plastic can be flexible. Or, a combination of
the two can be achieved. Furthermore, the packaging can be
designed into any shape or size desired and it can be clear or any
color imaginable.
Plastic packaging helps keep people, the earth, and animals healthy
in a number of ways. For example, plastic packaging is used by
medical facilities to dispose of needles and other items that may be
contaminated. Similarly, fragile medical devices are often shipped in
plastic containers because they can be precisely designed to prevent
them from being damaged during shipping. Intravenous bags are
also made with special see-through plastic to help the medical staff
monitor the flow and intake of important nutrients and medicines.
Plastic is also used to store a variety of goods commonly found in
the home. By creating shatterproof bottles with plastic, family
members are protected from harm if the product should accidentally
fall. Leak proof and child-resistant packaging can also be created
with plastic.

Use of Plastic in Transportation

Plastic is a popular choice when making modes of transportation
because it is tough, resistant to corrosion, durable, lightweight, and
easy to color. For these reasons, plastic is found in the fenders,
bumpers, trunk lids, housings for headlights and sideveiw mirrors,
grilles, hoods, doors, and wheel covers.
Through the use of plastic, the average passenger car has lost 145
pounds since 1988. The lighter weight translates to better fuel
efficiency and has saved approximately 21 million barrels of oil.
Trains and busses also take advantage of plastic. Modern designs
use plastic in the window and door frames and in the seating.
Subway cars use plastic for the seats, the seat covers, in making the
carpeting, in creating the handles, in the interior panels, and even in
the polycarbonate windows.
Of course, other means of transportation, such as bicycles, roller
skates, kayaks, canoes, skateboards, snowboards, surfboards,
motorcycles, and even some athletic shoes take full advantage of
plastic in their creation
